2014 Smash Beer 500 Pre-Race Empty 2014 Smash Beer 500 Pre-Race

Post by Ceej Sun Mar 02, 2014 5:36 pm

153 cars took part in Marlisle Pole Award qualifying on Tuesday, which would determine the front row and the seeding for the qualifying races. Pole qualifying was split into 4 sessions, with drivers being placed into each session randomly.

M&J Racing's Taylor Brillon grabbed the Marlisle Pole Award in the second session. She was the only driver to set a lap in the 34 second range. Tom Delgado, after claiming that Frank Azure "got us some valuable information" in the Apex Racing School Rookie Shootout, evidently put that information to use and placed himself on the outside of the front row in the final session, bumping out Leslie Riggs. Riggs was set to complete the front row for M&J beforehand.

The starting grid is as follows:

Row 1:
#⑨- Taylor Brillon, Cirno Cooling Saar V8, M&J Racing, 34.897
#37- Tom Delgado, Defender Muffler Systems Lenard V8, Tom Delgado Racing, 35.029

Undefined:
#83- Tammy Barnton, Bitter Pills Lenard V8, HQS Racing, Rookie Shootout Winner

The remaining 38 spots, as 41 cars will start the 500, will be determined by a series of qualifying races.

2 E-Mains, 123rd-153rd, top 10 transfer to D-Mains
2 D-Mains, 83rd-122nd, top 16 transfer to C-Mains
2 C-Mains, 43rd-82nd, top 16 transfer to B-Mains
2 B-Mains, 3rd-42nd, top 20 transfer to 500

2014 Smash Beer 500 Pre-Race Empty Re: 2014 Smash Beer 500 Pre-Race

Post by Memoriesallbutdone Sun Mar 02, 2014 7:33 pm

Luke Ocean and Kathy Parker feeling good about there chances being in the B-mains; Jennifer Duke and Betty Cox feeling optimistic about their chances; Lora Ocean and Angelina Hawk frustrated with deep hole

"It's nice to see that my girlfriend Kathy and I were fast enough to be in the B-mains. Now being in the B-mains is one thing, but making it past them is another, so hopefully we can make it into the 500." - Luke Ocean

"Lora [Ocean] claims she's always better then me, but hey she can't talk jack right now since I was faster then her and in the second B-main, while she has to work her way up. Hopefully Luke and I can both make it in, but don't worry, if we make it in together, I won't be holding anything back on him." - Kathy Parker

"Betty [Cox] and I, will do our very best to make this race because we are new to the racing world and are willing to do whatever it takes to learn and hopefully we can capitalize our learning by making the race but anything can happen. I am in a C-main, just missed the B-mains and Betty is in a D-main, so we got some work to do if we want to make the race but regardless I am hoping to learn a lot." - Jennifer Duke

"Being in a D-main isn't ideal, but hey it could be worse, could have been in a E-main. Just like Jennifer said, we are hoping to make the race but if nothing else, to learn more about racing. We been racing in the NPCC and we haven't been doing great so let's see if we can do better in another series." - Betty Cox

"This ****ing blows. We didn't win the shootout therefore we are in this mess, and now I have to dig out of this massive hole I'm in because I'm in a ****ing D-main. That ***** of a girlfriend my brother has can talk all the smack she wants, but she can't talk until she makes it into the 500. I'm happy Luke is in a B-main so we at least have a fighting chance to give the new team a chance into a major event, but damn it this is not how I wanted to start my 2014." - Lora Ocean

"My mother isn't going to let me live this down. We have been fighting since she felt like I don't deserve to be in this series and the last thing I want to do is prove her right and right now I'm in a D-main, so yeah I am not happy right now and not very hopeful about my chance." - Angelina Hawk

Macena Motorsports optimistic about qualifying

After the Marlisle Pole Award qualifying and the qualifying races seeding, all Macena Motorsports drivers were saw talking at the pits:

Julia Ashcroft: 31st in qualifying, being on the B-Main is already good, since I won't have to race too much and won't be tired as people that raced the C, D and E mains. Now I'll have to take care of this car so we can do a better job.

Gabriel Macena: C-Main......this is not what I wanted

Isabella Macena: Well, I hope we can qualify for the C-Mains, and then the B-mains and the for the race

Aoi Mizushima:We need at least one car in the race, I think we can make it!

