Re: (Elite Series) M-Pire Drive The Dream Challenge
- Spoiler:
- Ben Atkins claims high climber bonus for second sprint race in a row for double top 10 for HQS
For the second race in a row, Ben Atkins claimed the high climber bonus in his sprint race to make his way into the feature race. Last week at 70/77, Atkins came through the field twice, first from the back of the grid to the lead, but after he cut a tire, he had to pit, but made it up to the top 5 again by the end of the race, and finished 5th. This week, Atkins climbed from 33rd to 8th to secure his third top 10 of the year, and to make the feature for the second race in a row.
His HQS teammate and rookie, Caitlin Richler, also had a career day in the 19 lap shootout, scoring her first top 5 finish in the FARC Elite Series after she ran near the front for the majority of the race. From this run, Atkins continued his support for Richler, as since the start of the season, drivers and fans have both been saying Richler was rushed into the series after she'd only just moved up into NRC competition.
"She's a fantastic driver. It's as easy as that." said Atkins, "She hasn't had the best of luck over the last couple of weeks, but now she is silencing the critics. Whenever she has a good run, she's well inside the top 10 and I'm sure it will only get better for her from here. I seriously think she'll be in victory lane before long."
The third of the HQS Racing squad to be entered this weekend, Smash Beer 500 winner Tammy Barnton, will race in Sprint #2, where Atkins is also optimistic she can take home a good result, and make it three out of three HQS cars in the main race.
Frederick Breen "confused" by pole award
After scoring the pole in his first career start, 72 year old Frederick Breen was confused when he was rushed to collect the Marlisle Pole Award and when people started cheering at him. Breen allegedly told promoters to "get off his lawn" when he was handed the pole award, and was confrontational towards cheering fans rather than co-operative.
Unfortunately, Breen did not qualify for the feature after he was caught in a crash. He was also angry towards other racers, saying that they did not know how the etiquette of a Sunday drive. It is believed his son told him that this was a Sunday drive around Talladega to cover up his fuck up and the older Breen somehow bought this.

- Spoiler:
Matthews makes Feature, extends points lead:
Survive and advance isn't just a mantra for the NCAA basketball tournament.
It's also good advice for a championship contender like Ryan Matthews.
Matthews, who started 35th in 50/50 Sprint 1, rallied to finish 12th to advance to yet another Feature event. He has not missed a Feature race since Albuquerque.
"It's important to finish well every time out," he said. "Because it isn't where you start, it's where you end up. Especially at a place like this."
Regardless of his result in the Feature, Matthews will extend his points lead over Jim Hayes, as Hayes finished 21st and did not advance.
"That's the most important thing," he said. "We'll get points in the Feature and Hayes won't. Sorry to put such a fine point on it, but that's the truth. Our title hopes get better the more races we make and that he doesn't. Simple as that."

"That was just stupid. We are all trying to survive out there and make the feature and yeah I get it, we make contact and its a racing deal, but had a decent amount of time before we needed to get antsy. We got taken out of contention along with many others, due to this." - Luke Ocean

Fred Caldwell: "Great job, Jon. Poorly timed yellow kept us from winning this thing."
Jon: "What do we have to do to win one of these?"

- Rodriguez on Sprint 1:
- "Holy hell. How much money will it take to get some better engines in this car? I know that I'm technically just a test driver, but I'd like to actually have the ability to finish one of the superspeedway races. I would like to have our Jinx engines in this car if at all possible at some point in the future. Either way, horrible handling car for this run. I really hope they figure it out for Ashley's run. Could I have made it all the way around to the pits? Maybe. You'll never really know will you? Too bad so sad Tool. Great job Jason." -Jinx Rodriguez

