2015 NHL PLAYOFFS THREAD! Empty 2015 NHL PLAYOFFS THREAD!

Post by Lucstar88 Wed Apr 15, 2015 6:36 pm

It starts tonight folks! The 2015 NHL Playoffs will begin, with the divisional round. Last year's champs the LA Kings missed the cut, meaning that we will have new champions!

Western Conference
(C1) St. Louis Blues VS (WC1) Minnesota Wild.

The Blues are one of the NHL's best offensive teams, with Tarasenko, Steen and T.J. Oshie leading the rush. With a great top 2 d-man of Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk. Jake Allen will get the call between the pipes.

Minnesota is a incredible story, they were under .500 until they acquired  Devin Dubynk, from Arizona for a draft pick. Since then, they've been on a tear, becoming a great team. Vanek, Parise and Pominville are great fowards, with Ryan Suter (One of the Elite D-Man) leading the point.

*Prediction* Wild take it in 7

(C2) Nashville Predators VS (C3) Chicago Blackhawks.

Nashville is a great team, but have died down since the all-star break. Filip Forsberg is contending for the Calder, Shea Weber and Roman Josi are great together, and they have a elite goalie in Pekka Rinne.

Chicago is looking for a dynasty, Towes, a returning Kane, Keith, Crawford and many others are trying to get their 3rd cup in 5 years.

*Prediction* Nashville gets it in 6

(P1) Anaheim Ducks VS (WC2) Winnipeg Jets.
The Ducks are the Western Conference's best team. Getzlaf and Perry and Kesler are great but their D and Goalie are inexperienced in the post-season.

The Jets are returning to the playoffs for the first time since 1996, (the last year in Winnipeg before going to Phoenix) and the FANS ARE EXITED selling their Game 3-4 tickets in 5 MINUTES. Ladd, Wheeler, Mark Scheifele lead the pact, while Tyler Myers and Dustin Byfuglien are a wrecking crew for defence, Ondrej Pavelec is one of hockey's hottest goalies, carrying the Jets on their back to make it in, including 3 shutouts in a row!

*Prediction* Jets get it in 6

(P2) Vancouver Canucks VS (P3) Calgary Flames.

Vancouver has made it again with the Sedin twins along with Vrbata lead the Canucks in points, and Eddie Lack gets the call to lead after Ryan Miller's injury. They look to go back in the finals after losing to Boston in 2011.

Calgary is the little team that could, lead by rookies, losing their captain Mark Giordano, everybody thinking they were rebuilding. Led by the young line of Sean Monahan, Johnny *Hockey* Gaudreau and Jiri Hudler. Kris Russell has the most blocked shots in NHL season history. Jonas Hiller has had the pressure before, and they may be too hot to handle.

*Prediction* Calgary in 7

EASTERN CONFERENCE

(A1) Montreal Canadiens VS (WC1) Ottawa Senators.

This is going to be a barn-burner of a series folks. They HATE each other and both have great years.

Montreal has been leading the Atlantic for a while, behind a RECORD BREAKING season of Carey Price, who broke the Habs record of most wins, and also has a not to shabby 1.96 GAA, and .933 SV%. Montreal's is better at defense than offence, as they lost Max Pacioretty for a game or two. P.K. Subban is a offensive d-man beast.

Ottawa is just incredible, they were 16 points out of a spot in February, then Clarke MacArthur ran into goalie Robin Lehner, and both goalies were out. The call up was a 27 year old AHL goalie who let in 3 goals on 3 shots in 39 seconds in a game against the Phantoms. His name Andrew Hammond. He started off 3-0 after a road trip in Cali. He got more wins and started to become a phenom. He got the nickname of Hamburglar. He lead the Senators to pass Boston and make the playoffs! HE also beat Ken Dryden's record of best NHL start to his career, Hammond got a 20-1-2 record to lead the Sens. Mark Stone has become a front runner for Calder, Ryan and Turris are being wonderful, and Erik Karlsson is a former Norris winner (and may win it again!).

*Prediction* Montreal wins in 7 but not after a entertaining series!

(A2) Tampa Bay Lightning VS (A3) Detroit Red Wings.
Tampa Bay has had a great year, being led by top scorer Steven Stamkos, Tyler Johnson, and young player Nikita Kucherov. Anton Stalman and Victor Hedman is one of the NHL's top defensive pair. Ben Bishop is also not to bad of a goalie.

Detroit has been in the playoffs for 23 years straight! Led by Pavel Dastyuk, Zetterberg and Detroit's great scouting system! (Tatar, Nyquist and more). Kronwall is tough and will knock you down. Their goalie situation may be bad, but hopefully Petr Mrazek gets the job, that Howard couldn't do.

*Prediction* Tampa Bay in 6
(M1) New York Rangers VS (WC2) Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Rangers are the NHL's best team, winning the President's trophy. Rick Nash leads the team in goals and points, Keith Yandle improved the league's best defense at the deadline. St. Louis wants that last shot. Henrik Lundquist is the best goalie outside of Canada (#2 behind Price Razz). They want to avenge their lost to LA in 5 last year.

Pittsburgh has a big question mark. They have Crosby and Malkin, but nothing else. Letang is out for the year with a nasty concussion. Fleury is known for choking in the spotlight. This may be the end of the Penguins years of success?

