2014 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000

The V8 Supercars roll into town on Wednesday for the 52nd running of the 'Great' race. This year, a dismal 26 cars will take the start in what is the lowest entry count ever in the races history (Even lower than the 2 Super Touring Car events). To absolutely nobody's surprise Jamie Whincup & Paul Dumbrell dominated what was a fairly dull Sandown 500 the last time the V8's went on track. Can the red hot favourites add another race victory to their tally, or can the other competitors show them up? All will be answered this weekend.

The Dunlop Series will also hold it's first ever 250km race on Saturday afternoon. Co-drivers are allowed for the race, with Bathurst 1000 competitors Steve Owen & Tony D'Alberto teaming up with Andre Heimgartner & Josh Kean respectively, but the aforementioned co-drivers aren't required for the race, as championship contenders Paul Dumbrell & Ash Walsh have already confirmed they're driving solo for the 41 lap race. Co-drivers for the 250km race won't be fully confirmed until Thursday evening. Also joining the on track action this weekend are the memories of Touring Car Masters, the carnage of the V8 Utes, the high priced Porsche Carrera Cup (I got nothing witty) & the mighty midgets known as the Aussie Racing Cars

But seriously, if there is anyone who I predict to challenge the Whincup/Dumbrell duo, I'd put my money on Driver combination's such as McLaughlin/Premat, Lowndes/Richards, Courtney/Murphy, Tander/Luff, Coulthard/Youlden and Winterbottom/Owen.

Also if I remember correctly, another Wildcard team called Dragon Racing was supposed to enter this race with two Holden VF Commodores, but I believe they pulled out because the team has not been fully prepared to practice for the big race.

They officially withdrew within the last 2 weeks (I can't remember when though). Honestly, I'm not that hyped for this race, especially after the farce of a test day being run on the same weekend as what is fast becoming the actual great race that is the 12 hour

David Reynolds set a new lap record for the V8 Supercars around Mount Panorama, breaking Craig Lowndes' record lap from 2010 with a 2min06.2714.

The lap record was broken once again in Qualifying for the Bathurst 100, with Brad Jones Racing's Fabian Coulthard topping the time charts with a 2:05.6080. Meanwhile, championship leader Jamie Whincup's struggling time at Mount Panorama got even worse when he crashes out at The Cutting, therefore starting 25th having not set a fast time. Starting behind him in last is early pacesetter David Reynolds, who crashed out in the same session, bringing out the previous red flag before Whincup did.

This will be my first Bathurst 1000. Never watched it before, always forgot to.

Big wreck in practice between Warren Luff and Craig Lowndes, Luff's car turned upside down in the wreck...luckily both are okay.

Both the Tander/Luff and Lowndes/Richards duo will not take place in the Top-10 Shootout, the 888 car will for sure be repaired in time for the 1000km race, but the Holden Racing Team right now are unsure if the #2 car will even be ready in time for the big race.

Hell of a Bathurst 1000! A little bit wrecky but still entertaining none-the-less

Helluva drive for Mostert coming back after Morris put that car in tire wall to take Bathurst victory in a thrilling fight against Whincup.

Awesome stuff.

Someone check and make sure that Frosty hasn't jumped Lowndes between haulers in the paddock.

I just want to say this right now, best finish in Motorsport this year so far in my opinion. First off huge congrats to the FPR duo of Chaz Mostert and Paul Morris for leading only 1 lap, but it was the most important one. And also, you gotta give credit to the Nissan Norton duo of James Moffat and Taz Douglas, as their car went into the wall twice during the race at Turn 2 and they still finished 2nd. And congrats to Nick Percat and Englishman Oliver Gavin for a hard-fought 3rd place.

As for Whincup, as much as I wanted Mostert to win that, I do kinda feel bad for Whincup considering he was pushing so hard trying to make it without his car running out. Overall, although several of my favourite drivers such as McLaughlin and Shane van Gisbergen fell out of contention which is disappointing for me, for my first time watching the great race for real, I was not disappointed. What a race to remember, what a finish to remember.

And also another thing, as Mostert and Morris started from 25th in the race, it means they now hold the record for the lowest starting position to win the Bathurst 1000.

Honestly, I am really jealous of the Australian's on here. That was probably the best damn race I have ever seen. That track is amazing. The drivers, race an endurance race like it is a 20 lap sprint race.

I wish, people from around the world look at this event and use it to improve road racing everywhere. I also hope that this race gets more entries, because it really deserves it.

I will rate that race a 200/10.
