Miguel Paludo announced today via Twitter that he will not be running a full time schedule in NASCAR this year. It appears that Turner Scott Motorsports may have let him go too.

Jayski.com wrote:Changes to the All-Star Race Schedule announced: Charlotte Motor Speedway officials have announced changes to the May 16-17 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race schedule. During the second day of the NASCAR Sprint Media Tour hosted by Charlotte Motor Speedway, officials announced that the Sprint Showdown will be moved to Friday, May 16, preceding the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series' North Carolina Education Lottery 200. Before the green flag falls on Saturday's NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, drivers will set the field for the main event with a three-lap qualifying that includes a mandatory four-tire pit stop and no pit road speed limit.
"These changes mean fans get even more bang for their buck here at The Greatest Place to See the Race," said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. "In addition to watching the trucks battle on Friday night and rocking with a pre-race concert with Jake Owen on Saturday, fans will be treated to back-to-back nights of Sprint Cup Series action as drivers leave everything on the track with a $1 million payday on the line."
The schedule change means that fans can watch both NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers battle on Friday night, May 16. It is the only date on the NASCAR schedule where both truck and Sprint Cup drivers will compete in non-qualifying contests on the same night at the same venue.
Drivers already eligible to race in the 2014 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race include: #48-Jimmie Johnson, #99-Carl Edwards, #20-Matt Kenseth, #5-Kasey Kahne, #18-Kyle Busch, #4-Kevin Harvick, #34-David Ragan, #14-Tony Stewart, #16-Greg Biffle, #78-Martin Truex Jr., #55-Brian Vickers, #31-Ryan Newman, #22-Joey Logano, #2-Brad Keselowski,#1- Jamie McMurray, #24-Jeff Gordon, #11-Denny Hamlin and #41-Kurt Busch.
Eligible drivers who win a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race prior to the Sprint All-Star Race will be added to the field as well as the top two finishers in Friday night's Sprint Showdown and the Sprint Fan Vote winner.
Once the field is set, drivers and teams will turn their attention to the most highly-anticipated qualifying run of the season, a timed run of three laps including a mandatory four-tire pit stop with no pit road speed limit. With the new schedule, the Sprint Showdown winner and second place finisher as well as the Sprint Fan Vote winner will make qualifying runs.
All NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race ticket holders can also enjoy a free concert featuring country music mega star Jake Owen before the green flag falls on the winner-take-all $1 million dash for cash.
Tickets for Friday night's double-header with the Sprint Showdown and the N.C. Education Lottery 200 start at just $25. Fans can catch all the action of the Sprint Showdown, N.C. Education Lottery 200, Sprint All-Star Race qualifying, the Jake Owen pre-race concert and the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race with weekend frontstretch ticket packages starting at just $99. Just $10 down reserves a seat at The Greatest Place to See the Race, and interest-free payment plans are available. Eric McClure has been announced as the driver of Front Row Motorsports #35 Ford for the Daytona 500. Hefty and Reynolds Wrap will join as sponsors. McClure has run just three races in the Cup Series, his last in 2006.

A little more on the McClure story. This is a one race deal for now, but it could be more. McClure will also be scaling back his Nationwide schedule for this season, and that there is a good possibility that 2014 will be his last season in NASCAR. McClure said that his numerous wrecks have taken a toll on him and his family.

Some other stories for the silly season.

Trevor Bayne will remain with the Wood Brothers this year, running at least 12 races this season in the #21.

Ryan Blaney will make his Cup debut this year at Kansas in April and will get at least 15 Nationwide races. He will be driving a third car for Penske in the Cup series for at least two races, the first of which will be Kansas. The 15 Nationwide race will be in the #22.

Tyler Young, who has run the #02 in the Truck Series part time the last couple years, has announced he will run the full schedule this year.

Jimmy Weller, who ran part time for SS Green Light Racing, will return for at least 12 races in the team's #08. As for the team's second truck, the #07, it may or may not return.

Moving on to ARCA, the first race of their season is only a couple weeks away, and their entry list is up. It currently sits at 39 cars, only one short of a full field at Daytona.

I guess you might as well go out in the series you've been trying your hardest to get into. I'd like to see McClure run in Cup this year.

I'm not sure there is any real connection. I believe Hefty came in looking for a driver to sponsor, McClure was running Johnny Davis's #0 car, and it just happened. He wasn't a very expensive driver to sponsor, and he was fan friendly, and it worked out for seven full seasons.

