IndyCar Firestone 600K at Texas
After the doubleheader in Detroit, which was won by Sebastian Bourdais in Race 1 and Will Power in Race 2, the IndyCar Series heads down South for the 3rd oval race of the season at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Scott Dixon won for the 2nd time ever at the Texas track, with the racing there recently gone to a snoozefest the past few years. So let's hope for a good show.
The race is this Saturday 8 pm et on NBCSN.

Can we just talk about how entertaining it's been to watch the broadcast team bullshitting the whole time?

I cannot believe that I watched all three hours of that rain delay broadcast.
Good grief, do they ever become stupid when they're bored!

Will be run on CNBC due to coverage of the Orlando terror attack moving the Canadian GP to NBCSN.

Oh God. Daly and Newgarden just crashed massively. Newgarden upside down and into the wall head first. Hope both are ok.

That was a terrifying crash, I'm happy to see they are both out, but I'm concerned for Josef

Pretty terrifying crash in there. I hope Newgarden is doing alright. That wave helped from him was a good sign. Conor Daly earned even more respect from me taking the blame there.

Glad Josef's okay, but that's just more evidence for the need to look into closed cockpits. Although the fact that they still run 1.5 mile ovals was a bigger issue in this case.
It made more sense at that point to run more yellow laps than to delay the race even more. Although with the rain coming back it didn't matter.PRAWBLEMS wrote:Can someone explain why Indycar didn't throw a red flag?

1.5 milers have always been an Indycar staple...the accident was crappy time and crappy placement, I'm sorry to say but anyone going "ban cookie cutters" is really, really kneejerkish.NeverNeutral wrote:Although the fact that they still run 1.5 mile ovals was a bigger issue in this case.

It's not so much the 1.5 mile ovals, my issue is the BANKED ovals that are meant to make stock cars go fast... Then again, how the accident happened, that could have happened at Indy too. Just a racing accident with the added bonus of showing how far safety has come along

Josef Newgarden has suffered fractures in both his right collarbone and his right hand. Thankfully, he otherwise appears to be all right.

I know that the roll hoops on these cars work extremely well, but watching Newgarden's overturned car slide into the wall was horrifying. Thank goodness that Daly is completely unharmed, and it's fortunate that Josef's injuries are minimal. It's scary to think of how badly that he could have been harmed, and at the same time it's amazing to realize how well that all of the advancements that have been made in the safety of the cars and the barriers have worked. Hopefully we won't see anything of this severity when the series returns in August.

These cars are built strong, glad to see Daly walk away and Newgarden with largely minimal injury.
I assume the delay to August is to allow the likes of Aleshin and Bourdais to arrive on time for Le Mans tech inspection?

Saw the Newgarden-Daly crash. I'm so glad Newgarden and Daly are okay 'cause that wasn't pretty by any means.
Ashamed the race had to be moved to a later date, but couldn't they just rerun the whole 248 laps? IDK.

Gutted for Hinch, but I can't complain because that was a hell of a finish! Never thought I'd see something like that at Texas of all places.

Re: IndyCar Firestone 600K at Texas
Well, Hell has indeed frozen over. Who would've thought that we'd see a god-tier race at Texas Motor Speedway?
Even the first 71 laps were pretty entertaining, even though 30 of those laps were under yellow after that frightening crash with Conor Daly and Josef Newgarden. And then we had a long ass green flag run that had lots of good side-by-side racing, which pleasantly surprised the hell out of me considering how shitty the racing at TMS has been.
Of course, the douchebag move of the race obviously goes to Ed Carpenter for that chop block on Scott Dixon. I'll be the first to admit that I don't like Dixon, but what Carpenter did was straight up bullshit, and the fact that he wasn't penalized for it pisses me off even more. Of course, in the end, karma came back to bite him in the ass when he wrecked off of turn 4.
After three straight cautions where we saw just 1 to 2 laps of racing, we finally got the final restart inside of ten to go, and HO-LEE SHEE-IT! That was some of the best racing I've seen all year. How the hell do these guys go four wide... TWICE... and somehow NOT WRECK? And that side-by-side battle between Hincecliffe and TK was amazing, and on the white flag, I honestly though Hincy had it, but he left the bottom wide open for Graham Rahal to come up and take advantage of it. And then he started celebrating... even though Hincecliffe came back on him and almost beat him to the line. The final margin of victory: 0.008 seconds, the length of the front wing. Unreal.
Gutted for James Hincecliffe, because he led all those laps and loses it like that, but that was one helluva finish to a pretty damn good race. There was a good chunk of it when Hincy had an eight second lead and Texas fell right back into what it was known for, but thankfully it was just a portion of the race instead of the whole damn thing.
STAR OF THE RACE: James Hincecliffe. A stellar performance that unfortunately came up short.
REJECT OF THE RACE: Ed Carpenter. He should just retire.
FINAL RATING: This is, without a doubt, the highest rating I've ever given a TMS race, period. The Firestone 600 gets a 9/10. Seriously. This was, in my opinion, the best race I've ever seen at Texas Motor Speedway.
Next up, we go to Watkins Glen. Oh, buddah!

Re: IndyCar Firestone 600K at Texas
As a fan of Graham Rahal, my opinion on this race is most certainly biased.
That being said, that was an AMAZING race!!!
In seriousness, I feel really bad for James Hinchcliffe. He proved without a doubt that he had the fastest car all night, although at the same time I'm really happy for the Rahal family. Kudos to both Firestone and IndyCar for finding a formula to put on the show that we witnessed. The last eight laps and especially the finish were absolutely thrilling!!!

Best Texas race in anything in a long time, heck you can add the start and it wouldn't bring it down, Great stuff...helluva finish. As much as i wanted Hinchcliffe to win it, i'm fine with Graham.
Damn that was fun!

Pointless fact of the day: Castroneves' 5th-place finish is the best result he's had in the final 4 races of the season since Fontana in 2012, when he also finished 5th. You have to go back to Sonoma 2011 to get a better result, which was a 2nd-place finish.
