Good to see Hornish get another shot, I thought he deserved one more go at Cup.

I can live with this decision. I remember him being in the #77 and hitting everything but the pace car (or jet dryer).

Hornish Jr. deserves another shot at the Sprint Cup. I think he's been in the Nationwide Series long enough to come back and hopefully prove he's better than he was in his Cup stint at Penske Racing.

Is this the most unfitting driver/sponsor combination ever?

Koch in the #44 at Homestead: Blake Koch is back with TriStar Motorsports for the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Koch will pilot the #44 Celsius Flo Fusion Camry, as he will attempt to top his break out performance from the 2013 season finale. Blake Koch is teaming up with Grammy nominated and multi-award winning hip-hop artist, Flo Rida for the final race of 2014. Both who call Southern Florida home, have teamed up to promote Flo Rida's new work out powder, Celsius Flo Fusion. Celsius Flo Fusion is a great tasting Pre-Workout energy drink to fuel those who live an active lifestyle. Using the same formula as your favorite Celsius products, Flo Fusion is powered by scientifically tested, calorie burning MetaPlus.(TriStar Motorsports)(10-20-2014)

Some changes have been announced for the Xfinity Series and the Truck Series.

- Truck Series fields will be shortened from 36 trucks per race to 32.

- Both series will eliminate the Top 30/Top 25 rule, in favor of Cup style qualifying rules. In the Xfinity Series, positions 1-33 will be decided on speed, while the Truck Series will decide positions 1-27 on speed. The remaining positions will awarded the highest drivers in points and the most recent past champion.

- Vehicles in both series will now have the driver's name on the rear window. This allows for driver identification, while still allowing the title sponsors the front windshield space.

What makes the Koch sponsorship especially funny, though, is that he's a devout Christain.

  Xfinity
Nationwide Teams
* Roush has confirmed Sadler and Reed. Bayne may be back for a partial schedule and no word on Chris Buescher
* RCR resigned Gaughan and Dillon. No word on Brian Scott but given his deep pockets I'd expect him to be back.
* No info from JD Motorsports.
* JR Motorsports already resigned Regan Smith and looks like it will do the same with Chase Elliott. A rotation of drivers will run the #88.
* Joe Gibbs Racing signed rookie Daniel Suarez to run the #18. I would imagine Kyle will return in the 54. No known plans for the #20 although Carl Edwards could end up running some Xfinity races. Gibbs lost its sponsor and its driver for the #11.
* TriStar hasn't announced any plans but word is McClure might be retiring.
* Team Penske is expected to split the #22 between Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano and/or Brad Keselowski.
* With all the trouble at Turner Scott, there is some real uncertainty here even though both Kyle Larson and Dylan Kwasnieski have sponsorships.
* Nothing has been announced from R3
* Curtis Key is going Cup racing, so it would seem unlikely that his multi car Xfinity "effort" will be back.
* There has been no word from the following entrants: Ryan Sieg, Richard Petty Motorsports, Jeremy Clements, Jimmy Means, Viva Auto Group, Cope/ML, Nemco, RAB, Carl Long, Billy Boat, Racing for Jesus, or Biagi DenBeste.
* Darrell Wallace Jr. is supposedly going to this series but the team is unknown. It would probably either Joe Gibbs Racing or an affiliated team/satellite team.

Jones full time with KBM in 2015: Kyle Busch Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing jointly announced today that Erik Jones will compete full time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2015 for KBM and run a part-time schedule for JGR in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. Running a part-time schedule in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series the last two seasons, Jones has registered three wins, one pole, six top-five and 12 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 8.7 across 16 starts. The Michigan native picked up his first career Truck Series victory at Phoenix International Raceway last November, when at the age of 17 years, five months and nine days old, at the time became the youngest winner of a NASCAR National Series event. This season, he added wins at Iowa Speedway in Newton and Las Vegas Motor Speedway and collected his first career pole in July at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Ryan "Rudy" Fugle will call the shots for Jones' championship campaign in the Truck Series next season. The New York native led KBM's #51 Tundra team to a series-leading six wins, including Jones' historic Phoenix victory, and an Owner's Championship as crew chief in 2013 and has contributed to an additional 10 wins in his role as race engineer for the organization during the 2012 and 2014 seasons. Announcements on truck number and sponsor for Jones' Truck Series effort are forthcoming as well as total number of races, his crew chief, car number and sponsors for his part-time schedule in the XFINITY Series.(Kyle Busch Motorsports)(11-6-2014)

Hey, remember when XXXtreme disappeared?

http://dockets.justia.com/docket/north-carolina/ncwdce/5:2014cv00155/76594

Per WCPainter on RuRa:
Swan is suing for $251,000. Apparently in the sale contract between Swan and XXXtreme, XXXtreme was to pay monthly payments of 10% of race winnings to pay the remaining balance of the sale price ($200k).

Sounds like XXXtreme changed the car # to avoid paying Swan due to a technicality in the contract.

Also worthy to note, the complaint mentions Swan had to pay the entry fees for XXXtreme until NASCAR approved the sale of the number.

XXXtreme has yet to file an answer to the complaint after filing a motion for extension. Their answer is now due Nov. 14.

Umm...don't you have better things to do besides being worried about NASCAR...oh that's right, your part Congress you get nothing done.

