Spoiler:

Bryan Kelly to run Nelson Ledges?
After taking the top spot in the standings following the Toledo race, the team announced that Kelly will take part in the Nelson Ledges race and they will buy out the North East Motorsports entry for Amy Robinson. This marks the first time that a team will field two manufacturers in the series.

"Because of the series not letting us share points between drivers, this put us in a tight spot." Team Owner Al Taylor said in a press release. "We figured that if we have the points lead, we should see how far we can go with it."

WASCHER EARNS EXPERIENCE AT TOLEDO
Kris Wascher made his return to the Voltson Super Trucks since 2014, and the only track he ever won on. Wascher started the race, and ended, in the back.
"I was hoping to win since I did win here in 2014, but the field has become so competitive ever since I left, and I like that! It's so much fun!"
Wascher will not return to Nelson Ledges due to Dash Cup Aspira Juniors commitments but will be back at the end of the season.

If possible can I pick up the rest of the 2016 season? Don't know where to send the ratings (PM?). Here is the intent to enter:

Driver Name: Lester McPhail
Race(s) (if part-time): 5-10
Age: 22
Home Town and State/Province: Climax, MI
Home Race Track (optional): Kalamazoo Speedway
Car Number: 404
Sponsor(s) (fictional): (None)
Manufacturer (Saar or Lycoia): Saar
Team Name: Grade F Race Team
Team Location: Galesburg, MI
Driver's Past Experience: Street Stocks (None in canon)
Notes: Lester stuggled to get enough money to pool together a self-lead racing effort after running out of cash racing street stocks. Hopes to finally get his garage effort off the ground by attracting a sponsor, but his luck has not been very good so far...

My apologies for not clarifying that; you indeed submit ratings via PM!

Also, race 4 is still open in case that you want to enter that race, as well.

Why isn't Samantha Spires racing?

North East Motorsports was slated to run Toledo and Nelson Ledges until Spires announced that she's not currently signed to the team due to a few administration errors. Because of this, the team was paid by the Binford Racing Team to use their truck as a third entry so Amy Robinson can drive and interestingly enough, Spires' name is still on the truck.

Spires will run the full schedule after Nelson Ledges.

Super Truck's Teams Prepare for Annual Road Course Race
8 July 2016

It's an unfamiliar environment for the average competitor in the AST Voltson Super Trucks this week.

With three races down, round 4 of the 2016 championship is the series' yearly stop at the Nelson Ledges Road Course in Ohio. Located in the quiet, countryside town of Garrettsville, the two-mile club circuit isn't the grandest nor the most well-known of racing venues, but it doesn't need to be in order to be one of the most challenging, and according to the drivers of the Super Trucks, it is most definitely challenging.

"Nelson Ledges is certainly one of the toughest places where I've ever raced" said Mary Brissot, driver of the #25 Saar. Brissot finished in 2nd-place in the series' first ever race at NLRC in 2014. "There's more to it than that it's a road course. The surface of the track is so incredibly rough and worn that it makes it very difficult to find grip. If you took the pavement and made shaped it into an oval then it would be one of the toughest ovals to drive! It makes it so much harder for the drivers in this series that don't normally do road racing to adapt to the track."

Brianna Princehorn, driver of the #7 Saar, concurs with Brissot.

"I actually came here the first year thinking that me and Zack [Churchill, her teammate] were going to win because almost everyone else had never raced a road course. Then I wrecked us both on my first lap in practice!" said Princehorn with a laugh. "It's so different from any other track I've ever seen and it's scary to drive. You have to feather the throttle for like 10 seconds and it feels like forever through the Carousel when your tires are right on the edge of the track. So many people drive off or crash in that corner. And you have to enter the Kink at full throttle with the wheel turned as far as you can, and then jump on the brakes for turn 7. And that's only half the lap! It's really hard to drive!"

As if the weekend wasn't hard enough for the field of short trackers, this year there will be a new twist to Nelson Ledges weekend; the drivers will have to race their way into the event through Heats. With the entry list exceeding the predetermined maximum number of trucks, all but the fastest two time trial qualifiers will be placed into one of two Heat races, having to finish in the top 10 in order to even start the main event. Additionally, among all of the drivers who finish outside of the top 10 in either Heat, the fastest qualifier will also start the Feature.