Timmy Welsch Optimistic To Get In The Smash Beer 500

Timmy Welsch, Driving the #1Q Patty Wagon Isanni, hopefully making his first start in the FARC Elite Series has been optimistic about making the field of the race the entire weekend. In the pre race he has been caught saying "I have a fast car, with the V8 and all, but I am kind of scared of the idiots wrecking me for whatever reason they think up." Welsch has been seeded into the 16'th spot of C-Main 2 for qualifying.

Ashley Tucker "embarrassed" by lack of speed in car

Usually, these sort of tracks are Ashley Tucker's forte, however, in the pole qualifying session, her 122nd qualifying spot does not back that up.

Tucker scraped into the D-Mains, starting 20th in D-Main 2. One more spot and she would have ended up in the E-Main, however, with how Tucker reacted, she made it out as if it may as well have been the E-Mains.

"This car is terrible." said Tucker "I'm embarrassed with how low we qualified. We need to get our shit together if we have any hope of doing anything at these bigger tracks."

Olenick "Hopeful" About Making the Race; Stewart Showing Promise

George Martin Motorsports driver Joe Olenick said he was "hopeful" about his chances, but acknowledged that making the Smash Beer 500 field would be a difficult task. "If we finish top 16 in every qualifier, we're in. There's our goal in a nutshell."

The team said that the car was similar to the one Bobby Stewart drove to a 4th place finish in the Rookie Shootout, as both cars were built in the same shop at the team's headquarters of Port St. Lucie, Florida.

As for Bobby Stewart, the Louisiana native appeared to have used the extra track time to put himself in a better position to qualify for the race.

"We managed to avoid the D-Mains, so we've got that going for us. We still have some work to do, but hopefully my debut in this series won't have to wait."

Mixed bag for Matthews bunch:
Matthews Motorsports' first year as a Saar team figured to be a mixed bag.

And in pole qualifying for the Smash Beer 500, it was exactly that. Elite Series veteran Ryan Matthews posted a time good enough for the D-Main, Rockford 200 participant Carter Fitzgerald ended up in an E-Main, and Street Stocks East Division champion Taylor Matthews posted a time good enough for her to be seeded in a B-Main: by far the easiest path of the three drivers.

"I'm shocked I was able to get in the B-Main," Taylor said. "For my first time in one of these cars outside of testing, I think I did really good. I'd love to be able to make the race!"

Her brother, Ryan, was less optimistic.

"I'm worried," he said. "We have a pretty good car in race trim, but we're in a spot where we have to race three times before we even smell the main event. A lot of things can go wrong, especially with new equipment like we have."

For Fitzgerald, her E-main seeding left a lot to be desired.

"I sucked," she said with a laugh. "It reminds me of Rockford, to be honest. Fortunately I'm pretty good at heat races. I just have to do well in four of them."

Howard Not Upset Despite B-Main Flip

Failing to qualify for the first race of the racing season might put a damper on most drivers in the field, not so with reigning FARC champion and three-time TM Master Cup champion Joseph Howard. Howard's new Lenard rolled early in his B-Main, eliminating him from the Smash Beer 500, but the Iowa driver refused to point the finger at one driver.

"Getting taken out real early is never good, but it's just part of racing, not much you can do about it." Howard said after the race. The Iowa native was slightly critical of FARC's new qualifying format, but seemed optimistic that the series could fix the problems it had.
"I think this qualifying format should stay off the big tracks and stay on the short tracks and the road circuits, but it's the first time FARC is using it, every time something new comes in, it takes some time to get it just right, and I think FARC has the right people to fix it. Maybe they should leave a transfer spot for the fastest qualifier that didn't make it through, or maybe for the big tracks make the B-Mains count for full points, because this is a great system for weekly shows."

Howard's streak of winning the season opener of every season would appear to be over unless team owner Tom Delgado swaps Howard into the race or buys a spot for him. When asked about this possibility, Howard shrugged it off.

"That's up to the team, you got the wrong guy!" Howard laughed. "If the team wants to do that then that's what I'll do."

Peter Irving-Gray Bemoans Double DNQ

Even though both of their cars failed to qualify for the Smash Beer 500, Peter Irving-Gray Sports's eponymous team owner was not pleased. Irving-Gray bemoaned his team's situation, as well as many of the drivers who made it onto the starting grid.