As for who will share his ride, that will officially be Jeff Green. The #14 team is still planning a full season, but no word on how many races each driver will run.

Michael Waltrip Racing announced a partnership with Jay Robinson Racing enabling the #66 Toyota Camry to race in all 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup events. Waltrip will drive the #66 in the Daytona 500 and again in the May Talladega race. Jeff Burton will race the #66 in six to eight races during the season, including his first race on March 9 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Robinson has named Joe Nemechek as the primary driver for the remainder of the races.(MWR), not sure if this deal has anything to do with Identity Ventures Racing or if the #87 team will run in 2014.(1-30-2014

Jeb Burton has officially lost his ride with TSM.

Turner Scott Motorsports announced today that Arrowhead, the primary sponsor of the #4 entry driven by Jeb Burton in the Camping World Truck Series, has defaulted on payment to the team. As a result of Arrowhead's unfortunate and untimely failure to make a critical payment, Turner Scott Motorsports will not be able to field Burton and the #4 truck full time for the 2014 season. The loss of the primary sponsor also means that the company must begin making staff reductions. It is anticipated that the reductions will affect up to 20-percent of the current TSM workforce. The company is moving as quickly as possible to give the affected employees the maximum opportunity to seek employment with other teams.
"The breakout success of Jeb Burton and the entire #4 team in 2013 makes these decisions especially painful," said team co-owner Harry Scott Jr. "However, we will do everything we can to put Jeb on the racetrack with our organization going forward. He is a great talent and has a great career ahead of him. Despite this setback, Turner Scott Motorsports remains strong overall and will compete for championships in both the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series. We are extremely proud of the talent of our workforce here at TSM, and it is very difficult for us to lose anyone within our organization. We understand the way that this affects the lives of everyone involved, and we will do our best to assist in placement elsewhere in the sport."
"Obviously, these are tough circumstances for everyone involved, not just for me, but also for my teammates who are affected," said Burton. "I am working with Turner Scott Motorsports to identify any potential opportunities for me to get on the track this year."
Turner Scott Motorsports is still preparing to compete in the 2014 season with multiple entries in both the Nationwide Series and NCWTS. The team will compete in the NNS with two full-time teams, including Kyle Larson and a second driver to be named in the near future. TSM will compete in the NCWTS with one full-time team (Ben Kennedy in the #31) and one part-time team (Brandon Jones with other drivers to be named later).(Turner Scott Motorsports)(1-31-2014)

Travis Kvapil takes deal in domestic assault case: NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Travis Kvapil was placed on two years probation Thursday and must perform community service as part of a deferred prosecution agreement in his domestic assault case. Kvapil, 37, faced misdemeanor charges of false imprisonment and assault after an Oct. 8 incident at his home. Under the prosecution agreement, the charges against him eventually will be dropped. Kvapil, who drove for BK Racing last season but does not have a ride yet for 2014, appeared Thursday in North Carolina District Court in Iredell County. According to court records, he pleaded guilty to the charges as part of an agreement that will dismiss the case after he completes two years probation (at least one year of supervised probation) and 72 hours of community service. He had to pay $460 in fees and court costs and must attend an anger management class. The probation stipulates that he can travel out of the state for work purposes as long as he gives notice to his probation officer.(Sporting News)(2-1-2014)

Whether or not Burton ends up at JRM, he will get at least two races in ThorSport equipment. He will run ThorSport's #13 Toyota in the Truck Series at Daytona, as well as a #13 Toyota for the team in the ARCA race at Daytona, using the points from Frank Kimmel and ThorSport's championship season last season. The plan is that this contract is a currently listed at two races, but if they can get sponsorship, maybe more.

Good to see King get another shot but he deserves more then that. I thought Gaulding had a deal with KBM? What happen to that.

Paludo's out of a ride for sure and i believe Piquet might fill the remaining races with NTS.

It was Harvick that he had the deal with, and it got terminated to my knowledge.

As for Paludo and Piquet, Paludo has said that he may run some races, and Piquet was rumored to be going to NTS full time, but that probably won't happen.

