Bank of America 500 - Sprint Cup Series Empty Bank of America 500 - Sprint Cup Series

Post by BBoy Mon Oct 10, 2011 5:54 pm

The next round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup is home to the Charlotte Motor Speedway. During this year's Coca-Cola 600, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was about 1/2 mile shy on his fuel, and Kevin Harvick took the checkered flag. Can Dale Jr. redeem himself at the home of NASCAR? Can Jimmie Johnson find lady luck here again? Can Kevin Harvick repeat? We'll find out this Saturday!

This Week's Go-or-Go Homers:

7 - Robby Gordon
21 - Trevor Bayne
30 - David Stremme
35 - Geoff Bodine (DNQ)
37 - Josh Wise (DNQ)
38 - JJ Yeley
46 - Scott Speed (DNQ)
55 - Travis Kvapil
60 - Mike Skinner
66 - Michael McDowell
75 - Derrike Cope
77 - Andy Lally (2nd TRG car)
87 - Joe Nemechek

Y'know, he may have been lucky to win the 500, but he did pick up a win at Dover later that year on merit. Time will tell if Bayne or Ragan can do the same. I'd say Bayne has a better shot.

I do think Cope should give it up, though.

I can't wait until Charlotte ditches the yellow walls. They're so freakin' ugly, and they make no sense.

Disagree. It's something different. Of course, red and white walls would be best, like back in the day, but we know that won't come back

Willing to bet the only reason he's running is cause of the Bud Shootout rules say you gotta run at least one race a year to qualify. He'll run this race, and then we won't see him in a Cup car till February.

It was awesome when they painted the walls yellow for the all star race, because that made perfect sense. When they just started leaving the paint up (laziness), it became old real quick, and the fact that it was done half-assed and tacky didn't help either. There's a huge difference between doing it right (like Homestead and Phoenix), and doing it like Charlotte. I wouldn't mind if they painted the walls some color that has meaning to Charlotte and/or North Carolina, such as blue or silver, but yellow makes absolutely no sense. Hell, they could even paint the walls pink for the October race and Coca-Cola red for the May race (that's actually a great idea).

I don't see why not. Darlington still has its red and white walls, doesn't it?

Considering they put Sadler in the 71 to preserve their top 35 spot, I think it's obvious.

It's NASCAR reaping what they are sowing (neglect the Trucks and Nationwide series, letting the Cup guys invade them, and allowing few, if any rookies to develop

Post by gone-sovereign Thu Oct 13, 2011 9:20 pm

On the topic of the Rookie of the Year award, Trevor Bayne isn't competing for Cup points, Brian Keselowski hasn't started enough races to be eligible or at least competitive, and T.J. Bell just sucks. Andy Lally is the best you're going to get for the rest of the season. I like the guy, but if he's going to make a name for himself in NASCAR, he could at least get some decent competition for the Rookie of the Year award.

The Rookie of the Year award for both the Nationwide Series and the Truck Series this year are far more competitive than the Cup Series has.

I picked Jeff Gordon as my favorite to win this race. As of right now, I don't think it's very likely any more.

Anyways, good win, Kyle. You don't need 400 laps in to figure that out at this point.

Bank of America 500 - Sprint Cup Series Empty Re: Bank of America 500 - Sprint Cup Series

Lackluster race. RPM beasting and Jimmie POSSIBLY blowing the championship were the highlights for me.

Tally is going to separate the men from the boys.

Great win for Kenseth! Now off to the crapshoot we call Talladega.

Unless Edwards and those guys have issues, JJ drive for 6 is realistically done. I think he is too far back to do it without help.

I'm really hoping that Jimmie's crash gets GIF'd.

Considering how close the top 5 in points have been on normal track, I think the only shot for Jimmie is if the those guys wreck at Talladega and he survives the a top 5. If that doesn't happen, then Edwards, Harvick, Kenseth, Busch, Stewart, and Keselowski will have to have serious problems in the remaining 4.