"FARC needs to think about it's fans, most of whom don't want to see a bunch of kids buy their way into the race. It's a shame that teams like ours miss the field when 75 percent of our employees served their country at some time in their life." Irving-Gray said.
"The fans want to see heroes, not a bunch of foreigners and kids, and there is nothing more heroic than a driver who has served their country. There's a level of respect that anyone should give to a veteran, and FARC isn't doing a good job of showing that right now."

Peter Irving-Gray's team, which did struggle with funding issues during the offseason, will contest the entirety of the 2014 FARC season. Neither of the Peter Irving-Gray Sports drivers, Harry S. Enola and J.W. Lester, could be reached for comment. The team also prepared the #619 car driven by Catholic priest Moe Lester, but Moe Lester's car also missed the field.

With Great Reluctance, Delgado Forfeits Front Row Starting Spot

Realizing his best shot at a second straight owner's championship lies with Joseph Howard, Tom Delgado has given up his 2nd place starting spot in the Smash Beer 500 for the defending Elite Series champion.

"It was gutting to see the TDR army all fall down. However, I owe it to my team to give Joseph the best possible shot at defending his championship...so it is with great reluctance that I give up my spot in the race for him. It's a shame too, I really felt I could win this thing. It is what it is, and I look forward to seeing Joseph jump start his title defense" Delgado said with a hint of sadness in his voice.

Gabriel Macena willing to buy his place in the race. Know the price and more details below

Gabriel Macena recently said on Twitter that he could buy his place on the Smash Beer 500, the price would be very high: a seat on the team at the Austin race. It was said that the driver that accepts it would drive the #264 and the team would receive a amount of money that could buy two FARC Elite Series cars with V8 engines, that would be originally taken by Aoi Mizushima and Maki Takae. Within those circumstances, Mizushima would be moved to the #277 and would race with Charlotte Elliott, a FARC Modifieds driver for the same team.

Official statement by the driver: "I would buy it.I don't care which driver or car is it. I would want to give it to the team. My chances were destroyed by a driver that don't know how to race (referring to Kurt Plissken). If I pay the right price, both driver and team can accept it.We'll be searching for all small teams and their drivers and offer this opportunity. I'm only doing it because several points are on stake, I won't care, if I need this I'll do it."

Welsch Furious After C Main Crash
Timmy Welsch in the 1Q entry was out of the Smash Beer 500 after a big crash taking out other C Main hopefuls such as Earl McDermott, Kelly Splison, Kenny Brillon, And Jon Halks. After climbing out of his Isanni, he was found kicking the car to the point of him ripping the front end off the car and keeping it as a souvenir in his trailer. in the infield while Welsch was kicking the car he said "See, I told you! Someone was going to wreck me!"

Olenick Survives Chaos; Driver Swap "Unlikely"

Joe Olenick survived the chaotic C- and B-Mains to race his way into the Smash Beer 500. Olenick finished 3rd, 6th and 8th in his three qualifiers after avoiding multiple wrecks caused. "People were really aggressive out there today," he said after the B-Main. "There were a couple of really bad wrecks. I think Jason (Bates, driver of car #2) got the worst end of any of them."

Bobby Stewart, the rookie who was looking to make his FARC debut, suffered a cut tire and a loss brake pressure in his #49 Lenard, resulting in a lengthy pit stop during his C-Main. Stewart finished 20th, four positions out of a transfer spot. "It kind of sucks that we had a problem like that take us out. I think we ran over some debris after that first wreck."

George Martin Motorsports announced that it would not be swapping out Olenick for Stewart. The team said that "Our drivers agreed before the qualifiers that there would be no ride-swapping if one of them made it and the other did not. We feel it to be a disservice to both the drivers and the crews to replace them on a whim."

GMM representatives stated that, for them, driver swaps "only happen in endurance racing or when a driver is otherwise unable to race."

