After finishing 8th in the 1st Sprint race at Oulton Park. Velmier Jankovic was very apologetic after the race to Tayna Carter for an early race incident. - Fochesato 0 for 3 in Super Stock Series After Crashing @ Oulton Park
19 March 2016
A crash in Sprint 2 at Oulton Park is the latest of the problems that Vincenzo Fochesato has experienced in what has been a slow start to his second season of competition in the Dash Cup Pirelli Super Stocks Series.
After starting the race from the 10th position, Fochesato was spun into the grass off of Shell Corner when Frank Azure and Sakura Motoko made contact, causing Azure to hit car #75 in the right-rear. Fochesato immediately got back underway, and managed not only to catch back up to the rest of the field, but to work his way into a position to qualify for the Feature. He was battling for the 20th and final transfer spot with Danny Lee Rayma and Daxter Hamlett when all three of them collided before crashing into the tire barriers to the left of the track, again in Shell Corner.
This is the third race weekend in 2016, and Fochesato has now crashed three times, eliminating himself from the race in two of those instances (this does not include the non-points All-Star Race, where he also was involved in a crash that forced him out of the running). With the new Sprints/Feature format that has been implemented in the Super Stocks Series this year, his poor results in the Sprints have been compounded by the fact that a DNF in the Sprints - essentially - means a DNQ for the Feature.
The Italian seemed rather content, however, during his post-race interview.
"It's been a difficult start to the year and there's no way around that. But it is only March and it would be silly to think that we can't get good finishes or win races later in the year or even next week! Well, Mallory Park is in two weeks, actually. Wait, is it three?" He paused as he counted to himself under his breath. "Sorry, that's not important."
Fochesato would add that he has no doubts in the ability of his team despite the results thus far.
"I'm not worried in the slightest about whether or not we'll be able to finish well or anything; every time that I've crashed this year it's been from the top 20. We just need to be patient and when luck finally comes our way, we'll be able to prove what we've been capable of this whole time."
Both of Fochesato's FIAM Engineering teammates, Franco Giovanardi and Mireille Allain, will both be starting tomorrow's 24-lap Feature from Oulton Park.

- Spoiler:
- Rosinski Takes TDR to the Top of the Podium, First Time in 2016
Carla Rosinski showed why she is a former Dash Cup champion, taking advantage of the misfortunes of Hannah Percy & Barney Ward to secure victory in sprint #1 at Oulton Park. Her teammate, Amanda Torres, will join her in tomorrow's feature as she finished a credible 10th.
"This is what I wanted to see from the girls today. Now we have to parlay it into good runs tomorrow and put together a good weekend. First two races, we had one or the other...as in good sprints and bad features, or barely squeak into the feature and do well from there. Maybe this weekend's the one where we put it all together" Tom Delgado said after the first sprint.
