http://www.motorsport.com/indycar/news/indycar-issues-strict-code-of-conduct-for-drivers

So I guess this means no drivers are allowed to speak their minds on what they feel isn't right in IndyCar. Any thoughts on this?

F**k Mark Miles. Mad

The only thing that's detrimental to IndyCar is this douchenugget.

Seriously, the people in charge of these big name racing series need to get their heads out of their asses. This is beyond ridiculous at this point.

As long as the product on-track stays the same this will "hopefully" be easy to ignore.

I can see how he doesn't want comments like "This type of racing kills people" but at the same time this is going a tad to far with it...Then again i see this rule being forgot about/going away real quickly anyway.

IndyCar just posted this on the official Facebook page. From Mark Miles:

This rule is not a gag order. We recognize that controversy, tension and drama all have a place in motorsport today. Our drivers are competitors and we have no interest in eliminating the emotion and passion that is an integral part of our sport – or limit the content for media covering INDYCAR. As an example, some have speculated that the exchange between Ed Carpenter and Sage Karam last Saturday at Iowa Speedway would result in penalty under this new rule – that is not the case. We feel exchanges of that manner do not cross the line and instead highlight the intensity of Verizon IndyCar Series competition. We feel it’s our responsibility to distinguish between irresponsible statements that damage the sport or its competitors and the intense competitive nature of the series. This rule is to ensure we have authority to act when we feel it is required.

Considering the guy delivering this message, this is just lipservice bullshit, as far as I'm concerned.

The rules are to ensure dignified behaviour. I see no problem with them.

So much for listening to drivers' inputs. They're taking the NASCAR route at this point, which is not what you want to emphasize your brand.

All in all, Mark Miles should just GTFO. This clown is as bad if not worse than Brian France and Bernie Ecclestone combined.

Really? Because all I see is a bunch of BS with this rule. Neutral

They're basically taking away a driver's ability to level criticism or opinions against IndyCar for any dumb decisions they make, and let's be honest here, IndyCar has made some dumb decisions recently (Brian Barnhart, anyone?).

I could understand measures being taken against statements that are unnecessarily detrimental. However, I would personally think that participants should be allowed to comment on the management that directly affects them (race schedule, rules package, racing product, etc.) regardless as to whether or not it is negative, as long as they are not doing so in an outlandishly aggressive or threatening manner. That's simply a personal opinion, though.

The big problem I have with this rule is that it almost gives the impression that no one is allowed to say anything bad about anyone or anything. Mark Miles doesn't have respect for anyone and he doesn't know anything about racing, he only does what he feels is good for the sport, which is completely wrong. If things get even more out of control, it wouldn't be good to see it but I wouldn't be surprised to see teams and drivers leave the sport, because why should they continue to run in a Series that's controlled by such an incompetent bastard? Both he and Brian Barnhart are as bad as each other.

The way I see things, would you rip on your job while representing your job?!? That's how I see it. I doubt it stops someone from walking up to Brian Brainfart and say that something is wrong, they just don't want someone shooting off saying stupid stuff on TV.

As long they don't say something racist or unnecessary insults (Like an autism insult), I don't think anything they should say should be censored or enforced in a restrictive manner.

If they were doing something incredibly stupid that it inhibits the growth of the sport, yes, I would.

Pretty much in agreement with this. This measure just makes sense from a business standpoint, disparaging the sport in the public eye is certainly not good for its image.

From a business standpoint... maybe.

From a common sense standpoint? F**k no.

Ehhh it makes sense from a common sense point if they're slamming the brand when they're not getting their way. For Example with Power at Fontana.

Think of it this way...

What is the better course of action, saying something is wrong with your job in the most public of manners, or going to your boss in private and saying there are issues... and bringing a few of your co-workers along to vouch for it?