Plissken Expected to Keep Grid Spot

If anyone had thoughts that Kurt Plissken would give up his seat to Rip Tyler to make amends for the 2013 Rockford 200 finale, they would be sadly mistaken. Plissken plans to run the Smash Beer 500 amid a swarm of controversy. Many pundits thought SPI owner Sergio Power would make a switch, but as it turns out, Plissken has other plans. Could Power force a change? Turns out the answer is a bit more complicated than it appears on the surface.
"It's not as simple as 'yes or no,'" Power stated. "Yes, Kurt is running under our banner-- sort of. But no I can't and wouldn't force a switch. He has his own deal in place. Since he is running the Master Cup series, he's basically an independent contractor of sorts with us. While both SPI and PSI are somewhat interrelated in some aspects, they are also completely separate entities in others."
Regardless, many think Plissken should bow out as a matter of principle. When questioned about this, Plissken remarked with a curt "No."
"Just like last year, I have my own agenda," Plissken responded. "What happened happened. Can't do anything about that. Same as this year. I'm in the race to win it. Nothing more, nothing less."
Then with just 7 laps remaining in B Main-1, Plissken ignited controversy again when he got into the back of the #64 of Leslie Riggs setting off easily the biggest melee of the day during the qualification process.
"It's not like I did it on purpose?!" a perplexed Plissken stated. "Shit happens. It was a racing incident-- plain and simple. It happens to me all the time, but you don't hear me bellyaching about it."

"There were wrecks in all the heats, but the only one it seems anyone's talking about is his," William Power queried.
"Most people don't understand what it's like out there-- and never will. Not making excuses, but when a Master Cup driver races in a lower tier series, we definitely have a huge target on our backs. Other people have something to prove and try to make a name for themselves-- sometimes at our expense. I just want to win. Yeah, it was a nasty wreck, but we had a good car plus I was running up front and probably had a good shot of winning the heat anyway."
Well, at least FARC found out how well built the the chassis design was! If the had been running the 2013 body style, there may have been multiple fatalities. But as it turned out, everyone involved will live to race another day.

Focus Autosports Leaves College Station Early, Both Cars Miss the Smash Beer 500

In the past week, Focus Autosports' part-time FARC Elite Series driver, Vincenzo Fochesato, has finished 8th in the series' Apex Racing School Rookie Shootout, while one-off Aubrey Wood finished in 5th at the Daytona International Speedway in the National Pro Cup Championship. Focus Autosports had two cars entered in the Smash Beer 500, both of them qualifying for the C-Main races.

Fochesato looked to be a contender for a spot in the main event, as he and Jennifer Duke dominated the first C-Main. However, his teammate in C-Main #2 was not so lucky, as Wood was caught up in a sizable crash in turn 2 and was not able to finish in a transfer spot.

Transferring to the first B-Main, Fochesato started in the mid-field, in the middle of the large pack of cars that formed at the start of many of the qualifiers. It was not until the pack had dispersed, however, that the #38 Lenard hooked two-time series champion Kurt Walker, sending the #98 car head-on into the turn 2 wall, and taking himself out of the race as well. The Ike Durbin, Inc. car of Tanner Clason was also collected in the incident, but was still able to transfer to the main event.

"I'm not so upset about not getting to race, but I feel terrible about causing a wreck like that" said Fochesato after his B-Main. "Accidents happen, but they shouldn't in a situation like that. It was my responsibility to lay off of the 98 when I got into him, but I raced too hard, and I'm going to go apologize to [Kurt] Walker's team. I know that won't fix their car, and I really wish that it could."

Van Gilder Impresses in B-Main, Involved in Vicious Multi-Car Accident

A staggering 150 cars took part in the Smash Beer 500 qualifying races for the first race of the brand new FARC Elite Series. From ARLA regulars to TM Master Cup race winners, the entry list also included dozens of unknowns, trying to make a splash onto the racing scene in the historic upcoming race.

Arguably, Rochester Hills, Michigan-native Nick Van Gilder made one of the best first-impressions.

While some new drivers ran very well in the "alphabet soup" series of qualifying races, Van Gilder's pole qualifying time was fast enough to earn him an 11th-place starting spot in the first of the two B-Mains, the races in which the top 19 finishers transferred to the Smash Beer 500. Van Gilder wasted no time making his way to the lead, getting by two M&J Racing cars in a three-wide pass to do it.

"We were fast all week, so I can't ask for more than that" said Van Gilder after his B-Main. "My team may be new to this level of racing, but that doesn't matter if we know how to make a car fast."

Unfortunately for Van Gilder, his #60 Saar Eagle MS would be taken out of the race in a gigantic accident on the frontstretch late in the going. While cars such as Lucas Sweeney and Ben Atkins, both of whom barrel rolled violently in the wreck, took the worst of it, Van Gilder sustained terminal damage, as well. He would be scored in the 20th position, one behind the 19th and final transfer spot.

