Was a... derpy race to say the least.  Was kind of a downer when the Justin Wilson deal happened.

On a positive, got some autographs and...

I think the drag racing canopies are mostly designed to keep out fire rather than heavy debris. That said, if a full canopy were to be designed for Indycars, it would need to be removable from inside, while upside-down and on fire. That will be awfully difficult to engineer. The "windsheild" idea could work, but the FIA's testing destroyed their prototype, so I'm not convinced they could be made strong enough to deflect heavy debris without being too heavy to be useful.

That said, this is definitely the direction open cockpit racing series' need to go. Something needs to be done about debris intrusion.

Looking at the race as a whole and putting Wilson's death aside. I do have to give props to Sage Karam. I admit, I really didn't like him this season. However he looked like a beast out there. I think had he not wrecked, He would have been my pick to win the race.

Apparently Sage also got hurt in the wreck and was transported to the hospital later Sunday night, so I hope Sage is alright physically and mentally. It has to be tough being involved in a fatal crash for anyone, let alone a 19 year old.

Sage was transported via ambulance for a possible right foot injury, but all tests came back negative and he was cleared to drive.

As PYLrulz said, I was at this race with him. I did not see the crash live as I was in the bathroom. However, seeing a replay of it made me cringe. When I found out that Justin had indeed passed away due to his injury, I sat with my girlfriend and cried a little.

The first race I go to, and someone dies. Puts a rather dark cloud on an otherwise entertaining day at the track. Figured I'd put my thoughts in here instead of the other thread.

RIP Justin Wilson, forever badass Sad