- HQS Racing Radio Chatter:
Ben Atkins after crash with Ashley Tucker
Ben Atkins: Do the fucking idiots at Gravity Racing, Inc just tell their drivers to go out there and fuck up as many people as possible? That's all they seem to do.
Spotter: Yeah, 71 turned the 90 and the 90 went over, Caitlin was in it too.
Ben Atkins: No doubt, since it's Packer's team, it won't be their fault. Never is his fault when he wrecks someone or if one of his drivers do. Seriously, it doesn't matter what racing series it is, either him or his drivers just wreck everyone. It's bullshit. And I'm the one paying out of my pocket for this shit. Is Ashley okay at least?
Spotter: It wasn't a bad roll. She tried to drive it away, actually.
Ben Atkins: Nice. Glad she's okay, especially after New York.
Tammy Barnton after plowing the 5O car
Tammy Barnton: What the fuck? The fucking brakes went out! I tried to hit them and they just went right to the floor.
Spotter: We're done, Tammy. We'll try again next week. Not sure Ben will be happy, he and Caity just wrecked.
Tammy Barnton: I'm sorry about this, had I have known I would have went high and just coasted it but I tried to brake and it just didn't.
- Ashley Tucker radio:
After her crash
Ashley Tucker: I'm okay guys. These fucking superspeedways hate me this year, man. Who even turned me?
Spotter: The 71 did.
Ashley Tucker: Yeah she was trying that shit in the sprint and almost waded up the field. I'm surprised she doesn't know better than not to be that impatient on the tracks like these. After all, she's a former Master Cup driver. Apparently not a very good one.
Spotter: Respect for trying to drive it away, by the way.
Ashley Tucker: Eh. I thought it would still run. Wasn't that bad of a crash after all. We'll get 'em next time around.

Re: (Elite Series) M-Pire Drive The Dream Challenge
- FEATURE:
"Unexplained failure" ends Matthews' day
It seemed like the M-Pire Drive The Dream Feature Race would be a prime opportunity for Ryan Matthews to open up a good lead in the championship chase.
But what was termed an "unexplained failure" ended Matthews' day after a mere 44 laps.
"We don't know what happened," Matthews said. "We spent the rest of the race trying to pin it down. That's why we never officially retired. At least we managed to gain points in the title chase."
The next event for Matthews is a special one; it's the inaugural Master Spark 200 at Waterbury Park, a mere 25-minute drive from the team shop in Bristol, CT.
"We've had this race circled on the calendar ever since it came out," Matthews said. "We're going all-hands-on-deck for this one. If there's one weekend we want to sweep, this one is it. We'll be ready."

- Spoiler:
- Ashcroft: We'll get it done someday
Julia Ashcroft made her 5th in FARC Elite Series and ran up front all day long, being able to lead two laps, but fell through in the closing stages of the event. After finishing second to Todd Stater, a visibly disappointed Ashcroft said in an interview: "We had a good car, everything was looking up to that lap, but I choked it away, we know that we have a real shot at winning races, but the luck needs to be on our side in order to. We'll get it done someday........"
Macena livid about pit strategy, second crew chief out of the team in 2014
Gabriel Macena had high hopes to the M-Pire Drive the Dream Challenge at the Talladega Superspeedway, and these hopes were confirmed, as, after starting in 24th, the rookie worked his way up to second, pushing Kelly Splison to the lead of the race, and he was running in the top 10 until the yellow flag came out with 25 laps to go.
Gabriel wanted to pit under yellow, but his crew chief said otherwise, what meant that Macena was one of the many drivers to pit right after the green flag, and after the conclusion of the race an altercation was reported between Macena and his crew chief Jack Donner.
After this result, the team fired Donner, in the same fashion of the team's previous crew chief, Mike Francis, that costed Gabriel a top 5 in the Rookie Shootout due to being on the cellphone instead of working on a strategy, what forced Macena to pit coming to the white flag, losing 8 positions in the process.

- Sprint 2:
- Fochesato On Pole for Sprint 2: Fails to Advance to Feature
The Focus Autosports racer of Vincenzo Fochesato qualified on the Marlisle Pole for the second time this season in the FARC Elite Series. Fochesato, however, would quickly drop outside of the top 10, and eventually finish the race in 22nd; 2 positions short of the final Feature transfer position.
Vincenzo Fochesato: I thought that this track would feel like a bigger New York, but it really doesn't. I love both of them, and I, uh, the team gave me pole-winning cars for both! But the race here didn't go nearly as well. I dropped back and couldn't get back into the top 20. I really don't want to leave here with just 19 laps, but I guess that this day could have been much worse, too. So now it's to go home and get ready for Road America!