"I was in the middle of a four-wide pack, and there was nothing I could do to miss that. Today just wasn't our day, and that's fine by me. We did well, and we can do just as well the next time we do this, again."

Um... Ceej.... Santos was in the 2011 Dwyer endurance race.  Razz

Ride Swapping Predictions:
Chris Johannes will give up his spot for Allie Riggs (why doesn't she have a hood logo? it sort of makes the car look unfinished, IMO)
Taylor Matthews might switch with Ryan Matthews

Ride Buying Predictions:
Rip Tyler and/or Libby Bell will buy their way in
Peter Irving-Grey Sport will at least end up with Enola in the race.

I don't think that post was worthy of a ban, Ceej. It was a simple correction with a tongue-sticking out emote at the end.

Electrical issue ends Azure's chances at qualifying for Smash Beer 500

After a sub-par performance in the Rookie Shootout, Frank Azure was feeling confidant about his chances at making the Smash Beer 500 in his first attempt for Tom Delgado Racing.  Due to a lackluster showing in Pole Qualifying, Azure was starting in D-Main 1.  Azure started on the pole in the D-Main and won it without challenge, transferring him into C-Main 1.  Azure's speed from the D-Main carried over into the C-Main as he went from 21st to 3rd in 2 laps.  Azure was in position to easily transfer to the B-Main and eventually the 500 until late in the race, the #87 Lenard suddenly lost speed.  They eventually fixed the issue but by then, Azure was a lap down and out of a transfer spot to the B-Main, thus failing to qualify for the Smash Beer 500.  Upon exiting his car, Azure was rather composed.

"The electric just quit towards the end of the race.  By the time I switched to the backup, it was already too late.  Which is a real shame because we had a fucking rocket this week.  The only issue we had all weekend was that we had botched Pole Qualifying and that put us in the D-Mains.  If it wasn't for that, we would have made the 500 easily.  I just want thank Tom Delgado Racing for giving me the opportunity to attempt this race.  Again, we had a great car all weekend that in my opinion could have made the race easy and I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of the season with these guys."

Azure, 53, will be in the #37 for TDR for most of the races it shows up.  After all of cars for his own team, FAC Motorsports also failed to make the 500, Azure would go on to watch his fellow TDR teammates, Jim Hayes and defending series champion Joseph Howard, attempt to make the race.  Both of which also failed to do so until team owner Tom Delgado, who was starting on the front row, gave his spot to Howard.

FAC 0-4 in Smash Beer 500, Azure: "Worst drivers ever"

When FAC Motorsports announced that they would enter four cars in the Smash Beer 500 despite the financial toll the team took last season, people thought that team owner Frank Azure was crazy.  That assumption seemed to be true when all four cars failed to qualify, including their full time entry driven by Nick Azure, already putting him in a hole to begin the season.  All four cars struggled in Pole Qualifying as Azure and Modified rookie Melanie Menendez were placed in D-Main 1, Regional Cup driver Frank Azzaretto in D-Main 2, and National Racing Championship regular Allison Wilson was in E-Main 1.  Azzaretto, Wilson, and Menendez have never attempted a Elite Series race before this week.  Due to the number of slow cars in the E-Mains, Wilson transferred fairly easily putting her with Azure and Menendez in D-Main 1.  The D-Main however was a absolute disaster for the team as Menendez was hooked by the #26 of Ray Lawler, causing her to turn into Azure, sending both of them into the wall as Azure flips over and slide back down the track on his roof.  This took both Menendez and Azure out of the race thus failing to qualify for the 500.  Azure was was his usual disappointed self upon exiting the car. However, Menendez was found shouting at Lawler's crew members after she got out of her car, until FAC crew members came to pick her up.  Wilson was never a contender as the struggling NRC driver finished 19th, out of transfer position.

Azure:
"I guess that is what you would expect to happen to us.  What makes this season any different any different from last.  I'm really starting to think the whole field has something against us to take me and Melanie out in the same wreck.  Already this season is looking to be as bad as the last one."

Menendez:
"Ray Lawler is a dumbass!  That was DEFINITELY the smartest thing do while 4-wide.  Not only taking me out, but destroying any chances of Nick winning the title before the season even starts.  I was just letting his crew know that."