As for their old team, Turner Scott, they're going from running as many as six trucks in one race to maybe only one all year. Ben Kennedy will be in the #31 for the full season, but everything else is up in the air. Word is that the payments that Arrowhead Tobacco failed to pay TSM for sponsoring Jeb Burton's ride included some payments from 2013. As a result, the Truck Series program has taken a big hit, and nothing is else is certain. There is a list of drivers they have talked, and at the top of that list is Tayler Malsam, who has reportedly picked sponsorship from CoinStar since his last NASCAR effort. Brandon Jones's part time truck could become full time as well, and they've talked to drivers who have run races for them in the past, including Ron Hornaday and Todd Bodine.

Rumors are that Bobby Hamilton Jr. has signed a contract to run the remaining 19 races of the ARCA Racing Series schedule this year, driving the #40 Carter 2 Motorsports Dodge. The team said in a statement that they had signed a "well-known" driver to their car, but would not say who. Sweden born driver Alx Danielsson running the #40 car this coming weekend at Daytona.

From what I read Arrowhead had some issues internally with the company and wasn't able to make bank.

Jeb's signed a deal to run the ARCA and Truck races with Thorsport for Daytona already and JRM is also looking at hiring him

Paludo's out of a ride for sure and i believe Piquet might fill the remaining races with NTS.

The KBM closed the Nationwide Series operations and their only Truck is the #54.

Kyle Busch will also drive the #51 for a few races, splitting it with another driver. (I think I saw that it was Erik Jones, but I can't be entirely sure.)

Barring any last-second insanity, there shouldn't be any more changes.

I don't think so. MacDonald Motorsports used to run the #81 full time in Nationwide.

Terry Labonte to make final Daytona 500 start: Two-time NASCAR champion #32-Terry Labonte said Sunday's Daytona 500 will be his final start in this race. This will be Labonte's 32nd Daytona 500 start. He's never won the race but finished second in 1986, '90 and '97. Labonte will fall one start short of the record for this race. Dave Marcis started 33 Daytona 500s. Labonte, 57, said he plans to run the remaining three restrictor-plate races and maybe a few others this season for car owner Frankie Stoddard's Go Fas Racing. Labonte is scheduled to start 24th Sunday. He finished 12th in the second of two Budweiser Duel races Thursday night at Daytona International Speedway. Labonte said he's certain this will be his final Daytona 500. "I still love it,'' he said. "I've been dragging this retirement out for about seven years.'' Labonte admits he told Stoddard that last year's Daytona 500 would be his final one. "I told him I really mean it this time,'' Labonte said.(Motor Racing Network)(2-21-2014)

Finally. I hope.

It's been a very big week for Terry Labonte. After announcing that this Sunday's Daytona 500 will be his last, Labonte has been announced as one of the five new nominees for the NASCAR Hall Of Fame. Labonte, along with Buddy Baker, Bill Elliott, Mike Stefanik, and Robert Yates, have all been added to the nominees list for the Class of 2015. This year, however, five nominees were removed from the list. H. Clay Earles, Anne B. France, Les Richter, T. Wayne Robertson, and Ralph Seagraves were all removed from the list. No word on if this is permanent or temporary. Earles, France, and Seagraves are all going to be among the first five nominees for the Hall of Fame's new Landmark Award for Outstanding Contributions to NASCAR. They will be joined by Raymond Parks and Ken Squier.

It's on Jayski.

NASCAR considers limiting drivers on "double duty": Kyle Busch's thrilling move in the final few hundred feet of the Truck Series season opener led to his 99th win outside NASCAR's top series. The victory infuriated many fans. NASCAR heard them loud and clear. NASCAR said Saturday it is looking at potentially limiting the number of second- and third-tier event Sprint Cup regulars can run during the season. Officials have already talked about a potential rules adjustments, and Busch's win Friday night surely will lead to more discussions. Maybe even a change. "We're definitely aware of the fan messaging we get," said Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR's senior vice president of racing operations. "There's a balance, especially talking to the tracks, of having a Cup driver or two in the Trucks or Nationwide. We have had discussions with the race teams about ownership and should Cup drivers get points and we've looked at should they be limited in the number of races. It's something we are really studying." Busch has 63 wins in the Nationwide Series and 36 more in the Truck Series. Busch and fellow Sprint Cup driver Brad Keselowski own Truck teams, and NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr. owns a Nationwide team. And with sponsorship key to funding those operations, corporations often agree to sponsorship deals with the guarantee that the driver/owners will get behind the wheel in a handful of races or more. Tracks, television rights holders and NASCAR also all benefit from the draw of racing's top drivers. Of course, that usually means young and upcoming drivers get overlooked or left out of the car.
