- Spoiler:
- Delgado Rallies for Points After Dust-up With Divina
Tom Delgado started the 2013 Round of Decatur in 34th position, and despite getting hooked by Divina Henton for 14th, he managed to grind out a 17th place finish, showing that the four-division race winner still has enough talent to compete with the big boys despite suspect equipment. The words from him after getting hooked by Henton were not very respectful, but he probably had a right to be angry. "<censored> donkey <censored> by the 11. There was plenty of room to make a pass! You believe what that idiot did?" Delgado said to his crew chief. After the race though, Delgado was all smiles and apparently willing to forgive Henton for the incident.
"She didn't finish the job, so it's okay. She allowed me to continue so I was able to put my grinding ability to work" Delgado said of the incident and the fact that he was able to continue without too much trouble. "After the incident, we had some damage to fix, but the Ocean boys did a very good job of getting me back out there on the lead lap and we were able to maintain enough speed to stay there. I honestly have to thank Ocean Motorsports for everything in 2013, it's been an honor to come back to the team where it all began for me as an immature early-30's drug & drink addict. I'm glad I was able to do some good things for them in ASCC and in this race" Delgado said, once again lamenting his past.
When asked about his 2014 and beyond, Delgado was very coy about his plans, simply saying "I'll say goodbye for now, but don't you cry! I'll be back again someday", paraphrasing the great Frosty the Snowman.

Re: Race 22: Round of Decatur
Plissken Avoids DNF Record
Why was Kurt Plissken so adamant about making it into the 2013 Round of Decatur when he had so much to lose? Plissken was one DNF away from eclipsing Stephanie McGlynn in the record books for the all-time record (meaning, since 07) of most DNFs in a season. Plissken could have simply failed to qualify and avoided the unwanted distinction altogether. Instead, he went ballistic on a couple of expletive laden tirades both before and after his successful qualifying efforts. This behavior out of the normally placid Plissken had many in the paddock scratching their heads in wonderment.
Now it should be clear to all that Plissken wanted to face the challenge head on as he fought hard to get into the race and went out and competed and didn't just fail to qualify to save himself from the undesirable milestone. His already tarnished reputation could have probably sustained another such hit, but it was in his desire to not avoid the situation, that Plissken should not only be commended, but also admired. Kurt Plissken being admired?! What is the world coming to?!
"I didn't punk out like some of the others around here would have," stated Plissken.
It seemed that the special patriotic schemes being run on the #16 and #41 Lycoia Interceptors of both Plissken and Greg Woodard for the Decatur race was paying dividends as both of the PSI teammates were fast and moving up through the field. Woodard was then involved with Chris Davenport in a minor incident and he was never a factor for the remainder of the race. Woodard garnered a 20th place finish.
Plissken, on the other hand, was making some headway and was keeping the race leaders in sight when suddenly the #22 car of Peter Short squeezed into the #2 Aperture Science car of Packer Carroll. Caroll, making his final start for Volpi Racing Team, then preformed some spectacular aerial auto gymnastics which ended with the cars of Plissken and the #12 car of Swiss sophomore Mélanie Clévenot crumpled on the track. Clévenot was ironically making her final appearance for Lynxe Racing before heading off to the Hodges-Walter Racing squad for the 2014 campaign.
It was then that Plissken displayed the most moxie when he soldiered on when he could have simply quit and just accepted the unwanted DNF distinction. Plissken managed to make it to the end of the race thereby avoiding the whole ugly mess-- but it took a Herculean effort on the part of everyone involved at PSI. He was several laps down, but he did finish!
In an odd quirk of circumstances, Plissken managed to finish 13th in the overall points despite his DNF woes-- 382 points behind eventual championship winner