Wilson:
"That's just unfair.  Every race it's always something. What did Nick ever do to anybody to deserve the luck he's had?  It's really starting to take a toll on him.  Him and Melanie were innocent victims in that."

Azzaretto, FAC's last hope to make the 500, had a quiet run in D-Main 2, finishing 12th, thus transferring him to the C-Mains.  C-Main 2 was going about the same until late in the race, Azzaretto hooks the rear of the 859 of Earl McDermott, turning him into the 137 of Aubrey Wood.  Wood's spinning car then clips Azzaretto's rear quarter panel as him, Wood, and McDermott go into the wall.  A few other cars piled into the wreck as well.  Azzaretto was able to continue the race, but the damage he sustained in the accident would make him off the pace for the rest of the race, unable to contend for a transfer spot.  As the race ended under caution, Azzaretto ended up finishing 17th, one spot away from transferring to the B-Main.  Azzaretto, who was know known for his anger issues in Regional Cup East last season, was clearly upset after the race.

Azzaretto:
"Go fucking figure!  Every fucking time things seem to go my way, I always manage to fuck it up.  If I wasn't suck a dumb fuck and wrecked McDermott and myself, I probably would have made it into the B-Mains.  But god forbid things go right for me.  Just like the East series last year.  Why the fuck do I even bother!"

Team owner Frank Azure, who was also trying to qualify the #87 for Tom Delgado Racing and was in the same D-Main as nephew Nick and Menendez, wasn't let known of what happened to them until after race (probably to keep it from affecting his own performance), but after Azzaretto failed to qualify, Azure quickly regretted his decision to enter four cars.

"I honestly must have the worst drivers ever.  Can these people go one week without wrecking or being completely anonymous.  This was absolutely the worst decision I ever made.  It's the biggest waste of money ever when you know none of your cars are making the race because your and every driver around you got their head so far up their ass, that it ain't even funny.  When you have a entry list this big, you're going to have a shit ton of them that don't know what the fuck they're doing.  I mean they almost killed Ben Atkins and the Pearson/Sweeney drivers.  These people need to get their fucking act together or somebody is going to die this week.  As for us, I ain't never entering this many cars again."

Azure will now get Azzaretto prepared for the Regional Cup East race here tomorrow as Nick will have to wait until next week at Columbia for his season to start.

Johnson qualifies for first Elite Series race; rubs it in FAC's face

Just days after his win in the National Pro Cup Championship season opener at Daytona, Chuck Johnson came into Texas with a load of confidence and it paid off.  Johnson qualified in the top fifth of the field in Pole Qualifying, placing the family owned team in B-Main 2.  Meaning all Johnson has to do is finish in the top 19 in his race and he would be in the 500.  Johnson started 10th in B-Main 2 and ran in the top half of the field for the entire race, thus avoiding all the carnage behind him.  The result was Johnson just barely being beat by Brenda Riggs for the win, but the greater reward was that Johnson has qualified for the Smash Beer 500, which will be his FARC Elite Series debut.  Upon getting out of his car, Johnson pointed towards the garage and shouted, "Suck it FAC Motorsports!"  Midway through 2013, FAC Motorsports denied Johnson's first shot at a major series when they considered him to drive their Elite Series car, but chose to keep Nick Azure when sponsorship was found.  Johnson claims FAC screwed him out of the ride, but FAC states they never promised anything to Johnson, but just expressed interest in him.  Johnson also took it as an insult as Nick Azure had 11 DNF's out of 21 races in 2013 and felt he could do a better job in that car than Azure ever could.  However, Johnson attempted the Rockford 200 and failed to qualify while Nick Azure did.  This time it was Johnson that was the one laughing as not only Azure, but all four of FAC's cars failed to qualify.

"It feels great knowing we're in the 500 and those hacks at FAC aren't.  We were in the front of the field the entire race and while the idiots in the back were busy wrecking each other, we were up front trying to make the race.  We're riding on a bunch of momentum from Daytona and we're gonna use that momentum to win the Smash Beer 500.  You hear that Frank Azure?  I didn't need you to make a start in the Elite Series.  Fuck you and your shitty ass drivers."

Johnson will also take part in the FARC LoBo Truck Tour race here, as he will run a limited schedule in that series along with his NPCC campaign.