Congresswoman calls for NASCAR to suspend Kurt Busch: A congressional lawmaker is calling on NASCAR to suspend driver Kurt Busch from Sunday's season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway until the recent domestic accusation against him is fully resolved, SI.com has learned. In a letter addressed to NASCAR president Mike Helton and Stewart-Haas owners Tony Stewart and Gene Haas, Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), called the charges made by Patricia Driscoll, Busch's former domestic partner, "horrifying."
"But despite the severity of the criminal allegations against Mr. Busch," Speier writes, "I am disappointed to see that NASCAR and Stewart-Haas Racing have not taken any action. Your response to these serious allegations has been totally inadequate." Speier has also asked to be looped into the internal investigations of NASCAR and SHR, and for "a history of sanctions levied by NASCAR and racing teams for domestic violence incidents brought to your attention over the last five years."(in part from Sports Illustrated)(11-14-2014)

The Congresswoman may be a busybody, but she's right. NASCAR had a chance to be more proactive than their counterparts in the National Felon League™, and didn't.

In this current climate in which domestic violence cases in sports are being placed under a very powerful microscope, NASCAR could have headed off a big PR problem. Instead, it's going to crash head-on into one - especially if Congress gets any more involved.

NASCAR is waiting until the police finish their investigation because *Innocent, until proven Guilty*, if they say he did it, he will get suspended, not now because it's too early to put something on someone.

If NASCAR suspends Kurt, and the police say it was a fabrication and drop the case *As a Example* Kurt can sue NASCAR for all they got.... And we all know NASCAR will not risk that....

I don't think there is a reason. Considering Kasey Kahne was so god awful this year and only made it into the Chase just because his win at Atlanta, I don't think a contract extension is ideal for him.

So.... What happens to Chase. Cause Gordon's 3M sponsorship ends in 2017, Kahne's contract ends in 2018, Jr's in 2017 and Jimmie, until he retires......

It would be stupid to leave him in Xfinity for 4 seasons...

Junior would have to retire to make JR Motorsports a Cup team. If an active driver puts his own race team in Cup, the team technically counts as an additional team to the active driver's current race team. In other words, if Junior decides to bring JR Motorsports to Cup while he is still a Hendrick Cup driver, the JR Motorsports car would be considered a fifth Hendrick team, which is not allowed because of the four car cap. Hendrick would either have to shut a team down, or Junior would have to leave Hendrick and go somewhere with less than four teams.

As for what happens with Chase, the way I see it, this is basically telling Chase that he won't be needed at Hendrick Motorsports anytime soon. I think Gordon is going for 100 wins, and won't retire until he gets there. That means he will be around for at least another year or two. Junior is signed to the end of the 2017 season, so that isn't an option either. That leaves two drivers whose contracts were scheduled to end after 2015; Kahne, who got three more years, and Johnson, who has won Rick Hendrick six of his eleven Sprint Cup championships.

Not Jayski but

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/11/20/don-blankenship-mine-accident_n_6194180.html

Don Blankenship is the father of (and funding of) the dirt track driver and occasional Nationwide backmarker John Blankenship. Looks like we won't be seeing more of Blankensh*t in the Nationwide Series...even though we haven't seen an appearance since 2012.

Roundup of some NASCAR stuff from the last few days:

-Lee Spencer says that Jeff Gordon will retire at the end of next season.

-Austin Dillon will run a majority of the Xfinity schedule in the #33 Rheem Chevy. No idea where James Buescher will go now.

-KBM's official 2015 lineup will be: #54- Erik Jones, #TBA- Justin Boston- #51 Kyle Busch (4 races), Matt Tifft (6 races), Daniel Suarez (The rest).

-Rumor has it that GMS Racing is moving to the former Evernham Motorsports shop, and that Grant Enfinger will replace Joey Coulter in the 21, in addition to Spencer Gallagher running full-time.

-Mike Hillman, Jr. will be Brian Scott's crew chief next year.

-Steve O'Donnell says the Battle at the Beach will not return next year.

I don't believe Gordon would retire that soon. Of course he has to retire at some point, but I thought he would stick around until at least 2017.

And also BOOOOOOOOO NO BATTLE AT THE BEACH.

I think once Kahne resigned, Gordon retiring in 2015 was confirmed.

Seeing as how the full schedule of the ARCA schedule was released today and no one has posted it yet, I figured I'd do the honors of posting it here: http://www.arcaracing.com/articles/1991642-arca-racing-series-schedule-set-for-2015

It's still a 20-race schedule, but the only major change that was made is Elko and Madison has been swapped out of the schedule with Iowa and Nashville Fairgrounds filling in the void.

UPDATE 2 A BK Racing co-owner tweeted congratulations to Cole Whitt on landing the #34 ride at Front Row Motorsports for next season, but a Front Row Motorsports spokesperson said there are "no expected changes with the 34 car." David Ragan drove the #34 car this past season, finishing 32nd in points. Shari Spiewak, a spokesperson for Front Row Motorsports said Wednesday morning that it was anticipated that Ragan will be with the team again in 2015. "The team is working on getting its 2015 plans finalized and, hopefully, should be able to have everything buttoned up in a few weeks," Spiewak told Motor Racing Network. Ian Moye, a spokesperson for BK Racing, said that the team has not announced any of its drivers for next season. Whitt, JJ Yeley and Alex Bowman finished the season with the team this past year.(Motor Racing Network)(11-26-2014)

Glad that we'll get to see more of Gallagher in the Truck Series next year, and especially that Enfinger will be racing, too! Very Happy

I think that the configuration from earlier this year was an improvement upon the one from 2013, and I really liked it. It's a shame that it won't be returning.

I know that modifying points systems to determine "what would have happened" for the final results is not entirely accurate, seeing as individual races may have had different outcomes had the points system been different.

However, had the 2014 NASCAR Cup season been run without any Chase format whatsoever, Kevin Harvick may well have finished in 5th, and Jeff Gordon would have been the champion. I believe that without any mid-season points resets over the past ten years, this may have been Gordon's seventh championship. If I remember correctly, I think that he would have won the 2004 and 2007 titles, as well.
