The Daytona Challenge Empty The Daytona Challenge

Post by flyingturns89 Tue Sep 13, 2011 8:09 pm

So while going through some things on ARCA's site, I found a list of drivers on their awards page with a the title for the award listed as "DAYTONA CHALLENGE". After looking at this list, I noticed two odd things about its contents.
1) Unlike all the other awards on the page, this award had no form of points, but instead had just a long list of drivers.
2) It appeared to be many drivers that had won races this season.

So, after some research on Racing-Reference.info, Here's what I was able to come up with. Every race after Daytona, the winner of the race was placed on the Daytona Challenge list. Here's where it gets complicated though. If a driver (*cough...Ty...cough*) wins more than one race, then the highest finisher not already in takes that race's position, so by the end of the year, there will 18 drivers on this list. What ARCA will do with these drivers I have no idea, but my thought is maybe an exhibition race next year. However, if it is, I already see problems with it, because they allow the same number to be on the list as long as there are different drivers in the car. For that reason, there are three #55 cars.

Anyways, here's what the list looks like with three races left:

Race #: Track: #_ _ Driver Name (If necessary, the position the driver finished and who actually won the race)
Race 2: Talladega: #41-Ty Dillon
Race 3: Salem: #55-Brennan Poole
Race 4: Toledo: #36-Grant Enfinger (2nd, Dillon won)
Race 5: New Jersey: #53-Andrew Ranger
Race 6: Chicagoland: #17-Chris Buescher (2nd, Dillon won)
Race 7: Pocono: #31-Tim George Jr.
Race 8: Michigan: #25-Max Gresham (2nd, Dillon won)
Race 9: Winchester: #22-Dakoda Armstrong
Race 10: Berlin: #32-Matt Merrell
Race 11: Iowa: #33-Cale Gale (2nd, Dillon won)
Race 12: IRP: #15-Ryan Blaney (2nd, Dillon won)
Race 13: Pocono: #52-Tom Hessert III (4th, Dillon won)
Race 14: Springfield: #1-Chad McCumbee
Race 15: Madison: #55-Alex Bowman
Race 16: DuQuoin: #55-Will Vaught (3rd, Buescher won)
Race 17: Salem: #68-Will Kimmel (2nd, Buescher won)
Race 18: Kansas: October 7th
Race 19: Toledo: October 16th

UPDATE: #68-Will Kimmel is in this whatever it is after finishing 2nd at Salem Speedway. #17-Chris Buescher won the race, but got in earlier in the year.
