2016 Ratings System

The NR2003 ratings system is broken down as follows:

Aggression
Consistency
Finishing
Qualifying

Road Course
Short Track
Speedway
Superspeedway

Aerodynamics
Chassis
Engine
Reliability

For WCC, you are to apply +10, +5, 0 and -10 to ALL categories listed above. (Hint: these are applied once to each grouping of 4 listed above). The base ratings for each car have already been imported based on the following criteria:

Teams
Class A: WCC teams that won 2 or more races in 2015/Full-time Teams from TMMC, TMLT, Dash Cup, FARC
Class B: WCC teams that competed in 2015
Class C: New WCC teams

Drivers
Class A: Drivers who have won 2 or more races in WCC/Finished top 10 in 2015 points/Race winner in TMMC, TMLT, Dash Cup, FARC
Class B: Drivers who competed in WCC in 2015 and scored more than 50 championship points
Class C: Drivers who are new to WCC/Drivers who failed to score less than 50 points in 2015

This is the same ratings system as 2015. You may elect to keep your ratings from last season. However, if you want new ratings, please private message me on EFR or GOMA TS/Discord by next Wednesday, February 24th, 2016 at 8pm EST. Thank you.

I would presume that one-off FARC teams don't fall into this category, but would just like to make sure that that is the case?

Marcel Bussiere Claims Pole at Talladega
Rookie Frenchman Marcel Bussiere, 19, from Nice, France, took home the Joe Tree and Lawn Care Pole Award for the World Challenge Cup race at Talladega. The youngster formerly raced in Formula C last season, before deciding to take a career switch into stock cars.

"I've always seen it on television, even though I grew up in a single-seater background. The cars look fun to drive. We were off the pace in Memphis but the car has been fast this weekend. The race could bring anything, as it's Talladega, and no one knows what's going to happen."

When asked if he was okay with the pack racing that occurs at Talladega, Bussiere responded, "I'll answer that question after the race finishes", showing reporters a wry smile that seemed to indicate some kind of apprehension.

EUROTech Goes to Nemoto
EUROTech arrived at Talladega with the Nemoto Celerox rather than the fleet of Omecha MA02's that were quite successful for the team. No one could be reached for comment, but it is believed that the team decided to make the switch for the American oval races, and could switch back for the European leg at the end of the season. There is no WCC rule that prevents teams switching manufacturers mid-season.

2016 Race 2: Talladega

Results

Spoiler:
Driver of the Race: Colwyn Pryce
Reject of the Race: Adam Lennox, various lapped cars

Tommi Arjanien Injured in Talladega Big One
Finnish driver Tommi Arjanien was taken to a local hospital after a big wreck on lap 3 of today's race. After further evaluation, it was determined that he has a concussion, three broken ribs, a broken ankle, and a sprained shoulder. He will miss a considerable amount of time, and while team owner Arthur Hammond says it's too early to make a driver decision, he has stated that the #04 team will contest every race this season.

Bussiere Blasts Superspeedway Racing
After qualifying, Marcel Bussiere was very confident that he could compete for the win at Talladega. However, those dreams were spoiled on lap three, when his #21 did a slow rollover during a massive accident and the day was done for the Tress Motorsports team. "It's just stupid, now I know why Master Cup doesn't even touch this place or Daytona anymore, there's no good use for them. I don't get why people enjoy this type of racing. Cars 4 wide 10 rows deep does nothing to showcase driver talent, it's all about luck. The race got a lot more interesting once the wreck happened." Bussiere states that he knew that something bad was going to happen, and that the big accident should come as no surprise to anyone. "Really, you put a bunch of young kids like myself in rocketships and then tell them they can't break away from each other, I don't know how anyone could expect a different result than the one we got."

WCC Announces Formation of the Dubai Grand Prix
Today, WCC and GRT Ventures announced that the season's final race on the Streets of Dubai will be the first "special event" in WCC's short history. The event will be open to all competitors who choose to show up to the race, as has been the case for many years in other series. "We feel like doing this gives us added exposure into the future", said Lewis. "Anyone can show up, we're open to accepting any entries as long as they prove they can add something to the show and not be a deterrent to the championship battle".

WCC Officials Release More Dubai Grand Prix Details
In a press release, World Challenge Cup officials revealed more details about December's Dubai Grand Prix, slated to be the final race for the World Challenge Cup's 2016 season. The first and most notable thing revealed was the qualifying format. The series will hold a qualifying session, after which, the top 20 will be locked into the main event. The remaining portion of the field will be put into a qualifying race, or races, depending on how many entries appear in the UAE the second week of December. Currently, there are 43 cars on the preliminary entry list, with every full-time WCC team scheduled to run, as well as some Dash Cup and PART teams. Entries are still being reviewed and accepted by WCC officials.

