bigdc48 wrote:NASCAR could consider rule to prevent drivers from getting out of cars: Kevin Ward Jr.'s death occurred in a sprint car race, but its implications could reach Sprint Cup - not only because the fatality involved a car driven by Tony Stewart. When NASCAR officials hold their weekly competition meeting Tuesday, it's likely they will discuss the circumstances that allowed Ward to exit his cockpit and angrily scramble down the banking to confront Stewart under a yellow flag at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. Ward's death has prompted suggestions that rules are needed that keep drivers in their cars under caution until safety personnel arrive. At least two dirt tracks in New York made changes Monday as Brewerton Speedway and Fulton Speedway announced in a website release that drivers would be required to stay in their cars during an accident. If a driver were to exit the car during a yellow, the race would be placed under a red flag, and the penalty could include a fine or suspension. There is precedent for deaths in other series being the impetus for immediate changes in NASCAR. "We always have discussions to become better," NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp told USA TODAY Sports. "NASCAR has a history of looking at situations, and we're not afraid to react to them."(USA Today)(8-12-2014)

I would presume that there would be an exception to a rule like this if the car were on fire.

Truex, Jr to miss practice and qualifying at Michigan: #78-Martin Truex Jr. will miss Friday's practice and qualifying sessions at Michigan International Speedway. Recently, Sherry Pollex, Martin's longtime partner and girlfriend was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Sherry and Martin would like to thank the NASCAR community for all the well wishes. They have requested that everyone respect the family's privacy as Sherry begins her treatment and recovery. Matt Crafton, reigning Camping World Truck Series champion, will sub for Truex on Friday. Truex will join his Furniture Row Racing team Saturday and compete in Sunday's Sprint Cup Series race. Sherry's passion in life is fighting pediatric cancer. To learn more about Sherry's work with children, go to www.martintruexjrfoundation.org. "Everyone at Furniture Row Racing extends their thoughts and prayers to Sherry during her treatment and recovery period," said Joe Garone, Furniture Row Racing General Manager. "She is a devoted supporter of our race team and we can't wait for her return to the track."(Furniture Row Racing)(8-13-2014)

Cancer is never good news, but I hope her treatment goes well and she pulls through.

Re: The Jayski Copypasta Thread

Post by bigdc48 on Tue Aug 19, 2014 12:13 pm

The worst-kept secret has been revealed.

Edwards to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2015: Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) announced that Carl Edwards will join the organization in 2015 to compete full time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. In addition, ARRIS Group, Inc. will sponsor Edwards in the #19 Toyota Camry for 17 races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with JGR expanding its operations to include a fourth team. "This is one of the biggest days in Joe Gibbs Racing's history," said Joe Gibbs, founder and owner of Joe Gibbs Racing. "To be able to bring a driver the caliber of Carl Edwards on board to launch our fourth team is just a thrill. But we also have the opportunity to announce a new partner in ARRIS that will not only sponsor Carl, but also share a vision with Carlos Slim Domit and Escuderia TELMEX to develop Mexican and Latin American drivers in NASCAR. We are excited to have Daniel Suarez as part of that program and look forward to watching his development in the NASCAR Nationwide Series next season."
A Missouri native, Edwards is currently eighth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings with two wins, five top-five and nine top-10 finishes thus far this season. Over the course of his 11-year career, he has won a total of 23 races with 106 top-five and 182 top-10 finishes. In addition to his 23 Sprint Cup Series wins, he has also compiled 38 wins in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and won the championship in 2007. His highest finish in the Sprint Cup Series season was in 2011 when he was runner-up to Tony Stewart based on a tiebreaker.(Joe Gibbs Racing)
AND from the NASCAR.com streamed press conference: Arris will debut on the #19 Toyota at Daytona in February. Joe Gibbs said the crew chief will be announced at a later date and mentioned most of the team will come from within Joe Gibbs Racing. Gibbs also said that sponsorship for most of the other 19 races that ARRIS will not be the primary sponsor have been sold and will be announced at a later date. Rumor is that Subway will move over to JGR with Edwards and that was the only sponsor allowed to leave Roush Fenway Racing with Edwards.(8-19-2014)

I heard earlier that there could be some schedule changes next year due to the new TV broadcasting schedule, and I was afraid that that would mean nothing more than a few existing races swapping dates.

It turns out that those fears were entirely rational.

Darlington has its Labor Day weekend back for 2015 and all is right with the world. Well, for the nostalgics, anyway, but I won't complain. Wink

Other than that, nothing too terribly different with the schedule, but I'm disappointed we didn't get Road America or another roadie for Cup.

