New touring car series TCR in Int., Ita., Asia, USA and more
Announced quite a while ago that there would be a new TC3 (Now known as TCR) regulation for touring cars will be set in place with former World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) head Marcello Lotti marketing the championship. The initial announcement was an International and Asian championship to run individually and also at Formula One Grand Prix as support venues.
The calendar thus far includes the Malaysian, Chinese, Russian and Singapore Grand Prix, with additional rounds at tracks such as Monza, Buenos Aires, Buriram and seemingly Macau (yet awaiting confirmation).
So far 6 manufacturers have been approved:
-Alfa Romeo with the Giulietta QV (!!! )
-Seat with the Leon Cup car
-Volkswagen with the Golf Cup car
-Ford with a Focus developed by (I believe they're the same) ex-F1 team Onyx
-Honda and a specially prepared Civic
-Opel with the Astra Cup car
Recently, the ACI in Italy and the RACB in Belgium announced they would be running the Italian and Benelux version respectively. However, most recently the US Touring Car Championship (USTCC) announced they would also be running a TCR championship.
The USTCC, competing under the SCCA and NASA, has been running for some time, but the last time a large profile touring car championship emerged in North America was towards the end of the Super Touring era in the late 90s. The series was largely successful amongst fans but was quite clearly not as marketable in the NASCAR and Indy dominated region.
It would be interesting to see whether the series will take off successfully within the US considering the unfortunate end of the NATCC in 1997, especially considering it will be run by an organisation which are nowhere near at the same level of professionalism as the ACI Sport and the RACB.

Personally, I wouldn't mind watching a Touring Car series in the US. I find myself trying to watch Rolex and that stuff whenever it's on tv anyway.

Did they announce a TV schedule, or are they going bare first time around?

This might be fun. Wonder if it'll be aired at a decent time in the US?

Pushing their luck maybe with a few of these? Can imagine Russia, Thailand and China, but no chance the Dominican Republic?