This is one of only three race weekends (the others being MIS and Berlin) where teams are mandated to be at the racetrack for both practice and time trial qualifications the day before the race, in order to give everyone extra time to that is expected to be necessary to prepare their trucks. While this may be helpful for many, it is still going to be crucial for each driver to keep their truck on the track and out of trouble in tomorrow's Heats in order to be able to start the Feature later in the afternoon. As we have already mentioned, however, that is much easier said than done.

Eberhardt Earns Second Nelson Ledges Pole Position
8 July 2016

Time trial qualifying for the AST Voltson Super Trucks race at Nelson Ledges Road Course concluded this evening with Troy, Michigan's Chase Eberhardt topping the charts. The 31-year-old has always been one of the better qualifiers of the series, but considering his racing background at tracks such as Port Huron Dirt Coliseum and Kalamazoo Speedway, he has shown plenty of speed and abilities on the 2-mile road course.

This is the second time that Eberhardt will lead the field to the start for this race, as he also started from the pole at Nelson Ledges in 2014. Having also earned a Pole Award at Flat Rock in 2015, he now has three career poles; one in each season of the Super Trucks. He will be looking to score his second career victory and his first since 2014, when he won at his home racetrack in Kalamazoo.

On the outside of truck #91 will be a driver the likes of whom we rarely see in the Super Trucks; Joel "Jinx" Rodriguez. Rodriguez has become a well-known name in American stock car racing, as he has a substantial amount of experience in the top levels of the sport, having raced in the TM Master Cup Series, TM Lights, FARC Elite Series, and FARC Truck Series over the past several years.

The Puerto Rican will be expanding his team, JINX Racing Development, into the series for the remainder of the season. JRD is the development team for PART organization AJA Racing, and he will be getting its Super Trucks program off the ground by enjoying some recreational racing here at Nelson Ledges while on an off-week from the professional leagues. From Race 5 onward, the truck will be piloted by Adam Ramirez of North Carolina. Ramirez currently races for Rodriguez in the PART SuperTrucks, where he will also continue to race throughout the year.

Eberhardt and Rodriguez now have their starting positions determined, but the remaining 25 trucks will be split into two Heat races. Heat 1 will start 13 trucks while Heat 2 will start 12. The top 10 finishers from each Heat will transfer to the Feature race, and as is standard in the VST, the finishing order will determine each driver's starting position in the Feature. In addition, of the five drivers who initially fail to qualify, the driver with the fastest qualifying time will start the feature from the 23rd position.

Re: AST Voltson Super Trucks

Post by SpeedDemon37 on Sat Jun 18, 2016 7:42 pm

Major Renovations Completed at Winston Speedway
14 July 2016

The first dirt track on the calendar for the AST Voltson Super Trucks in 2016 is the Winston Speedway. Located in Rothbury, Michigan, the 3/8-mile oval has hosted a mid-July race for the series during each of the past two seasons, but with all of the work that has been done to the facility in recent months, it may as well be a brand new track.

Since the Super Trucks last payed a visit to Rothbury, Winston has essentially undergone a complete overhaul. The racing surface has been entirely reconstructed, complete with a new surface of clay. The degree of banking in the corners has increased to become slightly greater than before. In addition, the outside concrete retaining wall that originally existed only on the frontstretch has been extended to encircle the entire racetrack. The track is still 3/8 of a mile in length, and the layout retains its original dimensions.

No longer will the drivers have to climb the banking and follow rough, narrow pathways behind the grandstands to service their trucks. A purpose-built pit area has been added to the outside of the speedway, with an entrance in turn 3, an exit in turn 4, and extended parking space for trailers and haulers. Similarly to the temporary pit area that used to be set up behind the grandstands for the VST race, pit boxes will be situated on either side of pit road.

Several other accommodations have either been added or upgraded throughout the facility, including new floodlights, a new electronic timing and scoring system courtesy of ProLaps, and a new scoreboard, which has been relocated from turns 3 and 4 to turns 1 and 2. The upcoming Super Trucks race will be one of the first events to utilize the new lights, as this year the race moves from late afternoon to nighttime.

All of the renovations that have been made to the speedway will certainly be welcomed by drivers, crews, and spectators, alike. But we have yet to see how the race will turn out with a track surface that hasn't seen Super Trucks action before. Let's hope that it will be as close and competitive as ever!

