NASCAR at Martinsville: The Pilgrimage To The Paperclip
NASCAR makes its return to its oldest track, as the Cup and Truck series make their returns to the half-mile paperclip known as Martinsville Speedway.
Couple cuppies in the CWTS race, as Joey Logano and David Gilliland will drive the 29 and 92 trucks respectively. Also, we get our first appearance of John Hunter Nemechek in the 8.
Oh, and somebody named Elliott is making his Cup debut in the 25 this week. I think he's pretty good.
Entry lists ahoy!

Re: NASCAR at Martinsville: The Pilgrimage To The Paperclip
Already been annoyed enough with the first 5 Cup races this year, I do hope that this is the race that produces better racing, and less BS. But knowing NASCAR, they will probably fool me on that.
Re: NASCAR at Martinsville: The Pilgrimage To The Paperclip
Martinsville will be adding a tire wall to the end of the backstretch inside wall to improve safety for the race. Somebody correct me if im wrong but I don't believe a tire wall is really needed. Especially for a track like Martinsville.

Kurt Busch will own, NASCAR will be out of options, and then all of a sudden, a lapped car gets into Busch and ruins his day, with a "punishment" for the lapped driver.

Slugger Labbe fined $50,000 and suspended for the next three Cup races for improperly mounted truck arm. 33 car loses 25 owner points.

Logano winning at Martinsville in a truck? I doubt it. If it was Brad, I'd more likely believe it.
Re: NASCAR at Martinsville: The Pilgrimage To The Paperclip
I'd put my money on Erik Jones or Crafton.

You don't know how hard I am going to laugh if Qualifying gets rained out and Chase Elliott misses the race.

Likely not, rain is stopping and track is getting dried
Truck 1st practice and maybe the 1st Cup practice may get cancelled...
Re: NASCAR at Martinsville: The Pilgrimage To The Paperclip
So.... they're is a big rumor that some people think teams are bleeding their tires...
BUT it's only a rumor... NASCAR did take the tires from the 27/31/4/41 teams to make sure...
Jeff Gluck @jeff_gluck · 2h 2 hours ago
Alan Gustafson says the rumored tire stuff (drilling tiny holes in them) would be very difficult to police.

Re: NASCAR at Martinsville: The Pilgrimage To The Paperclip
6:10? That's not going to leave a lot of daylight (remember, Martinsville doesn't have lights).

Re: NASCAR at Martinsville: The Pilgrimage To The Paperclip
The 44 team has withdrawn from Martinsville due to "rain", but the real reason is apparently more troubling.

For the 822nd time this season, a high-profile driver will miss a race. This time Kyle Larson fainted during an autograph session, went to a local hospital before being transferred to a Neurologist in Charlotte. He will be subbed by Regan Smith.
Also Crafton did the same thing Dale Jr. did to win last year.

If you get what I mean when I say this, would it be appropriate to say that Regan Smith is the Roberto Moreno of NASCAR?
Re: NASCAR at Martinsville: The Pilgrimage To The Paperclip
Damn. Smith may as well go for Cup points the amount of races he's been a sub in this season.
But that blows for Larson. Hope he gets well soon.

Ok so Hamlin's crew will likely get fired cause I think that's 3 times now this season they been penalized for uncontrolled tires.

We have more tire penalties this year after 6 races than last year as a whole.

Seriously, what is up with all the uncontrolled tire penalties this year? Are all the crews lacing their gloves with butter or something?

And we just stacked them up. Looks like Dale Jr. got the worst of it.

That was a stackup of epic proportions O_o
Re: NASCAR at Martinsville: The Pilgrimage To The Paperclip
The Truck Series race was shaping up to be a very entertaining show with three trucks that really could have won, and it's a real shame that it fell apart at the end. I doubt that Custer meant to run into either Crafton or Logano, but I suppose that it's understandable that they were upset at him.
And it was very disappointing for me personally to watch the only Cup driver in the field take the win after all of that unfolded, especially because that driver was Logano. At least the race was competitive.

David Gilliland was in the Truck Race yesterday but either parked it or had a mechanical issue.

Ah, I had forgotten about Gilliland. I still much rather would have had Crafton, Custer, or Jones win (I don't think that Jones had a winning truck, but if the leaders had gotten themselves into trouble then he could have stolen the lead at a few points towards the end of the race).Memoriesallbutdone wrote:SpeedDemon37 wrote:The Truck Series race was shaping up to be a very entertaining show with three trucks that really could have won, and it's a real shame that it fell apart at the end. At least we finally saw a decent Cup race this year. Not too pleased about Hamlin winning but that was a good battle between him and Keselowski.
