Alcohol sponsorship not allowed in F1?
*sigh* as if things weren't bad enough.

Oh, it's typical European nanny-stateism behind this.
Shocker.
Shocker.

It would be wrong to say alcohol and (previously) tobacco sponsorship does not influence consumers to purchase their products.
The premises are there, should an alcohol company really sponsor a sport involving cars?

What's it matter? If they sell alcohol at the event, then they should sponsor the teams. Only ban it if it's illegal in the country

So we are essentially doing the Nascar games strategy on this.

Alternatively smoking is also entirely legal in European countries, yet sponsorship was banned because of the influence it did have on viewers. I have friends who took up the habit based on the late 90s sponsorship of tobacco companies, and I'd imagine there is a similar influence with alcohol sponsorship. In the short run it is no good for teams of course, but only 3 teams have primary sponsorship from said companies.

I know in France, alcohol sponsorship is already illegal (soccer clubs that play a game in France must wear a jersey without the sponsorship), so this is nothing new for some Europeans.