The 50-lap race begins on Saturday night, following the conclusion of the feature race of the track's Late Model class championship.

Vigo Earns Third Career Pole Award @ Kalamazoo
16 July 2016

Sophomore racer Danny Vigo is trying to play catch-up in the battle for the AST Voltson Super Trucks championship after failing to qualify for the race at Nelson Ledges two weeks ago. The Operation JM driver turned a 17th-place starting position into a 2nd-place finish last week at Winston Speedway, but this week he won't have to work his way to the front, as he will already be there on the start. With a lap time of 13.037 seconds in qualifying, he will be starting from the pole position for the second time this season and the third time in his career.

On the outside of the front row will be rookie Adam Ramirez of North Carolina. The Hickory Motor Speedway driver has never before raced at Kalamazoo but set a lap time quick enough to put him on the outside of the front row. In just its third start, this is the second time that the JINX Racing Development truck #86 will start on the front row; Joel Rodriguez started in 2nd-place at Nelson Ledges, and, of course, led every lap en route to victory in that event.

Kalamazoo regular Chase Eberhardt, who won this race in 2014, was outqualified by Ramirez by 0.005 seconds, and he will start from the pole position in Heat 1. His teammate Outlaw Motorsports, Ronald Way, ranked 4th in qualifying and right behind Eberhardt. Way will lead at the start of Heat 2.

The other two Kalamzoo Speedway racers who will be trying to make the show tonight are Alex DeFranco of Midwest Motors and Lester McPhail of Grade F Racing Team. With respective qualifying ranks of 26th and 29th, neither driver showed much speed during time trials, and both of them will have some work to do if they are going to earn starting spots the race. Each Heat will start 14 trucks, the top 12 of which will transfer to the 26-truck Feature.

New sponsorship heading to Archer Helms courtesy of his younger sister.
"Well, my youngest sister Ally found out about my racing endeavors and she asked was whether or not I need more sponsors then I told her if she knew any sponsors and all she told me was that she knows a few people that could have sponsorship arranged, probably from that girl-scout troop she is in."
It is also rumored that the unspecified sponsor will show up the next time Helms is scheduled to race again.

Quick Earns His First Pole Award of 2016 @ Galesburg
6 August 2016

The AST Voltson Super Trucks returns to one of the smallest tracks on the calendar this week; the quarter-mile Galesburg Speedway, for a pair of 10-lap Heats and what is sure to be an action-packed, 50-lap Feature.

The two-time defending champion of the AST Voltson Super Trucks, 44-year-old Darrell Quick, managed to set a lap time in qualifying 0.008 seconds faster than Camden Rhodes, earning the pole position for the first time this season and the fifth time in his career. It was a very tight qualifying session among the 27 trucks; the top 25 were separated by less than 0.3 seconds, and the entire field by only 0.578.

Wilson Timothy will lead to the start of Heat 1 with a 3rd-place qualifying rank, and 4th-place Michael McKinley will start from the first position in Heat 2. Timothy won the first race of his career last month at Winston Speedway, and McKinley has led approximately 75% of the laps that the series has run in Galesburg, winning the race in 2014. The defending winner of the Super Trucks race at Galesburg, Danny Vigo, ranked 18th overall, significantly further down the order than his Operation JM teammate (but not far off of the pace of the front row starters).

Thirteen trucks will start Heat 1, while 12 trucks will start Heat 2. The top 10 from each Heat will transfer to the Feature, in addition to the fastest time trial qualifier who finishes outside of the transfer zone. Quick and Rhodes will not partake in the Heats, as they have earned the guaranteed starting positions on the front row.

Archer Helms:
Helms disappointed with lackluster run.
When approached after the race, Archer Helms had this to say: "This isn't exactly what I have in store for my lil' sis, but if she and her troop can get their "Paint Scheme Maker Patch" then I an certain they can get their "Automobile Repair Patch". I don't know if that last one was part of her troop but she supposedly states that her troop covers ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!"

Post by SpeedDemon37 on Tue Oct 25, 2016 8:45 pm

I suppose that I should post a quick update, seeing as it has been a couple of months since my most recent post.

