The 2014 Indy 500
For a racing fan The month of May is like the holiday season or the homecoming dance at your high school. Whether it be Nascar's Charlotte festivities or F1's seaside fun at Monaco. But for one form of motorsport the month of May means more to them then any other sport could even dream to look at, We're talking about American Open Wheel's month of speed in Central Indiana that in just a single century has become the biggest automobile race in history. We're talking about Indy.
IT'S TIME AGAIN BOYS! After a race last year that kind only be described as breathtaking with absolute awesome racing and a winner that finally became a bride after a decade of being the bridesmaid, Indycar returns to Indy for looks to be another exciting month of Open Wheel racing.
The biggest topics being some of the outsiders. After a decade of racing several different series including F1 and Nascar, Juan Montoya has returned to Indy for the first time since his 2000 win at the track...Can Montoya keep the perfect record with potential favorites Penske or will a 14 year absence be his fall. Another driving making his return after an long absence is Former F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve running his first race in almost 20 years at Indy where he last won the 1995 edition of the race...In the later stages of his career can Villeneuve prove that age and away time doesn't matter with another potential winning team in Schmidt Peterson Motorsport or will he fall to these younger lions of Open Wheel racing. Another topic of discussion among American racing fans has been the battle of the homecomings between Indy and Nascar's longest race at its home turf of Charlotte, North Carolina, that battle has had drivers from both series trying to take a shot at being the absolute outsider to win in a form of racing they aren't used...More commonly known as "The Double." In the last decade the drivers that have attempted double duty has been little to none as changes in race time has forced drivers to stick to one race, but with a recent change in times it has once again opened the gate for someone to pull the double...and now for the first time in over 10 years a Nascar boy is jumping into the Indycar fray! That man being 2004 Sprint Cup champion and frontrunner with the Stewart-Hass Racing team Kurt Busch...Will Kurt's teaming up with a famous name among Indy's history Andretti Autosport lead him to victory and a chance of doing what nobody has none done before him and winning both races in one sitting or will being the outsider lead to his ultimate downfall
But these three will have to face the ultimate challenge in 30 of Indycar's best drivers coming from many different backgrounds and many different stories behind them. Can Kannan repeat? Will the strong horses of Penske and Ganassi take the 500 for their own? Or can someone from out of no where pull off the shocker at Indianapolis! May is here and it's time to write another chapter in the story that is THE INDY 500!
Here is your men and women attempting to take this year's Indy 500 crown. (Per Indycar.com and the IMS Website)

I'm just wondering how the Lights series is going to top their finish from a year ago.

AND I'M GONNA BE THERE, BABY! TURN 4! My first ever IndyCar event and only my second time attending any major auto race (the first being the 2005 Aaron's 499).

Yes, let us all celebrate the greatest race of the entire month of May, the 2008 Sprint All Star Race!
Can Kasey Kahne be the first ever driver to get the Sprint Nextel Fan Vote and win for the seventh year in a row? I look forward to it every year!!!

Just because a race ends under caution doesn't mean it wasn't great. Last year's 500 ended under yellow and, in my opinion, it was one of the greatest races of all time.

To be fair despite the last 4 years ending under yellow, it has came down to a dramatic conclusion every time.

Re: The 2014 Indy 500
Well, here comes my very favorite day of the year. I will be in my family's yearly seats by the start/finish line once again. I hope this race is as fantastic as the last few have been and possibly get another new winner.
Anyways, a few of my inside sources around the area and a few articles have popped up that have mentioned Katherine Legge jumping in a ride by the weekend. The most common speculation is a third Foyt car. Also, Viso has been in for Hinchcliffe the last few days. It will be interesting to see if Viso can patch something together with his money once Hinch gets better.

And we have our first 500-related incident, folks, as Jack Hawksworth smacks the outside wall in today's practice session. Fortunately, Hawksworth was uninjured.

In another Photo finish Gabby Chavez beats out Matt Brabham for the win by 6 inches
There was also a very scary wreck during the race as Chase Austin pounded the wall off of Turn 1 and split the car in half. He's is awake and alert but has a broken wrist.

Yet another awesome finish in the Freedom 100.
Good to see that Chase is alright after that. That was one of the worst possible parts of the track to hit the wall at.

I don't see how this was blatant. There were tires there, he just hit at such a precise angle that he missed them. Sometimes people get hurt, no need to take up arms over it.