The summer Daytona race has been made a Sunday night race scheduled for Sunday, July 5th. The strange thing about this is that the mandatory one day federal holiday for Independence Day in 2015 is scheduled for July 3rd, so there is a very good possibility that most people will not have off on July 6th.

I think the July Daytona race got moved to Sunday night for 2015 because NBC typically broadcasts New York City's July 4th celebration, and they didn't want to disrupt that, so, the 400 got moved to a Sunday night for one year.

RTA vs Nascar showdown coming?

NASCAR's TV money split won't change for 2015: NASCAR won't change the formula for how it distributes television money from its current split among tracks, teams and the sanctioning body when its new television deal kicks in next year, a deal that likely will be worth nearly 4% more in 2015 than in 2014. In a news release to announce the impact of the schedule changes and the new 10-year television deal that goes into effect next season, track operator International Speedway Corp. said the split will remain at 65% to the tracks, 25% to the teams through the purse and 10% to NASCAR.
ISC, a publicly traded company whose majority of voting stock is controlled by the NASCAR-owning France family, is obligated to tell investors some details about the deal because it is the biggest revenue stream for ISC. For 2015, ISC said it will take in 3.8% more than in 2014 from the NASCAR television package with the amount increasing 3-5% each year at an average of 3.9% per year. The new package reportedly is worth $8.2 billion over 10 years, up 46% from the eight-year, $4.5-billion deal that ends after this season.
Purses will go up unless NASCAR requires less from the track for the purse. For its 21 Cup events (19 points races, Sprint Unlimited, Daytona 500 qualifying races), ISC said it will take in $316 million next year, including what it will then pay out as part of the purse. Using the NASCAR formula, it appears ISC will have $228 million in revenues in 2015 from the television deal.(in part from Sporting News)(8-28-2014)

Fas Lane Racing wrote:Go FAS Racing announced that 21 year old, Iowa Native, Joey Gase will make his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut September 14th at Chicagoland Speedway in the #32 Ford. Gase has also been running the entire Nationwide Series schedule with #52 Jimmy Means Racing under the Donate Life colors to help raise awareness for the need of organ, eye, and tissue donation and to honor donors and their families. Gase is currently top 20 in Nationwide Series driver points. In August of 2011 Go FAS (Go Green) Racing also gave Gase his first NASCAR Nationwide Series start at Iowa Speedway where he finished 20th. "I am very excited and thankful that Archie and the entire team are giving me this opportunity," said Gase. "My Nationwide Series career started with Go FAS in 2011 which led to a great 20th place finish. Hopefully I can get another good finish with the team on the 14th in my first ever cup start." Joey and the team currently have a couple associate sponsors for the race but are still looking for a primary sponsor. "The team is working hard on finding a primary sponsor or two large associate sponsors for this race so we can give Joey a good shot and have a strong run," said team owner Archie St. Hilaire.

New Q rules in Cup and Trucks when they go to Talladega

http://www.thescore.com/nascar/news/569961

Here’s the new format:

Three rounds with the first round divided into two groups amongst the competitors. The first qualifying round is five minutes in length for each group.
Competitors will be assigned to a first qualifying round group based on the random draw held earlier in the event.
The 24 eligible competitors that post the fastest single lap speed from either of the first qualifying round groups will advance to the second round. The remaining competitors will be sorted based on their speed posted in the first round of qualifying in descending order.
There will be a 10-minute break after the completion of the first qualifying round and the 24 remaining competitors that advance to the second round will have their times reset.
The second qualifying round is five minutes in length and the 12 eligible competitors that post the fastest single lap speed will advance to the third and final round.
The fastest remaining competitors will earn positions 13-24 based on their fastest single lap speed posted in qualifying in descending order.
Following a five minute break, the 12 eligible competitors that advance to the final round will have their posted speeds reset.
The final qualifying round is five minutes in length and the fastest single lap speed will determine positions 1-12 in descending order.

Seem pretty broken to me. The fact that there was a high possibility for the big one in qualifying, meant that something had to be done. Keep in mind that there crashes in Nationwide Qualifying at Talladega and Daytona*.

This.

25 or 30 minutes is way too long for the first session. 15 would suffice.

I agree with that, but I disagree that the time limit is the only problem.  When you have half the field going forty miles per hour around the track to disrupt others, it gets dangerous, and needs to be fixed.