The only reason that I have not yet produced the next race review is the fact that I haven't had a free weekend to do so (I cannot create videos with my laptop, which is all that I have while at college; I hope to obtain the means to do so for next year). I'm really excited to make the remaining two reviews and I hope to release them as soon as possible! Information regarding some changes for the 2017 season will be released following the posting of the finale, as well, so stay tuned.

Also, as a reminder, signups for the 2016 Voltson Marne 100 (the season finale at Berlin Raceway) are still open.

Thank you all for your patience! Very Happy

(OOC: Once again, I apologize to everyone for the extensive wait for the next review. I will have the race posted within the next week, most likely on Wednesday. Your patience is appreciated!)

------------------------------

Bennett Earns First Career Pole Award @ Terre Haute
20 August 2016

John Bennett, driver of the #58 Saar, scored the pole position for today's AST Voltson Super Trucks event at Terre Haute Action Track.

It is the first pole that Bennett has earned in his short career in the series. The 61-year-old from Detroit has been racing cars since before many of his competitors were born. He joined the Super Trucks this season with his self-owned team, John Bennett Racing, and immediately made his name known as a force to be reckoned with, scoring his first victory on debut at Michigan International Speedway.

Now, with just two races remaining in the season, Bennett is very much in contention for the championship. He is currently second in the points standings, and was only ten points behind two-time defending champion Darrell Quick before today's pole reduced that lead to five.

On the outside of the front row will be Kathy Gargulak, the 16-year-old Wisconsin racer who is approximately one-quarter Bennett's age. Gargulak is coming off of a top ten finish last week at DuQuoin State Fairgrounds, one of the other dirt tracks that is visited by the Super Trucks.

With their front row starting positions, Bennett and Gargulak are guaranteed starting positions in the event, but they are the lucky two. A total of 32 trucks have arrived at the half-mile dirt track to attempt the race, and three of them will not be starting the Feature following a pair of Heats. The 29-truck starting field will be tied with last week's race at DuQuoin for the largest starting field for the series at a short track, while the 32-truck entry list becomes the largest in series history for a short track. Only this year's Saar Nebraska 100 has ever seen more trucks (33) entered. The impressive car count speaks to the popularity of "the Action Track" among drivers and teams, and the classic Indiana racing venue is just as popular among its thousands of fans.

With a third-place rank in qualifying, Nancy Keith will start from the pole in Heat 1, while rookie Nick Moss will start from the pole in Heat 2 after ranking fourth. Fifteen trucks will start each Heat. The top 13 from each Heat will transfer to the Feature, in addition to the fastest time trial qualifier who finishes outside of the transfer zone. As mentioned earlier, Bennett and Gargulak will not partake in the Heats, as they have earned the guaranteed starting positions on the front row.

Re: AST Voltson Super Trucks

Close Championship Battle Comes Down to Eight Drivers at Berlin
1 September 2016

It's shaping up to be an incredible weekend at Berlin Raceway in Marne, with the AST Voltson Super Trucks returning to the facility to contest the final race of the season and to crown a champion for 2016. This year's title fight is the most highly-contested in the series' short history thus far, with eight drivers mathematically eligible to take home the grand prize at the end of the night. Despite the fact that the race will require heats, all eight of them will be locked into the event and racing each other for the honors.

Darrell Quick, the two-time defending champion, tops the standings heading into the Voltson Marne 100. Quick is of course the winner of last year's edition of the race, and it looks as if the short track veteran is in great position to take home his third consecutive championship trophy.

To say that Quick will have an easy time obtaining title number three, however, is far from the truth. It's a mere twelve points that separate him and Bryan Kelly, the rookie from Illinois who has done an outstanding job in his first full season (not to mention that Kelly finished a close second to Quick last year at Berlin). Despite having yet to win a race, he is tied with Michael McKinley for having the most top 10 finishes in the first nine events of the year. Another rookie holds third; John Bennett of Detroit, the longtime street stocks and modifieds racer who has taken very well to the trucks, having won on debut at Michigan International Speedway.

Michael McKinley enters the race ranked fourth. Despite being the Super Trucks' winningest driver, last year's championship runner-up has been unable to visit victory lane so far this year. However, McKinley won this very race in 2014, and if he's going break the winless streak anywhere, it may as well be where it matters the most.

