2014 British Grand Prix
The 2014 Formula One Season is now almost halfway through, as our next stop is at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix. Last year brought some controversy into the race as a certain kerb on the track was causing problems for the tyres. 4 drivers suffered tire blowouts during the race such as Lewis Hamilton, Felipe Massa, Jean-Eric Vergne, and Sergio Perez. The race was ultimately won by Mercedes' Nico Rosberg, who currently leads the championship by 29 points ahead of his teammate Hamilton. After the troubles last years race, hopefully now it won't happen again on Sunday.

It won't. Pirelli have had enough of being bitched at for doing what they were told to do in the first place, and bringing regular old race tyres that are much harder than in previous years.

I like Monza, one of my favorite tracks of all-time (Thanks GT5)
It's a shame it's going to be left off the schedule

Re: 2014 British Grand Prix
Taking Monza off the schedule is F1's equivalent to when Nascar took the Southern 500 away. Ecclestone will get major backlash if he does it.

Re: 2014 British Grand Prix
It was bad enough when F1 took the French GP and almost the British GP off the schedule. But this...this is taking it a little too far.

Just keep in mind that this is the same person who couldn't figure out how get though a revolving door.
It's chances of getting off the schedule is the same as New Jersey staying on the schedule.

From what I hear the team may eventually be renamed "Forza Rossa", a Romanian Ferrari and Lotus importer that is backing the effort (as well as the Lotus P1 car if I'm not mistaken).

Also, the FIA has warned drivers that they will be more strict and will have no tolerance whatsoever about them running wide and gaining an advantage during a qualifying run. If this happens, like with a driver's during Qualifying in Austria, they will be immediately stripped of their lap if they do so.

Re: 2014 British Grand Prix
Both the Williams', both the Ferrari's and both the Caterham's knocked out of Q1.
Re: 2014 British Grand Prix
Well, Hamilton choked at the end of Q3, and Rosberg took the pole from Vettel at the death. Button and Hulkenberg make up Row 2, then Magnussen and Hamilton.
Also, reports are now coming through saying Lotus and Mercedes have agreed to an engine deal for next year.

Re: 2014 British Grand Prix
Maldolan didn't have enough fuel in his car after qualifying, so his 15th-place effort goes for naught. He'll start 20th.

Re: 2014 British Grand Prix
A few notes after Qualifying:
Both Caterham's allowed to race despite failing to make the 107% cut-off, Max Chilton gets a 5-place grid penalty after a Gearbox Change following Practice 3, and as Ryan said, Pastor Maldonado gets dumped back to 20th for not having enough fuel in his car for qualifying.

Kimi just had a big wreck on the first lap collecting Massa as well. Red flag with safety car restart afterwards.

Glad Raikkonen's okay, that crash scared me a lot. If that happened at least 15 to 20 years ago, he would've been seriously hurt or dead.

Also, I think Alonso needs to wear nappies for the next race in case he cries again.
Re: 2014 British Grand Prix
Indeed he should have done. This is why drivers conduct a track walk on the Wednesday of every grand prix.conrail1990 wrote:Because Kimi totally knew they was a drainage ditch buried on the grass...Mother of Invention wrote:I guess you could say *Puts on shades* Kimi didn't know what he was doing.

I don't think many drivers look at what's off track, especially that far down a straight away.Milan655 wrote:Indeed he should have done. Re: 2014 British Grand Prix
The smart ones certainly do - I've seen clips of drivers kneeling down next to the track limits to inspect the edge of the track for height changes in rumble strips and so on. Sometimes the height difference, instead of causing spins and so on, rub off on the sidewall of the tyre and can cause a slow puncture, depending on the construction of the run-off.Spannerhead29 (Nelson) wrote:I don't think many drivers look at what's off track, especially that far down a straight away.Milan655 wrote:Indeed he should have done. The best drivers are aware of these things, the lazy ones who don't check get punished for it. Just look at Kimi at Interlagos 2012 - he didn't know the escape road at the second-to-last turn was closed off, because his information was old. It was open in previous years but not in 2012, and he hadn't elected to check, whereas others had, and those drivers elected to turn back around on the grass when making similar mistakes to Kimi at that turn.
