Grand Prix of Indianapolis
IndyCar is going racing on the Indy road course for the first time this weekend. They've made some modifications to the track
Notes from the entry list
- The 22 usual suspects are entered, plus the part time car of Oriol Servià
- Franck Montagny is driving a fifth car for Andretti Autosport, a Suretone Entertainment sponsored #26 entry that will be driven by Kurt Busch in the 500. Rumor has it we may see more of Montagny in this car.
- Martin Plowman is driving a second AJ Foyt Enterprises car, which has been painted to resemble AJ Foyt's old Gillmore cars.
- All three Penske entries are Verizon sponsored.
- Although the two Indianapolis rounds weren't originally on Carlos Huertas's schedule he's on the entry list anyway.

Just wish they were hitting the start-finish straight through Turn 1 like the F1 cars used to, instead of using the MotoGP complex.

Re: Grand Prix of Indianapolis
Qualifying just ended, in one of the strangest ways possible. Ryan Hunter-Reay had the fastest lap in the final session, but he wrecked on his final lap. So because he brought out a red flag, they took his fastest lap away from him, which means Sebastian Saavedra will start the pole for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, with Jack Hawksworth starting second. Hunter-Reay qualified third, but may have to go to the rear now, while Simon Pagenaud, Will Power, and Scott Dixon rounded out the final session drivers.

Man, that was a really loud bang when he hit the wall, and he didn't even hit it that hard.Nascar9fan wrote:Looks like Hunter-Reay hit a puddle in the middle of the road

First off, I'm glad everyone is okay. That was one hell of a crash.
Secondly, I think Saavedra outdid Scott Sharp with that screw up start.

Does Bestwick's presence actually make Cheever and Goodyear pleasant to listen to? More of that, please.

Did anyone else see Power run over his air gun for the left front as he left his pit box, or is it just me?

Graham may be a whiner, but he does have a point. IndyCar, stop with these late restarts. All you're doing is causing these jam-ups and causing unnecessary wrecks.
Come on, IndyCar. You're better than this.

Also, that move that Plowman did earlier on... real brilliant move. You know you're going to overcook the corner, so you go left like he does into a lefthander, and plow someone, instead of just staying to the right and overcook the corner without taking someone out.

Hell Yeah Simon Pagenaud!!! It was somewhat of an uneventful race, beside that scary incident at the start.

Re: Grand Prix of Indianapolis
Well, it was bit yawn worthy during the middle portion, but the fuel strategery really shook things up, and we had a damn good finish with Simon Pagenaud coming out on top after stretching the fuel, and he did it with Hunter-Reay and Helio breathing down his back. All in all, a good show, and I think it's safe to say a new tradition at Indy has been born.
The inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis gets a 6.5/10.

Great win Pagenaud!
First French driver to win an Open Wheel race at Indy since Gaston Chevrolet in 1920.
Also, Hinch has had some terrible luck this season. ;_;

I'm glad Pagenaud won. He was second on the list of drivers who deserved it, with Hawksworth topping it.

Crazy as hell race. Mostly for the batshit insanity on the starts and restarts
Good win Pagenaud, played the fuel strategy right as Servia ran it out.
Hope Hinch is okay, Lot of scary moments today and there's nothing more scarier then getting debris in the cockpit.

Re: Grand Prix of Indianapolis
Some food for thought...
Maybe it's just me, but has anyone noticed that the officiating has gone down the shitter ever since they brought back Brian Barnhart into an officiating role? And I'm not exactly a guy who believes in coincidences. And we saw the same thing at Toronto last year.
Maybe I'm just looking too far into it, but it does seem rather peculiar.

James Hinchcliffe has been released from Methodist Hospital following scans of his head and neck, which revealed that he has a concussion. He now must be cleared in order to compete at Indy.

Given where Servia found himself... yeah, Graham Rahal was going to be a contender, and had a podium run going.

I was especially looking forward to watching this race, but I messed up the recording on the DVR. Sounds like it was rather eventful, too.
On another note, EJ Viso drove James Hinchcliffe's car in opening practice for the Indy 500 today, and was sixth on the speed charts. No definite word on how long before Hinch can return to the driver's seat yet.

From what I've heard on other forums it's very much in question if Hinch can race in the 500 but their goal is for him to be back by Carb Day and perhaps much sooner than that.
Also Hinch wasn't the only mayor to have to go to the hospital.
Indianapolis mayor Greg Ballard was injured by debris from Mikhail Aleshins car. His injuries are not life threatening and he was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
Well, it appears the Russians have attempted the assassination of an American politician.

Plowman was also apparently hit with debris per his twitter, That race literally tried its hardest to kill someone.