One of the biggest surprises of the season sits fifth in the form of Kevin Thompson. After a pair of lackluster seasons to begin his Super Trucks career, the 27-year-old has done a full U-turn with his performances and become one of the most consistent drivers in the tour, and achieved his first win at Kalamazoo Speedway. Despite being ranked fifth, he led the standings as recently as Galesburg.

Wilson Timothy, sitting sixth, puts both Binford Racing Team trucks into title contention along with his teammate Kelly. Timothy has improved upon what was a solid rookie season in 2015 with five top fives thus far and his first career victory, coming on the dirt at Winston Speedway.

The third and final rookie in the title hunt is also the first of two teenagers; 18-year-old Camden Rhodes of Indiana. The newest member of the formidable Operation JM team has proven his worth with a number of good runs, including his own first win at DuQuoin State Fairgrounds. He has surprised many by outperforming his teammate Danny Vigo, who won three races last year as well as Rookie of the Year (it should be noted, however, that Vigo has one less start than Rhodes this year, having failed to qualify for the race at Nelson Ledges).

And in eighth, we find the other teenager; 17-year-old Hunter Blaize. Despite attempting a busy double-duty schedule between the Super Trucks and the BAAR Super Pro Series (a series in which he is a former champion), the Ohioan has had another impressive campaign this year, having gained 45 points over the past three races to put himself into title contention for the first time in his career. He has always been one of the series' most dependable drivers, but after three years and 28 starts, he has yet to earn his first win.

In order to achieve the title, Kelly must beat Quick on-track by at least seven positions, unless Kelly scores the victory. The other drivers, if they don’t manage to win, will have to rely on Quick having at best a mediocre performance, as third-in-points John Bennett, for example, would need to beat Quick on-track by 13 positions in a 21-truck field. The odds are stacked especially against both Rhodes and Blaize, as the two teenagers cannot earn the title without winning the race, and even then, they will still need Quick to finish towards the rear of the field.

And of course, this is without consider the possibility of bonus points, which – whether earned through the Pole Award, leading the most laps, or making up the most positions from the start – could remove up to 10 points and 5 on-track positions from any of their deficits.

Each of the eight hopefuls for the title have performed exceptionally all season in order to put themselves into contention, but only one of them will be crowned champion at the end of the night. Whoever that driver may be, we are sure to be treated to some of the most exciting short track racing that the series has to offer on Saturday night!

Re: AST Voltson Super Trucks

Post by SpeedDemon37 on Sun Jan 01, 2017 9:36 pm

2016 Voltson Marne 100 - Qualifying Format:
There are 31 trucks entered in the race, but only 21 will take the start. Here is how the starting lineup for the Feature will be determined:

--- Following time trial qualifying, the two fastest drivers will be locked into the race, and guaranteed front row starting positions.
--- Of the remaining 29 drivers, the 15 whose qualifying rank is an odd number will make up the starting grid for Heat 1. The 14 drivers whose qualifying rank is an even number will make up the starting grid for Heat 2. The top 9 finishers from each Heat transfer to the Feature, and will start in order of their Heat results (inside row for Heat 1, outside row for Heat 2).
--- Of the eleven drivers who fail to finish in the top 9, the driver with the fastest time trial qualifying time will transfer to the Feature and start from the 21st position.
--- All eight championship title contenders (#6, #58, #61, #62, #71, #82, #90, and #99M) will transfer to the feature regardless of their Heat results. Drivers who would have started at the rear of the field (beginning with the driver who would have started from 21st) will be bumped out according to the number of contenders who initially DNQ.

The only points that will be awarded before the Feature race begins are the standard 5 points that the winner of the pole award will earn.

------------------------------

Blaize Outruns Quick; Earns Second Career Pole for High-Stakes Finale @ Berlin
2 September 2016

Victory lane has proved to be allusive for Hunter Blaize in his three seasons of AST Voltson Super Trucks competition. The young short-tracker from Ohio joined the series in 2014 after winning the championship title in the BAAR Super Pro Series the year before. But despite numerous good runs, he has thus far not been able to win a race.

This however, may very well change tomorrow night, and for Blaize, it must change if he is to have a chance at winning the championship.

