Talladega Pre-Race Thread
New surface at Talladega, speeds increased.
After the Patriot 200, the Talladega Superspeedway track owners decide to repave the track. With this move the tires are worning quickier than usual, enduring only between 8 to 20 laps, something really different from the 30 to 40 laps that were averaged earlier in the year.
Also the speeds were increased from 195 to 230~240 miles per hour, due to that the ASCC officials decide to add sandtraps at some sections of the track, trying to slow down the cars. This measure seemingly worked, as Tony Durbin and Harry Raynor tangled in the morning practice twice, being the latter time almost ending in an giant wreck. As both got together exiting turn 4, as result of that both gone spinning around , going to the direction of the inside wall. The sandtrap stopped them.
The drafting was also small, and the field is predicted to spread out in the early stages of the race, with groups from 2 to 8 cars driving away from a 10 car pack.
Chase starts this week.12 drivers have a shot.
#38 - MIKE WHITMORE - OCEAN MOTORSPORTS
Mike Whitmore was the only driver to win 2 races, with that he already jumps to the front, having 2020 points over the rest of the championship contenders. He doesn't finished a lot of races, so it's not expected that he holds up his lead.
#09 - MICHAEL HUMPHREYS - JAMES DALTON RACING
James Dalton must be a genius by signing with Michael Humphreys, a rookie that nobody expected to do anything, but he did. After winning the Texas 500 in his first ASCC start and running up front consistently, he's one of the major contenders for the title.
#24 - NIKKI CURTIS - TEAM SAAR USA
I don't know if some people expected that Nikki would be a contender. If one year ago you said to me that se would be a winning driver with a shot at the title, I would just called you crazy. But only one word defines Curtis's season: Consistency, as she only finished 2 races outside of the top 10. Las Vegas and Kansas, and both times weren't her fault at all.
#39 - ETHAN EVERETT - OCEAN MOTORSPORTS
Ethan has shown his speed at the fast paced ovals, and this speed is shown up by his victory at Talladega. He can be one of the major names in the title hunt if he sweeps the two Talladega races of the season.
#12 - GARTH MCCALLISTER, JR. - TEAM SAAR USA
Peter Keyes has to be another smart mind in the sport. After merging his operation with McCallister Sr.'s one, he kept Jr., one of the most wise decisions of all, as Junior won at Phoenix after recovering from being lapped and working his way up front. McCallister is one of the names for the Wrangler Cup Series, and this can be his title.
#31 - BILL CALHOUN - TEAM SAAR USA
This is one of the unsurprinsing contenders, as he ran strong all year long. Check for him, he can be really fast.
#21 - PALMER STILES - PALMER STILES RACING
If his teammate Harry Raynor didn't missed the chase by 2 points, it would be perfect season for Stiles, a he and Harry were consistent all year long, you can expect a victory from any of them.
#37 - TOM DELGADO - OCEAN MOTORSPORTS
Tom Delgado is the last of the Ocean cars, his consistency was destroyed by the unreliability of his car. He still has a realistic shot for the title, but the Ocean crew needs to get their act together, quick. Being in his last full-time season with the team that he started racing for, a title would be a spetacular thing to watch.
#79 - CADE TAYLOR - STEVE HOLIDAY RACING
Even though he's a backmarker, he capitalized on his opponents epic failures, as he overcame a lick in the fence to lead a few laps at Vegas . Only retired two times this season and was already locked into the chase when we left Daytona. If he wasn't with a weaker car than the others, I would say that he would be locked with the title already.
#06 - CHUCK BLOOMERS - JAMES DALTON RACING
He wasn't the best guy to his teammates at Daytona and Phoenix, but he's surely fast. We can expect big things coming from him.
#16 - BILLY BOB CHILDERS - POWER SURGE AMERICA
I don't know how Childers ended in the bubble, as he finished all races in 2013. If he got a win, his season would be the best of the whole field.
#46 - FRANK AZURE - TEAM SAAR USA
He's showing what he can do with a funded car. Even though he was the last from the 4 Team Saar USA drivers, he shows up as a driver with the capacity of making strong runs, always. Most of the times his retirements are due to a external force, if he doesn't crash or the Saar engines doesn't expire, he is on his way to win a race.

Scott, Stevens Withdraw Following Morning Practice; Scott Leaving ASCC
Following opening practice at Talladega, ASCC rookies Richard Scott and Ken Stevens, Jr. have announced they will not participate in the opening race of the Chase.
Both Scott and Stevens, Jr. cited safety concerns with the newly revamped track's high speeds. Stevens is expected to return for the next race, but Scott stated that he is looking to focus on finishing his ARLA campaign after a disappointing ASCC debut. There is no report yet on who will replace him in the Greg Whittaker Racing #80, or Stevens in Trinity Motorsports' #5.

