F1 off-season
To reduce the number of threads during the off-season/silly season.
Esteban Gutierrez has signed with Ferrari:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/formulaone/article-2875069/Esteban-Gutierrez-joins-Ferrari-test-reserve-driver-following-departure-Sauber.html
Real reason behind this is sponsorship, with America Movil and it's sub-companies having reached agreement with SF and will be appearing on the cars next season.
Meanwhile, Ferrari have also released Nicholas Tombazis, Pat Fry, Luca Marmorini (August) and twice a change in the principality as well as Sergio Marchionne replacing di Montezemolo as president. Too many changes, not expecting a very good season for 2015 but I have been wrong many times before

Re: F1 off-season
I've heard it said that the Gutierrez signing may also be a stop-gap measure as Ferrari's highest-placed junior now that Bianchi's career is pretty much over is Marciello; and whilst he may have a great turn of pace, he looks nowhere near ready to even sit in an F1 car at this stage.

Marciello wasn't too far off the pace in the Abu Dhabi, but of course in GP2 he's been quick but erratic. Even so, now Ferrari have signed Esteban Ocon to the FDA he could quickly lose this position within the Academy as well.

Re: F1 off-season
The FIA has put together a new superlicence points system for 2016:
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2015/01/fia-reveals-details-of-2016-superlicence-points-system/
And Allen and F1 Fanatic have put together lists of current F1 drivers who wouldn't have made it into F1 under this system at the time they did.
F1 Fanatic has also put together this list of F1 drivers who would be eligible to race in 2016:

Re: F1 off-season
Good to see some form of measurement implemented, but I think in some ways they have got the superlicence points wrong. LMP1 should, personally, be rated at a higher level than GP2 is and Indycar ranked at the same level as GP2 rather than both being at the same level as FIA F3. And again the FIA have stifled the importance of national F3...this is why British F3 ended last year! And touring cars are not ranked which is bizarre considering that apart from di Resta drivers like Pascal Wehrlein and other Mercedes junior drivers would be aiming for F1 through the DTM route. Also, JEV wouldn't have been eligible for F1 despite having won British F3 and had two runner-ups in FR2.0...surely this is wrong?

Williams' look for 2015:
Even with the shortened noses I still think most of the cars in F1 this year will look pretty hideous.

Don't forget that Lotus are using Mercedes engines in 2015, so they may get back on form.

It looks like that IndyCar from a few years back; blue with yellow sidepods. Can't remember who drove it, though.

Actually, I was thinking of the car Mike Conway drove for the same team, the one he had the horrible crash at Indy in 2010 in.

Re: F1 off-season
Hottest rumor coming out of Jerez is that Manor is going to leave Administration on the 19th, the first day of the second Winter test. But what is more interesting is the fact that Honda and McLaren might be the ones saving them so Honda can have a place to plonk new Honda Parts before they go to the big house. A McLaren B-Team, and the obvious home for K-Mags assuming he doesn't go to Japan or America.
Force India, from what they're saying, are behind on the build schedual. Vijay has done a good job trying to keep the team away from his other financial troubles, but they might be finally catching up to the Force.

Re: F1 off-season
I'm starting to think that I'll probably watch more IndyCar and GP2 this year than Formula 1. The sport is literally being driven into the ground at the moment.
But on the plus side, Marussia may be coming back.

From what I read Manor (Marussia) will be at Melbourne with Honda engines and a one-year old car. Possible driver is Kevin Magnussen.

The teams that reportedly blocked it were Red Bull, Torro Rosso, Force India, Sauber, and Lotus. Seeing as the latter three regularly complain that F1 is "killing the small teams", they don't seem to be above doing it to the smallest team on the grid...BWardboy88 wrote:And now it's gone from bad to worse for Marussia:

Don't write Manor out of the season just yet. Hearing that they could be returning for the 3rd race of the season, the Chinese GP, with a 2015-spec car.
