Tony Stewart took to the airwaves Tuesday night on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, discussing a variety of topics, including his thoughts on group qualifying at restrictor-plate tracks, his future as a sprint car driver, a rule change for the Camping World Truck race at Eldora and why his pet pig is called Pork Chop.

Stewart shared some news on his show about the Eldora Truck race. Last year, 20 Trucks in the 30-Truck field were locked in. That won’t be the case this year. It was revealed on the show only five Trucks will be locked in this year.

“With only five locked-in positions, there’s a good opportunity to have more entries than we’ve ever had, if Trucks are available, because guys know they legitimately can race their way in much easier than they what they did the last two years.’’

Mark Martin no longer working with Roush Fenway

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series veteran Mark Martin, who was hired last July as a driver development coach for Roush Fenway Racing, is no longer with the organization. Asked Friday on Twitter if he would be working with RFR's crop of young drivers in the upcoming season, Martin responded, simply, "No." Martin, who drove for Roush Fenway from 1988-2006 -- the vast majority of his Sprint Cup career -- said at the time of his hiring as a driver development coach that he was happy to be reuniting with the organization where he earned 35 of his 40 career Sprint Cup wins. It was announced in mid-January that Martin, 56, has joined forces with late model dirt-racing legend Scott Bloomquist to field two entries in the Lucas Oil Late Model Championship in 2015. Bloomquist and up-and-coming driver Jared Landers will drive the two team cars, respectively, with both carrying sponsorship from Batesville, Ark.-based Mark Martin Automotive Group. NBC Sports Group to broadcast regional touring races

NASCAR and NBC Sports Group announced an unprecedented broadcast line-up of NASCAR's popular regional touring series, with a 39-race telecast schedule for racing's premiere grassroots series as their landmark partnership begins this season. NBCSN's slate features all 25 K&N Pro Series races between the top developmental series, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. The coming season will also see triple the television exposure from previous years for the stars and cars of the exciting Whelen Modified Tours, NASCAR's only open-wheeled division, which competes at historic short tracks from New Hampshire to North Carolina. A total of 14 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour events are included on this season's schedule. NBCSN's inaugural touring series event is the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season-opener at famed Florida short-track New Smyrna Speedway. The New Smyrna 150 will be contested on Feb. 15 and will air four days later on Feb. 19 on NBCSN. BK Racing to announce driver of #26, Jeb Burton? NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team BK Racing will hold a press conference announcing both the driver and primary sponsor of the #26 Toyota Camry followed by Q&A session on Monday, February, 9 at 11:00am/et at the NASCAR Hall of Fame Great Hall (BK Racing).
Hearing that Jeb Burton, so of Ward Burton, could be the driver of the #26. Burton ran the truck series in 2014 in the #13 ThorSport Racing Toyota with Estes as the sponsor. Burton was supposed to return to the team but the sponsor and team couldn't reach an agreement, so Burton is looking for a ride.(2-8-2015)

Johnny Sauter will run a limited schedule, I've heard. Matt DiBenedetto will apparently run a 4th BK Racing car (except at Daytona(?)) when Sauter is in the #83, so sounds like Jeb Burton might have some RotY competition. Gibbs also supposedly recommended DiBenedetto to BK Racing, so good guy Gibbs?

Brennan Poole in the #42 for 15 races: HScott Motorsports with Chip Ganassi announced they have partnered with DC Solar Solutions as primary sponsor for multiple races in the NASCAR XFINITY Series on the #42 Chevy Camaro for the 2015 season. Brennan Poole, 23, will pilot the #42 DC Solar Solutions Chevy Camaro in 15 races in 2015. The Texas native will make his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 7. Poole is a veteran of ARCA Racing Series competition. In 35 starts, the young driver has six wins, 18 top-five and 27 top-10s to go with four career poles. NASCAR announced on Wednesday that it will update the procedure for this week's NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series qualifying at Daytona International Speedway. "We continue to work in collaboration with the industry to implement the most exciting and competitive qualifying format, especially as it relates to Superspeedways," NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O'Donnell said. " As a result, we have made a few adjustments to the format for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR XFINITY Series events later this week at Daytona. We will continue to review the qualifying format for future Superspeedway events."
For Camping World Truck Keystone Light Pole Qualifying (Friday, 4:45pm/et, FOX Sports 1) and XFINITY Coors Light Pole Qualifying (Saturday, 12:15pm/et, FOX Sports 1), the field will be broken into four groups with a quarter of the field in each group.
In Round 1, groups will be set based on a random draw. Each group will be staged by NASCAR officials at the exit of pit road, and each vehicle must have its left-side tires on the outside line of a pit boxes. The vehicles will be staged with adequate spacing between vehicles to allow each driver the opportunity to roll off of pit road at his or her discretion. Once the vehicle starts rolling, it cannot stop. It must proceed to the track. The vehicles may go one at a time or in a group, but they must keep rolling once they start.
Each group will have two minutes and 30 seconds -- half the previous allotted time -- to complete a lap. There will be a three-minute break between each of the four groups in Round 1 and then a 10-minute break between Rounds 1 and 2. The fastest 24 times advance to Round 2.
In Round 2, the 12 odd-ranked vehicles (fastest to slowest) in Round 1 will be in the first group, and the 12 even-ranked vehicles (fastest to slowest) in Round 1 will be in the second group. The staging process will be the same, and each group will have two minutes and 30 seconds to complete a lap with a three-minute break between groups. After a 10-minute break, the top 12 advance to Round 3.
In Round 3, the top 12 vehicles will have two minutes and 30 seconds to complete a lap.
All other qualifying rules will apply with normal cooling procedures and the lineup set per the rule book.
The rules update comes three days after Daytona 500 qualifying, which saw a wreck in Round 1 and drivers waiting until the last possible second to cross the start/finish line to complete a lap. Really? I don't find it that unreasonable...if you want to run the double, you run the risk of not making the show. That's something drivers need to consider. As fun as it is watching guys do the double, their NASCAR Sprint Cup season should be their #1 priority. It's up to them to assess the risk and see if it's worth taking.

If you're serious about attempting to win the championship, you should be running every race you qualify for. That's really a no-brainer...

Besides, if a driver has to sit out for a legitimate medical reason, they can still attempt to get a waiver from NASCAR.

I honestly don't think it would be the best idea. I know Labonte won the 2000 title in the 18 and has had lots of other success in that car along the way, but he's on the road to retirement at the moment.
