The 2015 Baseball Thread
It's the final stretch of the 2015 Regular Season, and going into the weekend's games, this is what we know...
- Canada is almost certain to be represented, as the Toronto Blue Jays have a firm grip on the American League Eastern Division. The AL East will have a second representative though, as the New York Yankees look very good for one of the two wildcard spots. Meanwhile, despite being under .500 by one game, the Baltimore Orioles are still alive, but they are 3.5 games back.
- Kansas City Royals won the American League Central division. They could have some company in the playoffs though, as the Minnesota Twins are still very much alive in the race for the second wildcard spot. Don't count out the Cleveland Indians though. They're still alive at 76-76, three games behind.
- For most of the season, the Houston Astros had a deathgrip on the American League Western Division. However, they have squandered it with a poor performance in the month of September, allowing for the Texas Rangers to come in and seize the division. Houston is left to try and hang onto the second wildcard, but it's a very precarious grip as they have the Twins, and another of their division-mates, the Los Angeles Angels, also on their tails.
- With one more win or one more Washington Nationals loss, the New York Mets will clinch the National League East. Not a lot was expected from the Mets, and there was a certain non-believing Fatman who predicted them to finish last. However, with the acquisitions of Yoenis Cespedes, Juan Uribe, and Kelly Johnson, as well as the return of David Wright, the Mets look like a real threat if they can solve the NL Central, assuming they get to the NLCS.
- The National League Central will have three playoff representatives, as the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Chicago Cubs have already clinched playoff spots. Pittsburgh will most likely play Chicago in the National League Wildcard game, with the winner facing the Cardinals in the Division Series.
- Los Angeles Dodgers have all but clinched the National League's Western Division. They will face the Mets in the NLDS. Home field for that series is still a matter of some conjecture, with the Dodgers clinging to a half-game lead in that race.
Wildcard Round (1 game)
AL Wildcard - Astros 3, Yankees 0
NL Wildcard - Cubs 4, Pirates 0
Division Series (Best of 5)
AL - Royals 3, Astros 2
AL - Blue Jays 3, Rangers 2
NL - Cubs 3, Cardinals 1
NL - Mets 3, Dodgers 2
League Championship Series (Best of 7)
AL - Royals @ Blue Jays
NL - Cubs @ Mets
World Series (Best of 7)
CHC/NYM @ KC/TOR
(All blanks will be filled in as they become available)

Well that didn't fucking last. The Houston Astros shut out the Yankees 3-0 in the AL Wild Card game and will play their first DS since 2005. The fact that the Yankees made the playoffs at all, considering I predicted they'd be shit this season, is a accomplishment. Although we did have a 7 game lead in the division at the end of July. THANKS BLUE JAYS!!!!

I wasn't expecting them to make it into the playoffs myself. I knew they had a very slim chance to make it in the World Series, but they could've at least tried to hit the damn ball.

Cubs beat the Cardinals last night, and are going to the NLCS. I think they're going to break that curse.

You know what else is crazy? If the Cubs win the World Series...
Back to the Future II predicted it almost 30 years in advance. That would be insane.

This might be the best baseball game I've watched in 10 years. Legit.

With a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, the New York Mets advance to the NLCS to face the Chicago Cubs.