*Prediction* Rangers in 5

(M2) Washington Capitals VS (M3) New York Islanders.

Washington is a great turn-around. Ovi has the most goals in the NHL (in a year where the Art Ross winner has 87 points, Ovi has 53 goals), Backstrom is the man giving the puck to Ale Ovechkin, notching 60 assists. Hotlby is a good goalie, but unproven in the playoffs.

The Islanders make it to the playoffs, but are looking to make it out of the Quarter Finals for the first time since 92-93. John Tavares is one of the league's best players, along with Ryan Strome and Kyle Okposo to carry the offence. Nick Leddy and Johnny Boychuk have been 2 great adds for the D, and Jaroslav Halak being their #1 goalie who has had success, leading the Habs to the Conference Finals back in 2010.

*Prediction* Washington gets it in 7.

(Rest of Predictions)
Semi-Finals
Minnesota VS Nashville - Nashville in 6
Winnipeg VS Calgary - Winnipeg in 7

Montreal VS Tampa Bay - Tampa in 6
New York Rangers VS Washington - New York in 6

Conference Finals
Nashville VS Winnipeg - Winnipeg in 7
Tampa Bay VS New York R - Tampa in 7

FINALS
Winnipeg VS New York - Winnipeg wins the cup after a outstanding performance by Pavelec (Conn Smyte) and win it in 6.

2015 NHL PLAYOFFS THREAD! Empty Re: 2015 NHL PLAYOFFS THREAD!

Post by Lucstar88 Thu Apr 30, 2015 2:30 pm

The second round starts tonight!

First round results.
Minnesota 4 St. Louis 2. The Blues could not get passed the league's hottest team in the Wild. Zach Parise collected 7 points for the Wild, while Devin Dubnyk shut the door on another short playoff run for St. Louis.

Chicago 4 Nashville 2. The Predators lost Shea Weber early in the series, dealing a huge lose for them. Even with their great offensive weapons in Forsberg, Ribiero and Neal could not get pass the playoff juggernaut of the Blackhawks.

Anaheim 4 Winnipeg 0. Don't let the result fool you, any team could've won the series, but the Jets lack of PK and taking stupid penalties led the comeback Ducks to win all 4. Corey Perry (Who Winnipeg fans called Katy Perry) got 7 points in the sweep. Jets fan may be down, but they love their team so much, they have the best fans in sports.

Calgary 4 Vancouver 2. This series was great. Calgary's young team that A LOT of people said they were going for Connor McDavid, came up big against the Canucks, who without the help outside of the Sedins, had no shot.

Montreal 4 Ottawa 2. This series was fantastic, and worrying Razz. After the first game this rivalry was BLOWN after P.K. Subban's slash on Mark Stone. The Hamburglar got cooked, but Craig Anderson almost came back from a 3-0 deficit, with the lack of the Canadiens offence, but the Sens had 1 problem. Hart trophy nominee Carey Price. He collected a 2-0 shutout in game 6 to send the Habs in the next round.

Tampa Bay 4 Detroit 3. Tampa came back from a 2-0 deficit back in game 4, to win in OT, which saved their season, as Peter Mrazek was unbelievable. The 3 times Tampa got shut out this year, all to Mrazek. Tampa won both game 6 and 7 to take the series and a date with Montreal.

New York Rangers 4 Pittsburgh 1. This was kinda one-sided, New York after going to the finals was the better team. Pittsburgh's offence not named Crosby and Malkin was non-existed. Also losing Kris Letang was bad.

Washington 4 New York Islanders 3. Great series. Both teams were great, but Washington's X-factor of Alex Ovechkin, and help from Nick Backstrom and KUZZIE (Yes. Not kidding) Very Happy
lead the Capitals winning and ending the last chapter in Nassau Coliseum. New York is moving to Brooklyn next year in the Barclays Center.

SECOND ROUND MATCHUPS.

(C3) Chicago Blackhawks VS (WC1) Minnesota Wild. Chicago takes it in 7.
Last meeting : 2014 Western Conference Semifinals : CHI 4-2 MIN

(P1) Anaheim Ducks VS (P3) Calgary Flames. Anaheim in 6
Last Meeting : 2006 Western Conference Quarterfinals : ANA 4-3 CGY

(A1) Montreal Canadiens VS (A2) Tampa Bay Lighting. Heart says Montreal. Head says Tampa  in 6.
Last Meeting : 2014 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals : MTL 4-0 TB

(M1) New York Rangers VS (M2) Washington Capitals. NYR in 6
Last Meeting : 2013 Easter Conference Quarterfinals : NYR 4-3 WSH

Goddammit, every team I was really pulling for got knocked out. Kinda hesitant to pull for anyone after that... but if I had to, it'd be Minnesota, Washington, and if they weren't facing the Ducks, Calgary (Even for me, that's a massive lost cause, Calgary's lost something like their last 20 games in Anaheim).

I missed this being I was watching Sony's E3 conference, but....

The Chicago Blackhawks win their third Stanley Cup in six seasons by shutting out the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0 in Game 6.

Congrats to my Preds for letting a fucking backup goalie get inside their heads to the point that it spurned the 'Hawks to another Cup. Great job, guys. You deserve to sit out the playoffs next year as punishment.

My team lost to a guy who can't score in the finals, and a goalie who played with a torn groin (Props for that Bishop!)