The series also announced a $1.5 million dollar prize for the race's winner, along with a $750,000 prize for the highest finishing non-WCC driver in the race. Currently entered as "celebrity" drivers are Dash Cup champions Ben Atkins and Cassie Collins, Amber Clagett, who will pilot Kwik Fit's third entry, and PART drivers Kelly Ashcroft and Christine Young. Jacob Eichholtz also formed a team and is planning to take the remaining fleet of E231s to the race, although this has not been confirmed by anyone at GRT.

Officials are also gearing up for numerous applications to race from local middle eastern drivers, specifically drivers from the UAE. Up to 7 drivers from the UAE are rumored to be lodging entries for the race.

2017.....Totally Different?
Whispers around the paddock have said that in 2017, the World Challenge Cup will be drastically different than it is in 2016. The hot rumor is that the series is going to be changing body styles. This rumor started when an odd looking car took to the track on the Saturday of the Memphis race weekend and did a 175 lap run with a tire change before qualifying commenced. Another well-placed source claims that the calendar for 2017 will look drastically different as well. The source said that series officials are looking at more companion races with other series rather than the standalone races they have been running. Attendance was good at Quincy, but slightly below average for Memphis and Talladega, however, officials said this weekend's race at Carbondale has sold out its allotted ticket inventory. With several Dash Cup and PART teams entered for Dubai, and WCC teams entered for those series' major races, could a three-way partnership be formed with the WCC being the support race for their race weekends? It's plausible, though not likely at this time. If it does happen, expect there to be 3 standalone WCC races, with Dubai, an American oval, and an American road course being the three special events.

GRT Ventures to Expand?
GRT Ventures, the owner and commercial rights holder for World Challenge Cup, is rumored to want to expand their reach with a second auto racing league. No details have been given, although a source with knowledge of the situation says GRT is looking at a road racing series using a spec open wheel chassis as a support series. As you may recall, GRT was formed by several former Hanmore executives, who once operated Formula Overdrive. It is believed that the formation of GRT Ventures led directly to the collapse of Formula Overdrive. Could they be looking to bring back something similar? (OOC: don't read too much into this part, it's just for the sake of the rumor mill Laughing )

EUROTech Bought Out, Team to be Rebranded
EUROTech, who owns cars #1, #2, and #3, has been bought by Alaskan businessman Carl Shea. Starting at Carbondale, the team will now be known as Avalanche Motorsports. Max Meier, driver of the #2 car, will be released from his ride after Carbondale. A replacement has not been named as of this time.

GRT Ventures Announces Formation of New Series
April 1st, 2016
Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin

GRT Ventures, owners of the World Challenge Cup, have announced the formation of a second series to be run in 2017 alongside WCC underneath the GRT umbrella. The series is tentatively named the "GRT Championship Series". However, it is not a stock car league like its big brother series. It was confirmed that the series will use the spec cars ran in the ill-fated Formula Overdrive series in 2013 and 2014 from chassis provider Avril, and it will be a one-engine manufacturer formula. The series will consist of 18 races over 9 race weekends at tracks in Great Britain, France, Canada, and the United States. To many peoples' relief, however, the series will run exclusively on road courses and will avoid the ovals and the many issues that came from them during Overdrive's run. GRT officials could not be reached for further comment.

GRT Announces Formation of World Challenge Trucks
GRT Ventures announced today a second series under their sanction that will debut in 2017. It will be known as World Challenge Trucks, and will be using similar bodies that currently run in the PART SuperTruck Series. New GRT CEO Jeff Yento says that he hopes the series will provide a path for talented short track stars to make a name for themselves, and to set a career path to the World Challenge Cup and onto the higher echelons of auto racing. "We feel like this series will be a crowd pleaser, as well as a series that is mutually beneficial to ourselves and to the main World Challenge Cup series. We believe that growing the GRT brand as an initiative to assist in the formation of young drivers' careers is our main objective, and this series was built to do just that."

Registration
You may register at this site right here. The registration for this series will work exactly like the registration for the FARC Elite Series this year (sorry for ripping you off, Ceej). More information can be found on that page. Please note that this series is meant to be a short track and road course series mainly, so please adjust your characters accordingly.  Very Happy

Painting Info
TBA. Will update this post later on.

Race 6: Decatur

Spoiler:
Henke takes victory at Decatur
Tennessee native Chris Henke took home his second win of the season Saturday at Decatur, using pit strategy to jump ahead of Sarah Wexler in car #14 after the round of pit stops, and he sailed on to take his first career road course victory. "It just goes to show how great this team is that we can come here and I can be this fast without ever stepping foot on the property before Thursday," Henke said in victory lane. "I would have liked to have been able to cut Pryce's points lead more than I did, but we'll take a win any day of the week."

Race Control Assessing Accidents
Several reports close to race control say that the officials are reviewing several incidents that happened during the race, mainly the crash between the DeLuna siblings on lap 1, as well as the coming together of Robert Burton and Timothy Dulee coming into Tyson's bend halfway through the event.

