Godspeed Justin Wilson

Post by Racerfan275 on Mon Aug 24, 2015 9:09 pm

Wasn't sure if I should post this in the race thread or start a new one so I did this. As of around 8:05 Central Time Justin Wilson was announced dead. I'll gladly say I enjoyed watching Justin race, and I'm glad that he was an advocate for safety during his time in the sport. Hopefully, Indycar can take this appropriately and make changes so that we never have to experience this again.

R.I.P. Justin Wilson

Nooooooo....

And I was finally feeling cautiously optimistic when I heard he had survived the night.

This past season has just sucked so hard...

Really shocking news, a top man taken away whilst doing what he loves. May he rest in peace. I hope something can be learnt from the accident to prevent further incidents, but I don't think closed-canopies are the way forward personally.

Wow, this one really hits me hard. I'm still trying to put the idea in my head that he's gone. He was such a good guy and fantastic driver. I had the chance to meet him a few years ago. Super fire fly, talked to my buddy and I for a good 3 minutes and was super classy and happy to talk to fans of his and the sport. No matter how crappy car you would give the guy, he'd still be extremely competitive and would some way to get a good finish out of it. I'm going to pay my respects tomorrow and leave a note by the gate of IMS thanking him for all of the fun I had watching him with my family and for how great of an ambassador he was for Indycar. Godspeed Justin Wilson. I will never forget you. Crying or Very sad

I first saw Justin Wilson in the 2003 U.S. Grand Prix, and now he's no longer with us. A fine racing talent taken from us way too soon.

R.I.P. Justin. You will be missed.

Champ Car was a series i caught every so often since about 1999 watching just about 3-4 races a year and as the Open Wheel split got later it become harder to find, Although in 2005 i made a promise to myself to watch as many different racing series as i could since my affinity Nascar being the #1 was coming to an end around this time period...Luckily this around the time Champ Car was on television on an assortment on big channels (Speed, NBC, CBS) and was able to find myself catching a good portion of the schedule, in a time where Sebastian Bourdias was the absolute king of Champ Car and winning everything in sight (earning hate from me cause the ole he wins too much thing)a driver i ended up latching onto was one of Bourdias's closest challengers in the series at the time in Justin Wilson, He a was lightning quick Brit who would now and again steal a win from Sir Bourdias and was a very likable personality off the track which endeared me to him more...In the dying light of Champ Car he was one of sports top drivers who maybe could've called himself champion in the series.

After the two series were brought back together after a 12 year tear, Wilson kind of found himself lost in the shuffle running for teams who were either behind because they just came into the series Post-Champ Car (Newman-Haas) or a team who has just been one of those teams that had never really been in the running for wins (Dale Coyne) but despite that he was able to put those teams on his back and run up front with a car that had no reason to be up there at all usually, even winning in said cars.

The popular rumor that was being thrown around this year was that Wilson was finally gonna get the major backing that fans of him had clamored for, Wilson was rumored to be in position for a full-time seat at Andretti (I know Andretti was pretty poor in the first half but they've brought it back in the second half) and finally potentially having the backing that could win him potentially championships. Unfortunately we won't get to see what happens with that chance.

Wilson was a fantastic driver and a guy who's prime we may have been ready to see unfold before our eyes within the next few years.

RIP Justin Wilson. Indycar's Gentle Giant may have entered slumber in this world, but he's givin' em hell in the next world.

A great competitor and a wonderful man. I started following IndyCar some years ago and in that time I had come to greatly admire Wilson. The guy had a real passion for his sport, and he always put his heart and soul into his driving. Plus, the results he got with the equipment he was given are definitely a testament to his ability as a racer. This one is going to sting for a while, that's for sure.

Rest in Peace, Justin.

Also, I hope Sage doesn't place any blame on himself for this. That crash could have happened to literally any other driver out there, and he had no way of preventing that nose cone from flying the direction it did. Just a freak accident. I know this is going to weigh heavily on his mind for a while, and I think he deserves to be in our thoughts and prayers as well.

The only memory I have of him was the 2012 Texas race, and as someone who just started watching Indycar for something other than the 500 it felt good to see a driver like him win for a team like Dale Coyne.

First time I've seen a driver killed in a race live, not something that I hope to see ever again.

Justin Wilson was probably the most underrated driver in the IndyCar paddock in my opinion. His ability to take a car that would otherwise be at the back and get sold results with it was something I always admired about him. Another thing that really struck home was Graham Rahal's comments about him really helping him get into IndyCar (then Champ Car). He seemed like a genuine nice guy and will be missed by the entire IndyCar community.

Another black mark in racing this season. This one is gonna be hard to take.

Justin Wilson deserved better than what happened to him that Sunday at Pocono. He was a great guy and a very talented driver. RIP. Crying or Very sad

You would be very hard pressed to find a more respected and well liked driver than Justin Wilson. I had the privilege of seeing him race in person at several Mid Ohio IndyCar races as well as the Rolex 24 (the year he won in 2012). The man had a gift for driving. I remember watching him at Mid Ohio in 2009, driving for the underfunded Dale Coyne Racing, taking the fight to Penske, Ganassi, and Andretti. I also saw him in 2015, and even got his autograph. From street tracks, to road courses, to short ovals, to superspeedways like Pocono, the guy excelled on every type of track.

The amazing thing about Justin Wilson is how friendly he was. He always had a smile even when the going got tough. I believe he overcame dyslexia as a kid as well, and in his adult life he always enjoyed interacting with fans. His kindness came through after his death: Justin was an organ donor, and six people got lifesaving organs in the past few days.

We've lost a great driver and a great man; Wilson is now racing at the track in the sky with Ayrton, Dale, Dan, and sadly many others. Godspeed, Justin. We're going to miss you.

I haven't been following open wheel racing more recently than 2011, but from what I have heard and read, Justin Wilson was truly a unique man. Watching the race at Mid-Ohio last week was actually one of the first times that I realized his maturity and respect as a racer, and it's very hard to believe that this happened to him only one week later. It's great to see all of the support that his family has been receiving. I hope the auto racing community will always remember him.

Rest In Peace, Justin Wilson.

Like the tribute poster I made in honor of Jules Bianchi, I've also done one for Justin Wilson. It simply seemed appropriate to do so.

It's a shame that things like this can happen in racing and people will still have the audacity to say "Racing is not a real profession/test of a man's ability/sport." R.I.P. Justin Wilson.