Does this mean that Talladega Eyjix is now canon?
Because that's a fantastic idea.

In the reality, I just finished running the race. It was surprinsingly exciting and calm, (not the everybody crashes meaning ,you're all watching in the video), and also, I had to reinstall all tracks that I had, and this was the only Talladega remaining (I lost half of the things that were in my hard drive, ), you can see the amount of fail.

Humpfreys looking to break out once again.
The Texas 500 winner, in his first race, comes in the chase second in points. After a amazing debut season for the Connecticut native, Humpfreys looks to win the title for James Dalton Racing.
Humpfreys : Well, we seriously have a shot at this title, and hopefully we get really good runs in for the next 4 weeks, Dega & Daytona are really good tracks for me, Charlotte and Atlanta are like Texas where I celebrated my win, i'm really happy to be here and be a contender.
Taylor's success story to continue?
The driver of the 79 for Steve Holiday Racing, has decided to move on from ASCC along with TMMC after 2013, going to search a career in FARC, but, Cade is still thinking big.
Taylor : For a small team like SHR, it's really good for there future in this sport, we may not have the tech, but as long as we're consistent, we have a good chance as anyone in this chase. I may be leaving after this year, but i want to help SHR as much as I can before leaving.
Holiday searching for 2014 drivers.
The team owner of SHR, also a competitor in TM Lights, is currently searching for his 2014 lineup. Cade Taylor is not returning, for now, and Holiday expects to let go Silverman after this year due to lack of results. This will leave 2 average cars open for next year.
Holiday Jr : Right now, Taylor is our main focus, due to his success and being in the chase, Silverman will not return, but I wish him good luck in his future endeavors. I've been looking for their replacements, hopefully our success brings us some good sponsors and maybe some veteran drivers to our team.

New compound brought by Goodyear may decrease speeds. Sandtraps taken out from the track
Few hours after the close call between Harry Raynor and Tony Durbin, Goodyear and ASCC officials had a lenghtly discussion between them, and by the Friday night, few hours after the second practice session, a few trucks that came from the Goodyear headquarters brought new sets of tires. This new tire compound decreased the speeds from 235 mph to 205 mph.
With the overly decreased speeds, the Talladega Superspeedway owners taken out the sandtraps that were placed in the backstrecht and in the exit of the turns.
With the recent happenings, the qualifying will be taking place at Sunday morning, as the Saturday was dedicated to the testing of the new compound.
(OOC: Thank you Frank.)
Tom Delgado takes out pole position. 7 of the 12 chase contenders are in the first top 10 positions.
^Just the headline. I got too lazy to write a whole article.

Timing mishap puts Chuck Bloomers on Pole Position, Tom Delgado is kept on front row
After the qualifying for the Hero 200, Tom Delgado got the pole, but 10 minutes later a timing mishap meant that Delgado wasn't on the pole position. He in the reality would start on the outside of the front row. Chuck Bloomers in the #06 is the true pole position of the race.
This timing mishap happened in the first five rows of the starting grid. The truly starting order in the first five rows is:
P # DRIVER
1 06 C Bloomers -R-
2 37 T Delgado
3 09 M Humfreys -R-
4 46 F Azure
5 39 E Everett
6 00 B Morris -R-
7 18 J Kidd
8 33 T Durbin
9 12 G McCallister, Jr
10 16 B Childers

Re: Talladega Pre-Race Thread
Delgado Blasts Officials, Declares War on Competition
When informed that his pole was going to be taken away from him, Tom Delgado reacted the way he normally reacts. He punched a wall in the garage so hard that it cracked. Then he found anyone who would listen and fired a verbal nuke at the officials for their "timing mishap" while declaring war on the rest of the field.
"Heaven forbid that I'm able to have any kind of success anywhere without the series officials trying to screw me over" Delgado said. "Until you knew your timing and scoring were 100% right, you should have NEVER sent cars out on track. These goddamn idiots can't even officiate their own series properly. Now you've done one thing that the other competitors try their hardest NOT to do. Now you've made me very angry, and now it's on. Full-on warfare, tactical nukes in the form of me kicking everyone's ass on the track. I needed an excuse to get intense, and now I have it. Be afraid, be VERY afraid" Delgado continued, seemingly in a trance-like state as he spoke.
