(whistles) Damn.
That track record of 203 mph might not be safe.

I was there when Joey hit 203MPH. It was amazing, but I think the track is wide enough that cars probably won't crash and get airborne down the backstretch. If they can, that's up to Charlotte and their R&D. Maybe limit the engines as a whole, get them down to about 190 down the stretch if possible.

Wow, it was amazing to watch cars qualify at 202 last June from the stands, and they're still getting faster! Hopefully the racing here won't be affected (at least not negatively) by the new aero rules.

Wow, that's really fast. Good to see those type of speeds at Michigan.

217MPH, this can produce injuries, doesn't matter the safety. If one guy does a stupid move, it won't end very well.

217 MPH is only a few miles per hour faster than what the speeds at Michigan were last year. If speeds were this high at Daytona or Talladega, that may be concerning, but Michigan is very wide and sweeping, anyways, and they don't go as fast through the corners. Not that freak accidents can't happen, but I feel that with how safe these cars have become and considering the racing that the track produces, 217 MPH at the end of a straightaway shouldn't be quite that concerning.
Maybe I'm wrong, and it will prove to be unsafe, but from what I know, I doubt that will be the case.

For a Sprint Cup car, that's freaking fast. I remember back when CART was around, they'd hit 240 MPH...and that was their average lap too.

And they didn't have roofs or SAFER barriers or HANS devices......those drivers were real badasses. 217 in a modern stock car is nothing, safety-wise.

Of course it's dangerous, comparatively speaking. But maybe this time NASCAR will decide to see what these cars and drivers are really made of instead of babying them. These are not children, they are professional racing drivers and they know what they're doing. The organization doesn't have to constantly restrict them and hold them back like an over-protective mother. If you really believe they are the best in the world like you claim, France and Co., then take the training wheels off, trust that the drivers are good enough to keep themselves safe, and show us some real action for once, not just for this race, but the series moving forward.

Even Michigan got repaved two years, we're probably not going to see the tyre problems that hampered the Auto Club, but in case we do, this may happen again.

Anyone who risks his life driving a race car to entertain us fans are badasses