GRT Ventures, the ownership group of the World Challenge Cup, announced today that the series will move to add more bodies for use in 2017, ending the two-year-old series' use of former TM Master Cup, TM Lights, and FARC (formerly ARLA) bodies. The series has notified several automobile and privateer chassis manufacturers of the incoming switch, and several outifts are expected to join the series next season. Reportedly, the new bodies will be very similar to those currently competing, but GRT has opened up the possibility for newer chassis for eligibility to compete. Previously, only chassis before 2013 were eligible to race. There is no current confirmed entries for next season, although it is expected that some series mainstays such as Hartrell Motor Racing will return. Additionally, there has been much speculation that the use of newer car bodies will lead to an alteration of the current proposed team chart that was released only a few short weeks ago.

Canis Lupus Motorsports to scale down to one car for 2017, driver unknown

On Saturday morning, it was announced that Canis Lupus Motorsports, fielding the #6, 36 and 46 cars (driven by Sebastian Kask, Phil Decker and Gustavo Garcia) in the WCC, would be scaling back to become a single-car operation after the 2016 season's conclusion. Calton-Morel was announced to be returning as the team's manufacturer and car #6 will be the only one to continue among the three. With none of the three cars currently sponsored, the team has seen a dip in funds as a result of that combined with a lack of good finishes and race income.

Thiago Carneiro, owner of Garcia's car, was reported to have had some confrontations with co-owners Casey Lester and Mitch Haubel and has been heavily rumored not to be returning to the team for next season. Relationships have also seemed to sour between Lester/Haubel and Gustavo Garcia as the Brazilian driver has hinted towards a return to Brazilian stock cars instead of a return for 2017. Extenze was linked to join this team, but the deal fell through and has added to tensions within the organization. With Carneiro's departure from CLM imminent, it will likely leave Decker and Kask as the two drivers to compete for the lone seat.

"It is unfortunate", Haubel said in a statement following this announcement, "but we feel that it is in our best interests to move forward with one car. We simply are running out of availability to fund three cars with an insufficient amount of income to do so. We would rather take the option to hold one competitive car than three that can barely sniff the Top 15 cars. Calton-Morel has been marvelous in their efforts and, on behalf of Canis Lupus Motorsports, we are beyond ecstatic that they are continuing to supply us for 2017.

"All three of our drivers have been a pleasure to work with and it is a travesty to see two of them depart. However, all of them are incredibly talented individuals who will provide gifts to other teams that are very valuable regardless where and what it is. There is no sponsorship lined up at the given moment, but we are working hard to get some decals aboard this car. We all have an enormous amount of optimism for next season and would like to thank all of our fans for their devoted support."

Canis Lupus has admittedly not had a great season overall, but certainly has seen some bright flashes over the course of 2016. Sebastian Kask's near-win at Vancouver followed by another second-place finish in France and Phil Decker's dominating victory at the Norisring are among the notable successes. Kask sits in 19th place heading into the season finale in Dubai, 123 points behind leader and Vancouver winner Patrick O'Hannegan. He is rumored to be named the driver of the #6 CM Nova just beyond the conclusion of the Dubai race as he is the highest in points among Phil Decker (28th) and Gustavo Garcia (32rd).

1st Annual Dubai Grand Prix

Jordan Vaughn leads the field to green.

We've got a big mess in the back.

Patrick O'Hannagan's day ends, he will now have to wait for the final results to see if he retains the championship.

Things get a bit messy as Siobhan McLean goes around and takes Van Gilder with her. Mike Boyd in the yellow 61 takes the lead.

Dan Francis has a nice case of karmic retribution after hooking Oskar Haldorsen.

Some action shots highlighting the racing at this extremely fast street circuit.

Team 50 Racing drive Blake Chandler intentionally wrecking another car while both are outside the points. Amazing!

Mike Boyd wins the Dubai Grand Prix in his last ever start in the series. Great work from the Wisconsin native who grew up club racing at places like Road America!

Spoiler:
O'Hannagan Wins Title, hospitalized hours after

A bad qualifying slot, caused championship leader, the irish Patrick O'Hannagan, to retire early. However, troubles experienced by his title contenders resulted in the former Formula A driver to win the title, despite not completing the first lap of the finale.

"WediditwasgreatIthanktheteam for this hard work......theydidthroughthewholeyear, it.......was amazing and I thank them for that", said a visibly spaced out O'Hannagan.

Hours later, a report from his press department came up saying he was taken to a local hospital. According to that report he was entered due to vertigo and a anxiety crisis. There has yet to be an update on his condition aside from the fact he will be fine according to to the press department.

Part-Time/Local One-Off Entries
Another new change to the race lineup for 2017 is the inclusion of part-time and one-off entries. Here, you may enter drivers in a single race or through a stretch of races. If you are entering a part-time team, you must choose which leg of the schedule you want your entry to run: the North American tour, the European tour, or the Eurasian tour. Or, you may also enter any driver just for a single race. Any entries will automatically be entered for the Dubai Grand Prix. Your entry must make sense. Do not enter an American short track star in the European races, and vice versa. Please try to be realistic. Information on the schedule as well as taken numbers can be found HERE. Thank you.