Plissken Bashing Goes Global

Criticism of Kurt Plissken's involvement in the Smash Beer 500 qualifying race has gone to a worldwide level. With the help of social media sites, those leveling barbs at Plissken has reached a global scale. But through it all, the controversial Plissken seems unfazed.
After final practice, Plissken was asked, "What do you think of your competition and the remarks being made towards you?"
"Not much, " Plissken retorted.
"Okay, there you hav... hey wait! To clarify, are you saying that you don't think much of your competition or what's being said about you?!"
"Yes."
It was unsure if Plissken meant that as some sort of joke. He's a hard person to get a read on at times. One things for sure, this could be another opportunity for the grudge between Plissken and Anthony Griffith to play out on another grand stage.

2014 Smash Beer 500 Pre-Race Empty Re: 2014 Smash Beer 500 Pre-Race

Gaffigan carrying Smash Beer in 500

Stahlman Racing driver Kyle Gaffigan made a hero of himself in qualifying by climbing through the alphabet soup and placing his underfunded #80 Saar in the Smash Beer 500. The small Stahlman Racing crew celebrated Gaffigan's 13th-place finish in the B-Mains as if he had won.

In the meantime, Pearson-Sweeney Motorsports had all three of their drivers, Jason Bates, Lucas Sweeney, and Ralph West, miss the race after violent accidents in qualifying. This was especially disastrous for Bates, who was trying to make his first race in the famous #2 Lenard for Smash Beer, the title sponsor of the FARC Elite Series and the 500.

It was a situation that would normally call for a large team such as Pearson-Sweeney to seek a lesser-funded team and buy their spot in the 500 for Smash Beer. However, Bates, Sweeney, and West were all taken to the hospital for observation because of the severity of their accidents. Per the FARC rulebook, they would not be cleared to race even if a spot was found.

That was when the heroic performance of Gaffigan and Stahlman Racing caught Pearson-Sweeney's attention.

Negotiations were held in the evening after the conclusion of the B-Mains between Smash Beer and the two teams, which resulted in Stahlman and Gaffigan acquiring a small sponsorship deal from Smash Beer for the 500.

Gaffigan will carry the Smash Beer decals from Jason Bates' backup car, and key members of the #2 crew will be in the Stahlman Racing garage for the rest of the week.

Inbred hicks crying over Cyrus car

Once in a while, a team will bring a paint scheme to the track that stirs up controversy for a variety of reasons, as was the case when Leslie Riggs made her FARC debut in 2005 with the racy b Magazine sponsorship.

This week, Motor Assault Racing was faced with complaints from numerous Southern-based groups and individuals over Laura Cyrus' #3 Epps Synthetic Oil Isanni.

After initial confusion because these people are bloody hard to understand, it became clear that the outrage was directed at the car's number style and black base, which resembles the cars driven by Dale Schatz, a former late model driver who was well-known in the South.

Schatz is considered to be a martyr to some because of his conviction in the 2001 shooting death of an 8 year-old African-American girl, which he is currently serving a life sentence for. Motor Assault Racing's use of the number 3 seems to have offended these cretins, which include some of their fellow FARC competitors.

"How dare they mock such an important 'Merican figure," barked Team Burr driver Cletus McGuffie, "by puttin' that retard bitch in his car and paintin' Jap shit all over it! I'm gonna learn 'em a thing or two about r'spect! Doin' it for Dale!"

McGuffie and Cyrus were placed in the same E-Main, but McGuffie failed to Do it for Dale as he was well off the pace and Cyrus climbed through the alphabet soup to make the Smash Beer 500.

So far, Motor Assault Racing has ignored the complaints and threats of death by wild raccoons. Laura Cyrus herself was asked about the controversy, to which she only mumbled inaudibly. Hopefully the outrage will die down in the coming weeks and the hicks will quietly go back to their half-baked schemes to overthrow our government.

Reed hopes teammates get in

AJ Reed hopes that his teammates (Gabriel Macena's Team) get into the Smash Beer 500. "I really want to see my teammates get in the race and get some points to start off the season" he commented as he watches the Qualifiers from his motor coach. "I want my teammates to get in so I got some good points to start off with when I take over the car for some races later in the year." Reed will be competing in a number of select races this season in Gabriel Macena's second car, the one Isabella Macena drives in the qualifier.
