Nascar at Dover

Post by conrail1990 on Thu Oct 01, 2015 5:09 pm

This is going to be a iffy weekend. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are looking to be washouts and Monday and Tuesday could be washouts depending on the hurricanes path.

I'll be there for the weekend, but I think that was money wasted at this point.

I got offered free tickets for Saturday but looking at the forecast they are not going to be used.

This makes me glad I went to the spring race instead of this one (despite baking in 90 degree heat)

The Xfinity race today will be run with no practice.

This can't possibly end well... can it?

It will end as well as a facewall. This race will be fun, or just freaking pathetic.

Things you never thought you'd ever hear in NASCAR: John Wes Townley winning a NASCAR race.

Granted, he's been running in the top 3 the entire race tonight and led early in the race, but wow, that really just happened.

I guess i'll share this in reaction to that.

Fun Truck race....HOLY HELL TOWNLEY DID IT, Glad to see him get the victory. The even greater thing about it was Crafton trying to get a debris caution to not lose to Townley. Laughing

Hope Theriault comes out fine, that was a disgusting shot to the wall.

Maybe it's just me, but outside of Johnson having trouble, this race has been snooze-inducing. Sleep

Of course, Harvick leading almost every lap to this point hasn't helped.

NASCAR is probably jumping for joy because they wanted Harvick to win that SO bad.

That's why I can't hate on Jimmie anymore, yeah I used to hate him for winning to much, and that was the only reason, until I grew up and appreciated his talent.

You gotta admit, Johnson was a class act in that interview.

Well, everyone's racing hard, but unlike last year, it's a lot cleaner, so when it's hard but clean, there's no need for hard feelings.

My review of the AAA 400 @ Dover:

Total suckfest. Of course, considering the history of Dover the last several years, I can't say I'm surprised at this point. It's also made worse by the fact that Harvick led 355 of the races 400 laps. That's 88% of the total laps in the race, and nobody could even challenge him, even when he took just two tires, and as a result, despite two craptastic finishes in the first two races of the Chase, he's still a contender for this championship. F**king ridiculous.

Only two things of note made me happy from this race. One: Johnson had rear-end trouble and was knocked from contention for a seventh title. Kind of surprised that it happened in the first round, though. I'll agree with Booyaka, though. Even though I don't like the guy, he was a class act in that interview, so I'll give him credit for that.

Two: One thing I will disagree with Cooper on is the fact that were it not for the banzai pass by Jr. to get around both Kenseth AND McMurray in turns three and four on the last restart, it would probably be McMurray in the next round instead of Jr., considering how both cars were pretty evenly matched. Speaking of Jr. and McMurray...

Lucstar88 wrote:

Respect. Earned, not given.

My respect for McMurray has gone up a few levels. He put his heart and soul into this race, and it sucks that a fourth place finish isn't enough for him to move on. Of course, if Harvick hadn't won, McMurray would be moving onto the next round instead. Shows how shitty this format really is.

My final rating for the AAA 400 @ Dover:

This race was just plain bad. The Chase tension made things a little interesting at the end, but the winner was never really in doubt, and there was hardly any good racing for position throughout the entire race. This race gets a 2.5/10. Yet another shitastic race in this Chase and this season. I'm honestly ready for it to end, because the entertainment value is just not there at all.

The next race is at Charlotte to begin the second round of the Chase. (sigh) Once again, my expectations are pretty tame, but we'll see. The 600 was surprisingly decent this year, so maybe this race will have something. Maybe...

Disappointed that McMurray and Almirola didn't make it, but they also had a good run and that makes up for it.

All that I care about is that Truex is still in.

At least Harvick made it though, he's been the best all year, and doesn't deserve to get screwed over by this stupid chase system.

That race sucked big time.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a Johnson fan, but I really appreciate his classy interview. Made me gain some respect points for that. It's unfortunate that he won't move on to the Chase.

Harvick won. That probably made NASCAR happy.

And props for Junior and J-Mac for showing some class after the race. I'm turning more and more into a Jamie McMurray fan every race because he gives his all every lap like he did today. Ashamed he won't move as well. Shows you how clueless NASCAR is with this Chase system.

Oh well. Next week is Charlotte as the 2nd round begins.

I may be a little late on this one, but the Truck race was pretty competitive; it's a shame that it came down to fuel mileage. Townley had a top five run going all night and would have finished in 4th if fuel hadn't been a factor, so he would have had a fantastic race, anyway.

I'm really glad that Therriault's injuries weren't worse than they were; that was a nasty crash. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who's been questioning the lack of safter barriers on exposed walls long before Busch's crash at Daytona this year. It baffles me, honestly, how there aren't soft walls on the outside wall on corner exit.
