MAVTV 500 - IndyCar
This usually was supposed to be the season finale of the Verizon IndyCar Series at the 2-mile superspeedway at Fontana, but IndyCar moved it to late-June for the 2nd 500-mile race of the season. Tony Kanaan won last year's race. Josef Newgarden won the most recent race in a thriller in Toronto over Filippo, Castroneves and Power. Montoya currently leads the championship.
The race is Saturday at 4pm et.

Here is the entry list: https://d1b8ufspcmikd1.cloudfront.net/~/media/Files/2015/IndyCarSeries/12-FON/indycar-entrylist.pdf?vs=1&d=20150623T111318
Briscoe back in the 5 car, Karam back in the 8, Mann and Vautier back in the 18 and 19, respectively; and, we're also at an oval, so, Carpenter hops back in the 20.
Also, note that the NBCSN promo is calling the race "Indy Fontana", which means they're now pulling the horsecrap of not calling the race by its real name, unless the title sponsor pays for advertising.

There's a reason he's been dumped after the last full-time seasons he's ran.

Is is a bad thing or not that this may be the best race of the season at the rate its going, including the Indy 500?

It was a pit crew blunder, I doubt they would've penalized the driver for something that was not his fault.

Great racing! Thanks for telling it like it is Foyt!
Tim Cindric is butthurt because his driver wrecked.

I kind of see both sides of this... I honestly think this may be the first and last Fontana race like this. But it sure is entertaining.

So that was the best car Takuma Sato will have all year. It seems like once a year Foyt nails the setup for his car, and odds are someone else trolls into Taku. His Kevin Harvick, "WHERE DID HE COME FROM?!" impression was rock solid there at the end.
Briscoe.

UUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Shame the race had to end like that. And it's a shame Graham Rahal had to win one of the best races I've ever watched.

Power can just shut his yapper, HE COMPARED VEGAS TO FONTANA! Last time i checked Fontana can go 5 wide with extra room, guy is a hothead.
Bringing up the Vegas 2011 is too much, and triggered me.

Glad Graham Rahal won, he's been pretty good so far this season and has been pretty close to a few wins already.
I kinda agree with Power, that racing was....in my opinion, too much. Though the mention of Las Vegas was not needed.

Re: MAVTV 500 - IndyCar
This is what annoys me most about what I've seen and heard today, including what Will Power said about Las Vegas in his rather pitiful interview. Fontana is NOTHING like Las Vegas in terms of pack racing. Putting 34 cars tightly packed into a 1.5 mile, with all drivers running flat out was just a recipe for tragedy, and it sadly was.
With Fontana, it's somewhat reasonable with the track having lots of racing room with considering how wide the track is, there's plenty of space for the cars to use so accidents would be less frequent. And despite the outcome of the end with Briscoe's scary flip, we could've seen worse than that today, but thankfully we didn't and that's very important.
And also, I'm sure the winner may not have been what most people wanted and I can understand that, but it doesn't change the fact that this race will go down in history as one of the best in IndyCar racing, but it also disappoints me that crowd turnout for the race was rather upsetting as well.

Re: MAVTV 500 - IndyCar
So, clearly the aero kits need some wind tunnel work to help prevent blowovers. It's only a matter of time until someone cheese-graters the car against the fence.
Credit where it's due though, Dallara makes a heck of a strong safety tub for those cars. Didn't think it could take a lawn-dart kind of impact at those speeds without breaking apart

Re: MAVTV 500 - IndyCar
Fantastic race and honestly most likely the best race of 2015, That's race you will come back to and say "Damn i remember this race and they were going nuts." Just nutty racing all 250 laps of it. Rahal broke the streak....took him long enough lol.
They need to figure out the stuff with the cars getting airborne, you could see from the start of the accident with Briscoe that it was a perfect setup for turning the car into an auto Frisbee. Good thing to see him get out as that dig-in looked nasty. I kind of hope we can get that perfect medium with good racing like this and it being as safe as possible, maybe it's not possible but hey i try my hardest to be optimistic.

I seriously doubt a lot of people is gonna agree with you, including myself. To each his own, though.
Without a doubt, one of the best races I've ever seen IndyCar put on. When you have a mind-boggling, not to mention IndyCar record setting 80 lead changes, shattering a 14 year mark, plus the incredible side-by-side racing, going three and four wide, divebombs for the lead, it's incredible to watch. It's a shame it had to end under caution like that, but it was inevitable, and thankfully, Briscoe was alright after such a violent accident.
Rejects of the Race are Will Power and Tim Cindric. Get the industrial-sized bottle of Preparation H out for these two, because the amount of butthurt on display from the both of them was sickening, to be honest. Both of you seriously need to sprout a sack.
Statistically the most competitive race in IndyCar history, and without a doubt, the most exciting race of the year so far, IndyCar or NASCAR.
The MavTV 500 @ Auto Club gets nothing less than a 10/10.

Re: MAVTV 500 - IndyCar
To clarify, I don't like the pack racing, I'd much rather have the kind of racing we saw at Indy last year. It's not as big an issue to me as the lack of a closed cockpit, though. Some open wheel fans just have a hard time letting nostalgia go.

Would you want to sit in near 100 degree temps for a few hours?!? As much as I like IndyCar, that would be a negative for me, not unless you can get me seats that are shaded or in the air conditioning
As for the racing itself, saw some clips... seriously... pack racing?!? Didn't IndyCar see what happened the last time we had pack racing?!? Yeah, there is a little more room, and there isn't 34 cars trying to race, but pack racing IndyCars is a recipe for disaster, be it 20odd cars on a 2 mile very wide oval, or 30odd at a tight 1.5 mile oval.

They made it work for 125 laps without caution. They put on a hell of a show. Was very sketchy but it seemed to suit the track much more.

Re: MAVTV 500 - IndyCar
I'm all for "breaking up the pack" - not for safety reasons, mind you, but to keep hacks like Rahal from winning. Seriously, that was like a restrictor plate race: constant battling at the front, and at the end, David Ragan wins. Also, Rahal left the pits with the buckeye from the fuel hose, then lost it on the track, which caused a yellow. How is that not a penalty? Not to mention he swerved all over the place like a madman. Oh, well. At least he won't win in Milwaukee. Fun race, but, Christ, what a joke of an ending. Glad Briscoe's OK, too.