From Jayski:

Ragan a favorite to replace Ambrose? With Ambrose's departure, David Ragan has emerged as one of the top candidates for the #9 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford. While the driver of the #34 Front Row Motorsports Ford is content where he is, at his age he would entertain offers to improve his position. "If Richard Petty had interest in me driving the car, I would certainly talk to them some," Ragan told Motorsport.com on Saturday. "As a 28-year-old, I want to be around the sport for a long time and feel like I have a lot of good years in front of me. I'm very grateful for the opportunity that Bob Jenkins and Front Row Motorsports have given me. I've had a lot of fun and won a race. But you never know what the future might hold. About this time every year, you look at your options in other series or with other teams and other sponsors to go and race and I'd love to have the opportunity to talk to them for a little bit. But I'm sure there are a lot of drivers in that same situation." Ragan is already established as a Ford racer - and a Ford car dealer as well. He also has a past history with the current crew chief of the #9 Ford, Drew Blickensderfer from his time with Roush Fenway Racing, where Ragan won his first Cup race and two poles in his final season with the team. Sponsorship remains a question for the #9 Ford for next season. Stanley/DeWalt is expected to join Joe Gibbs Racing next year with a split plan of support between Carl Edwards on the #19 (Stanley) and Matt Kenseth (DeWalt) on the #20 Toyota.(Motorsport)(9-14-2014)

How the hell does somebody just walk off with several sets of tires from the garage area????

Tires stolen from Chicago garage: One week it's a fan on the fence, the next week tires are stolen in the garage. Just who is policing the paddock? On Saturday night tires were lifted from the #55 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota and the #83 BK Racing Toyota teams prior to Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Chicagoland Speedway. The tires from Brian Vickers car were later discovered dumped in another area in the garage, the team told Motorsport.com. However, the scuff and rim from Ryan Truex's car was never recovered according to team owner Ron Devine. Tires cost roughly $500 each.(Motorsport)(9-15-2014)

The Motorsports Group moving to Cup in 2015: The Motorsports Group [Nationwide teams #40 & #46 owned by Curtis Key] announced that it will participate in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starting with Daytona in 2015. The #30 Chevy SS is seeking a driver, crew and sponsorship opportunities.(TMG) The team is not afflilated with Brandon Davis or Swan Racing and is not planning to run any races this year. They plan a full season of racing and not a "start and park" effort. They will build their own engines. Plans for Nationwide teams next season have not been determined.(9-16-2014)

They will so S&P lol. They have a S&P with the 46, and with the 40 literally blowing the engine every week... This should end well Razz

Billy Boat Motorsports to run trucks, Mingus to drive UPDATE: Billy Boat Motorsports announced on its Twitter page that the team would run the remainder of the Camping World Truck Series schedule beginning in Las Vegas with driver Mason Mingus. Mingus will pilot the #15 Call 811 Before You Dig Chevy Silverado. Mingus, a rookie in 2014, enters New Hampshire 11th in the driver point standings with his current WinTron Racing team. (See an image of the truck on the #15 Team Paint Schemes page).(9-18-2014)
UPDATE: Billy Boat Motorsports today announced it will field a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series entry with 19-year-old driver Mason Mingus beginning next weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Brentwood, Tennessee native will complete the remaining six-race schedule in the #15 Call 811 Before You Dig Chevy Silverado with BBM, a team that currently runs part-time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with rookie Chad Boat. "My goal has always been to run multiple cars or trucks and multiple drivers out of our shop," said team owner Billy Boat. "We have been building the foundation of our team, hiring talented people and building quality race cars and trucks. Having raced against Mason last year in the ARCA Racing Series, I was very familiar with his talent and determination. I hope to use these six races as a springboard into 2015, with Billy Boat Motorsports running full time entries in the NCWTS."(Billy Boat Motorsports)(9-18-2014)

It's so disappointing to know that the Rock is in more trouble. Not sure how likely it is, but hopefully whoever gets the speedway at the end of all of this can bring racing back, again.

Between this and the run with Hattori, I think Bowman might be trying to look for a way out of BK.

He did kinda well with that Hattori car. He just needs another year in NW, or two. When he was in the 99, he's outperforming former truck champ James Buescher who's been really anonymous. Bowman had really good runs. Heck he may of won a race if he stayed, but couldn't due to lack of sponsorship.

He should of had another year of ARCA. He had 21 starts in ARCA and had six wins, but he only ran for the title once. I think if he had stayed in ARCA one more year, he could've gained more experience, and attracted attention from bigger teams.

As for BK Racing, it sounds like they may have stretched themselves too thin. Their director of competition left the team earlier this week to go to John Wes Townley's family team, Athenian Motorsports, as the crew chief.

Potentially big opportunity coming Bowman's way here. I really hope that he can make the most of it! He is also one of my favorite "up-and-coming" drivers.
