"Hey our championship deciding system has looked like crap lately? We need to something different with it!"
"Hey i know how bout we put it in the one series most fans like"
"Good idea, we'll consider it."

All seriousness this might kill the truck series, it seems like a move to get more fast trucks in the field beyond 4th but it will backfire spectacularly, don't fix a point system that isn't broke in any way shape or form.

Hasn't this been in the rumor mill for years now?

I'll believe it when I see it.

Just in case anyone was wondering what the points would look like with the eight driver, seven race system.

I honestly think the first point of that may have won me over with the XFINITY chase.

Another thing to consider is what happens when the sports younger drivers decide what's worth is for a title

Trucks might have no cup drivers in it anyway next year. Kez is gone, Kyle is gone, I think Austin Dillon is the only one left.

Then again maybe a lower-tier chase is why the exodus is happening.

NASCAR: Where we try to fix what isn't broken (the idea of a Chase to start with.)

I believe taking out the Cup drivers is a great idea, because it may level the competition up, or at least give opportunities to drivers that deserve them.

Re: Uhhhh.....

Post by SpeedDemon37 on Tue Nov 10, 2015 11:34 pm

I personally despise the general idea of "playoffs" in auto racing and almost every aspect of it (especially NASCAR's new elimination format). I think that the Truck Series produces exciting races more often than either of the other two national tours (although it would be nice if the entry lists were a little larger), and as it stands we have three drivers who are fighting for the title and have been doing so for most of the season. Cheapening the points system in this series would tremendously disappoint me as a fan.

If I were allowed to modify the entire points system in any way, all that I would do is give the winner 52 points instead of 46 (giving the winner 10 more points than the runner-up finisher). I'd also remove the bonus for leading a lap and award one point to the pole sitter, but that's a little finicky. My main point is that there is nothing wrong with the current points system, similarly to what others have said in the above posts.

If a driver wins the title by a landslide, then he or she probably earned it. It's exciting and special when championships come down to the wire, but situations like that lose their excitement when they lose their authenticity (by being forced with points resets). Even if the championship is decided in advance, the fans still have individual races to watch, which should still be as exciting as they are any other week.

Personally I say just give a limited amount of races a driver can run a whole year, like 45 or something.

The only thing I'm down with is no Cup drivers in the Xfinity Series. Other than that, the rest is crap.

Worry about the racing action. I've said it before, if you have good racing action, a blowout championship will be looked past, then when you get a close points battle, it's that much more special.

Bit late on this but for you guys that so badly want cup drivers out of the series, you unfortunately are missing one detail: The series will struggle. Why? Because Cup drivers aways bring something a talented young driver doesn't always necessarily have: Money. Lets just be honest here: Cup drivers are a far bigger draw to sponsors then some talented young fellow from the Snowball derby. The only reason Daniel Suarez has a ride is because he's with a Cup team. The only reason most of us know who Ryan Blaney is, who Chase Elliot is or who Ty Dillon is are because of their families and their connection to the Cup series. The only reason we know Tyler Riddick or Erik Jones is because of owner/drivers from, you guessed it...Cup. Its why Z-line Designs ditched Kevin Conway for Kyle Busch, why Dollar General ditched Turner Scott Motorsports for JGR. You take away the Cup drivers from either series and you can kiss them bye bye.

Also, the development series angle is nothing but PR from NASCAR. They only reason they had that going this year is because the drivers featured in that commercial had been talked about so much by fans but notice all of them (Full time) have one thing in common: a Connection to Cup. Where was all this for Landon Casill, Matt Dibenedetto, Cole Whitt, Alex Kennedy, Brandon Jones, or Justin Allgaier? Like I said, the whole "Young Stars" angle NASCAR played up is them basically highjacking a topic among fans and turning into another sales pitch. Frankly, getting rid of the series biggest money flow just for the sake of only having the same 3 or 4 regulars win it isn't the solution. Once the economy tanked, thats the direction the series have gone and its not stopping.

And on the flip side, how the hell were you going to develop a driver when the good rides were mostly taken by Cup guys. Back in the 90's was one thing, since it was, when Cup and Busch shared a weekend, no more than a handful of Cup guys at most racing that weekend. The Randy LaJoies and David Greens and Johnny Bensons of the Busch series could still get solid rides to say "Hey! We deserve a shot!". In the past 10 years? Forget it!!!

The series will learn to adjust.

Blame the sponsors. Perfect example: Burney Lamar. Was scheduled for a good chunk of the season with KHI in the 77 in 2006, only to then suddenly be replaced by Harvick and Bobby Labonte because Dollar General. Then in 2009, Burney Lamar was with Braun Racing (again, scheduled to share the car with Reed Sorenson and sponsor Dollar General) and what happened? Burney only makes two starts before again getting shafted. As far as I can tell, Sponsors seem to be allergic to any driver that isn't from Cup. Blame them for the reason we don't have the Todd Kluevers, the Brad Colemans, Kevin Conways (did we really want him?) or the Erik Darnells. Hell, Almarola was lucky he even got a second chance after JGR shafted him for Denny Hamlin.

PYLrulz wrote:The series will learn to adjust.

Thing is, the sponsors won't. Sponsors put marketability over everything else (including talent), otherwise Danica Patrick shouldn't be here.

I'll still hold to what I said. The series will learn to adjust, and if not, then it's on NASCAR for allowing Cup guys to invade that series to a point where there was no turning back.