Leaving Terre Haute with a daunting 57-point deficit to the championship-leader Darrell Quick, a series title for Blaize would be difficult to attain. But the Gravity Racing, Inc. driver has made the challenge a little easier for himself by earning the Pole Award in time trial qualifying for the Voltson Marne 100. This earns Blaize five valuable bonus points, and guarantees him the first starting position in the race.

The driver who will be starting on the outside-front row - the driver who he narrowly beat for the pole - happens to be the very last person who Blaize would have wanted on the pole; Darrell Quick.

Having outpaced the #82 truck by 0.08 seconds, Blaize has saved himself and all of his fellow points contenders from losing another five markers to Quick. Needless to say, the 17-year-old still has plenty of work to do; aside from holding off twenty other trucks to score the win, he must also rely on a poor finish from Quick and most of their other rivals in order to pull off the ultimate upset. Considering these circumstances, however, he is off to the best start that he can be.

John Bennett and Daynella Jacobson will start from the pole in the two Heats after ranking third and fourth, respectively, in time trials. Bennett, of course, is one of Quick's closer title rivals (ranked third in the championship), and the short track veteran could very well take home the grand prize in his very first season. Jacobson is not contending for the title, but is looking to end the year on a high note after an improved season from 2015. After failing to qualify for this race last year, the Auto City Speedway driver came less than one-tenth of a second from the Pole.

The other title contenders, Bryan Kelly (Quick's closest rival at only 12 markers behind), Michael McKinley, Kevin Thompson, Wilson Timothy, and Camden Rhodes, were ranked 19th, 15th, 7th, 22nd, and 6th of the astounding 31 trucks entered for the event. Nearly one-third of the field will fail to qualify, but the six championship contenders who will partake in the Heats will start the Feature without regard to their finish. Should this occur, the starting order for the Feature will be determined according to the rules of a regular race weekend before anyone is bumped out. Otherwise, the standard over-capacity qualifying rules for a race weekend apply.

The Super Trucks action begins with the first Heat on Saturday at sunset to kick off the night of racing!

Re: AST Voltson Super Trucks

Post by SpeedDemon37 on Tue Jan 10, 2017 11:33 pm

Race 10 Press Release:
Quick Earns Fifth Race Victory and Third Championship Title
4 September 2016

After a thrilling 100-lap feature to conclude the 2016 AST Voltson Super Trucks season, Darrell Quick was crowned champion of the series for the third year in a row.

The season-ending Voltson Marne 100 at Berlin Raceway came down to the sixth and final restart on lap 99, in which Quick led over championship rival Michael McKinley and part-time racer Riley Durbin. Truck #82 managed to keep the #99M at bay and win the race for the second consecutive year. Despite being a favorite for the win, Quick was by no means dominant. He had only managed to take the lead with 12 laps to go from Hunter Blaize, who until that point had led all but one lap from the pole. Quick kept hot on the heels of the #71 truck for nearly the entire race before making a move off of turn 4 on lap 88 that would develop into what became the winning pass.

Coming home in the runner-up position, McKinley would end the season ranked third in the championship, a mere four points behind Bryan Kelly, who finished the race in sixth and in doing so earned himself the Rookie of the Year award. Riley Durbin defended against late challenges from Ronald Way and John Bennett to finish the race in third.

Blaize, after leading enough laps in one night to achieve the most laps lead of any driver for the entire season, was involved in a crash with eight laps to go while battling for third. The 17-year-old, who will be moving up to the FARC Lowe Dollar Series next season for Gravity Racing, Inc., finished the race in a disappointing sixteenth.

Quick, the 45-year-old driver from Lansing, Michigan has spent the better part of the past quarter-century racing at countless bullrings across Michigan, winning dozens of races in the various late model championships of different facilities. Him and his self-owned team, Too Quick Motorsports, joined the Super Trucks for its premier season in 2014, and won the series' very first race. After three seasons of competition for the premier pickup truck racing division of American Short Trackers, the #82 has yet to be defeated in the championship.

Speaking from the stage set up on the frontstretch after the race, Quick thanked the fans for supporting their local race tracks, his competitors for providing him with fierce competition all season long, and his team for putting in all of the work necessary to allow him to race.

In winning the finale, Quick also became the first and only driver all season to win multiple races. Statistically, 2016 was the most competitive year thus far of the Super Trucks, with nine drivers standing atop the podium over the course of just ten races, and with eight of the nineteen drivers who attempted the entire season in contention for the championship entering the final race.

