"2015 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers are ineligible to compete in Championship race"

Also, there will be heat races at Bristol, Indianapolis, Richmond and Dover for the Xfinity Series.

The Dash for Cash bonus is kind of silly and arbitrary.

Probably because there won't be enough winners to fill all of the chase spots.

Thus confirming that NASCAR keeps the chase around for reasons other than "it would be a PR disaster to get rid of it". I'm kind of surprised no one here's upset...

It was rumoured to happen last year, and also, it was coming either way. There's no way to be surprised with that.

If Erik Jones bombs the champion is gonna have an average finish of like 8th.

Two dumb ideas in one day... No

I thought my faith in NASCAR couldn't go any lower. Guess I was wrong.

NASCAR survived odd/even pitting and "no tires and fuel on the same pit stop". It'll survive this.

Odd/Even at least had a rhyme and reason to it, after one of Bill Elliott's crew members got made into roadkill, until a solution was found. The Chase is just a sad gimmick, plain and simple.

At best, this will make the first half of the season slightly more annoying for me to watch, as there will be some references during the broadcasts to the importance of "making the chase."

At worst, this will ruin the spectacle of a championship battle that the Cup Series was rid of twelve years ago. Not that every title fight before 2004 was close or exciting, and I wouldn't have opposed changes to the points system, but the chase in every form thus far has simply enforced artificial competitiveness, and that's not even considering all the "drama" on and off-track that it indirectly creates.

I honestly don't know what motivates Brian France more to make changes like these: directly forcing the points battles to be closer with a "playoffs" format, or indirectly attracting the fanbase of the NFL in doing so. I understand that it's important to try to appeal to some new fans. However, restructuring the entire sport to people who have no interest whatsoever in racing doesn't make any sense. What football/baseball/basketball (etc.) fan would ever respond to the question of why they don't watch NASCAR racing with, "Because they don't have a playoff system"?

I don't see myself being able to turn away from the Truck Series. I find the races to be too interesting, as I've mentioned multiple times in the past. At the same time, however, I fear that the second half of the season is going to be a lot more difficult to enjoy. That's just me, personally, though, and I am hopeful that the individual races will still be just as entertaining as they've ever been.

I admit that I am probably more upset about this than I should be, but I wanted to explain my opinions and hope that I have done so.

Of course not.  Remember when Homestead ended late due to a rain delay and didn't switch networks and NFL fans threw a MASSIVE shitfit when they couldn't watch Football Night in America and not the ACTUAL game.
