2014 Coca-Cola 600
It's the longest race of the year for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the final race of the Memorial Day super weekend. Last year saw a mediocre race, compounded by the failure of cables for FOX's flying camera, which fell on the track, damaging cars. Hopefully the race will be better this year, without any more bizarre incidents.
As we all know, Kurt Busch will be the first driver since Robby Gordon in 2004 to run both the Indy 500 and the Coke 600. He'll have an uphill battle at Charlotte, as he starts 28th. Parker Kligerman is on standby for the 41 team.
Jimmie Johnson is on the pole, with Brad Keselowski on his outside. Danica Patrick will start 4th, her best ever start on an unrestricted track.

If she won, and if Kurt won the 500...Maybe Tony Stewart will explode, leaking all of his goo to reveal he's just Rick Mears in a fat suit.

If she would somehow win, oh god, we'd never hear the end of it. It'd be like Paul Heyman crowing about the streak

Jeff Gordon was taken out of the car in practice due to back pains.

He felt these pains all the weekend, I saw this in his Facebook page. Hope that he doesn't have any issue that may sideline him.

Re: 2014 Coca-Cola 600
Well, we're 100 laps in, and the race has been kind of... well, snooze inducing, to say the least.
Exactly what I was afraid of.
And we just had a debris yellow. What a surprise.

Once again, the 600 so far looks like a joke compared to the Indianapolis 500!

Re: 2014 Coca-Cola 600
I'm watching the race from the front stretch as I speak. Idk if you guys have seen any replays buy Kurt really got screwed by Matt Kenseth from literally driving across pit road and into Kurt for no reason at all. One person using a scanner said it bent up the LR shock and it pretty much went downhill from there. I really hate it for him considering he was having a good day and was moving forward in the race.
Oh yeah. Did I mention how awesome it is being down here (although the race hasn't been that great)?

Re: 2014 Coca-Cola 600
Wow, that was absolutely terrible. I knew coming in that this race wasn't gonna sniff the Indy 500's jockstrap in terms of entertainment value, but good grief, I never expected it to be this bad. This race sucked so much ass, and it's disappointing and frustrating because this season has actually been really solid for the Sprint Cup Series, but the turd was gonna have to drop eventually, and I predicted it would be this race, and... well, needless to say, I wish I wasn't right. If there was ever the cure for insomnia, this was case in point.
Of course, having Mr. Borebox win the race certainly didn't help matters, but of course, when you have Johnson winning the pole, that's not a good sign at all, and yes, to his credit, he does win the 600 once again and that's all well and good, but if there was any life left in this race, he just sucked the rest of it out. Props go to Jeff Gordon, who gutted out the 600 miles despite back spasms, but that's really the only good thing that came out of this God-awful race. Easily an early candidate for worst race of the year, IMO. Not to mention the 500, once again, made this race look like a total joke in terms of entertainment value. Thankfully, this has really been the only really shitty race this year, but I really hope this doesn't become a trend like it has in the past.
Bottom line, IMO, this was the worst 600 I've personally ever watched.
The 2014 Coca-Cola 600 gets a 1.0/10.

Certainly not the worst race I've watched, but wasn't all that great either. It just paled in comparison to the 500 today.

So, in short, Jimmie Johnson is the devil and sucks the life out of any race that he wins? I understand that it's the 600 and it's Charlotte Motor Speedway, but come on.

That's not really saying much, TBH.
Well, to me, he's the John Cena of NASCAR. I don't think he's the devil, and I do respect him for his accomplishments, but I just don't like the guy. In my opinion, he's boring and has a very vanilla personality. I'm sorry that I don't find Jimmie Johnson to be an entertaining driver.Casey Lester wrote:So, in short, Jimmie Johnson is the devil and sucks the life out of any race that he wins? And just an FYI, you can come at me for feeling this way, but this is a very subjective matter, and it's not gonna change my opinion on Johnson or this race, so don't waste your time. I can be very stubborn when it comes to my OPINION. If you don't agree with me, that's fine. Everybody's gonna have their own point of view, and I can only speak from my point of view.
And to be fair, the Sprint Cup Series has actually had some pretty solid racing this year, but it was gonna drop a giant turd eventually, and predictably, this race was the one that produced it.
And yes, I am disappointed because I was hoping that this race would turn out to be halfway decent after a spectacular Indy 500, but as usual, the 600 fails to produce.
Again, IMO.
JMac525 wrote:Certainly not the worst race I've watched, but wasn't all that great either. It just paled in comparison to the 500 today.
That's just it. The 600 was bad to begin with, but it happens on the same day as the 500, so people are going to measure the 600 against the 500, and because the 500 is amazing year in and year out, it just makes the 600 look even worse. Now, if the 600 had produced a halfway decent race like most of us were hoping for, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

No awards for this race, due to the fact that nothing at all happened.
Also: I don't have anything personal against Jimmie Johnson, it's just that I hate Chad Knaus, who is a known cheater to the point that the 48 is probably questionably legal at best at least 60 percent of the time.