With the third edition of the AST Voltson Super Trucks having come to a close, many of its competitors, drivers and teams alike, will return to their local short tracks to compete for a few more weeks until the end of the racing season. The series will return to action next Memorial Day weekend at Michigan International Speedway, where the 4th running of the Saar Nebraska 100 will officially kick off the 2017 season.

Signups for the 2017 season are officially open! I have edited the original post to reflect the changes that have been made.

Once again, you will need to post a signup sheet for any entries that you wish to make, and you can consider them accepted only if I add them to the TMpedia chart. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SIGNUP SHEET HAS BEEN MODIFIED. If you copy/paste your past entry form from previous years, you will be missing a couple of new items that need to be filled out.

Here is the link to the TMpedia page for the 2017 season: http://tmpedia.shoutwiki.com/wiki/2017_AST_Voltson_Super_Trucks_season

The ratings system has been changed from the one that I used for the previous three years to one that is essentially identical to the one that Ceej created for use in FARC in 2017. A link to a Google Doc with the ratings package can be found in the original post.

Full-time signups will remain open until Friday, the 10th of February. Part-time signups will be open throughout the year for all of the races that have yet to be run. Car or paint files for accepted entries that will be competing in either of the first two races of the season will be due, once again, by Friday, the 10th of February.

As long as I have added your team to the TMpedia chart, you may send your things in! Very Happy

I have forgotten to mention that you may only pick one ratings class for Team Ratings; trucks that are on the same team will not be allowed to have different car ratings than their teammate's cars. I apologize for failing to clarify this in the original post.

Also, a reminder that the preliminary deadline for the submission of car files is this Friday, the 10th. However, I am still anticipating some entries that I know will be posted in the near future, so if I do not have every truck by the deadline then I will have no problem with extending it!

Entries #40, #62, #80, #99m, #94, #95, and #97 can all be considered to be accepted.

Dexter, I will swap the numbers on the trucks for Cortez and DeFranco, and since I painted the other two Midwest Motors trucks, I will also do the #97; just let me know what you want the truck to look like.

At this point, all that I need are suggestions as to what the #97 truck should look like. The car file for the #07 will not be needed until race 4.

There are a number of entries from last year that have not been re-entered. If the owners of said entries wish for them to return, then all you need to do is fill out the signup sheet and you'll be good to go! Cars from last year that can still be re-entered include:

- #6 (navycook75)
- #58 (bsoyuz)
- #61 (navycook75)
- #71 (PackerMan71) (I know that this entry is not scheduled to return)
- #74 (bsoyuz)
- #87 (navycook75)
- #96 (kwascher97)
- #404 (CaptainGetz)

John White and Kevin Thompson to Merge Respective Self-Owned Teams

AST Voltson Super Trucks racers John White and Kevin Thompson will merge their self-owned, single-truck operations for the upcoming season of competition in the V6 pickup truck league.

Citing funding as the primary factor in the decision, it was announced that Thompson's Backfire Motorsports will be absorbed into White's Bullring Motorsports during the spring and in time for the Saar Nebraska 100. White will obtain ownership of the new team and keep the Bullring name.

Each driver has entered every race in the series since it began in 2014. White contended for the championship that same year while Thompson was one of the eight contenders for last year's title, and this will be the first season in which either driver will not contest the full schedule.

White suggested that Thompson had gotten himself into debt through purchasing new equipment for the #90 truck over the course of the past two seasons. While the investments helped Thompson to achieve considerably improved results in 2016 (including a victory at Kalamazoo Speedway), he has not been able to repay them. As for White, himself, the lack of sponsorship for the #06 truck last year, combined with unexpectedly poor on-track performances throughout the summer, has "tightened the budget considerably." While White still has no primary sponsor at the time of this report, it is known that Gaskin's Gaskets will continue to provide Thompson with funding.

The #06 truck will be racing at Flat Rock and Toledo, while the #90 will race at Kalamazoo and Galesburg. Both trucks are entered together for the race at MIS, and will also be competing together at Berlin Raceway in September.

White at age 27 and Thompson at age 28 are longtime friends who began racing together at Port Huron Dirt Coliseum as teenagers. They are notorious for racing each other very aggressively, and their on-track antics have gotten them into trouble numerous times in the past. They have both managed, however, to race each other considerably cleaner during their three-full seasons of the Voltson Super Trucks.

I actually had a generic scheme ready to go just in case, but no worries; I'll get that black truck made!

I should probably post an update seeing as it's been a while since my last post. As is probably obvious, the past several weeks were a little too busy between schoolwork and track meets for me to get started as I had hoped to do (but the semester is coming to a close, so soon enough I'll have a lot more time to run the league)! Everything for the 2017 season is just about ready to go, and I'll be running the first races by the end of the weekend. I appreciate your patience in waiting for the season to begin!

Anderson Earns the Pole for Season-Opening Race @ MIS
26 May 2017

This year, a hometown hero will lead a record-field of trucks to the start of the biggest “short track race" in the Midwest.

The AST Voltson Super Trucks makes its fourth visit to the mighty Michigan International Speedway this week to kick off another summer of racing in what has become one of the Midwest's most unique short track racing championships. The diverse field of drivers and teams that have made their way to the Irish Hills for the Saar Nebraska 100 is the largest on record. But despite this, it was a local hobby racer who managed to outdo his more experienced competitors and set the fastest lap in time trial qualifying earlier today.

Ron Anderson is a 23-year-old fabricator from the small village of Onsted, immediately southeast of the speedway. Over the past six years, he has partaken in a limited number of races during his spare time with the help of family and friends. Interestingly, he is one of the only racers in the garage this week who had ever driven at MIS before the Super Trucks paid their first visit in 2014, but that limited experience was essentially useless today as he has only ever driven in club races on the infield road course layout. Apart from that, he has also competed in a handful of street stocks events at Berlin Raceway, as well as the Super Trucks races at MIS and Berlin in each of the past three seasons.

Despite the sparsity of his appearances behind the wheel of a racecar, Anderson’s rare starts in the Voltson Super Trucks have brought some impressive results, including a third-place finish in the 2014 edition of the race. This year the distinctive purple #333 Lycoia has been faster than ever, earning the Pole Award with a lap time of 37.888 seconds. He was the only driver to set a lap time under 38 seconds.

Anderson could hardly have picked a better race to earn the Pole. An astounding 43 trucks are attempting the event this year, and for the first time in the race’s short history, Heats will have to be utilized to reduce that number down to 40; the series-mandated maximum number of trucks that are allowed to start any Feature race (although no other venue on the schedule is capable of accommodating a field this large).

New to the series this year is a rule which states that only the races at MIS, Nelson Ledges, and Berlin will utilize Heats if necessary, with DNQs at all other venues determined by time trials, alone. In addition, with the new points system implemented for the 2017 season awarding points to the top three qualifiers, the drivers exempted from Heats based on time trials now includes the third-to-fastest, in addition to the front row.

Starting alongside Anderson in the Feature race will be 20-year-old Archer Helms, who will be making his first ever start at the big speedway. Helms will be contesting the full schedule after a part-time effort in 2016, and in addition to his Voltson Super Trucks races, he will also be making a limited number of starts in the FARC Lowe Dollar Series for the Freya and Saito Group. Third on the boards is 2014 MIS runner-up Mary Brissot, who, at the age of 60, is still looking for her first victory in the series.

Fifth-to-fastest qualifier Rachel Kowalczyk will lead the field to the start of Heat 1, with Amberly Weiss, who has brought another strong car to MIS this year, starting on the outside of the Canadian. Fourth-to-fastest qualifier Grant Edwards will lead to the start of Heat 2 with fellow rookie Scott Madigan on his outside. Edwards is one of three drivers in the field competing for the distant Oklahoma City-based operation EF5 Motorsports. Neither EF5 nor its drivers have ever competed in the series, but they have all come out of the gate strong by placing all three of their Saars in the top 10 in qualifying.

John Bennett, the defending winner of the race, will start from the 11th position in Heat 1. 2015 winner Jason Miller and 2014 winner Darrell Quick are both in Heat 2, and will start from positions 11 and 5, respectively. Michael McKinley, who earned the Pole Award at this track in each of the previous two seasons, ranked 16th this year and will start Heat 2 from 7th-place.

The action begins tomorrow afternoon with the two Heat races, followed shortly thereafter by a brief intermission and finally the drop of the green flag for the main event.
