Advocare 500 - Sprint Cup Series
The Sprint Cup Series enters the penultimate race of the season at the Phoenix International Raceway, where last year, it was absolute pandemonium. The race has been sold out for weeks, so it appears that people are on their feet for this race. Jimmie Johnson overtook Kenseth for the points lead after a dominating performance at Texas, and with Johnson's history at Phoenix, it's impossible to not consider him winning this race. Kenseth has one win at Phoenix, which was back well before the reconfiguration in 2002. Does Kenseth have a trick up his sleeve like at Martinsville, or does Jimmie continue his momentum to a 6th Cup championship?

Once again, Harvick is the closer.
at this point, Kenseth has to hope for trouble from Jimmie or has to drive his ass off.

Okay race. Couple of dicey moments for Johnson, but he held on for a top 5 finish. Very surprised that Kenseth dropped the ball today, and at the worst possible time. Johnson now has a 28 point lead, so next week's finale at Homestead might as well be a coronation. Oh, well. It was fun while it lasted.
Carl runs out of gas coming to the white flag and it allows Mr. Where-did-he-come-from himself, Kevin Harvick, to sneak in and grab the win, his fourth of the season.
The 2013 Advocare 500 @ Phoenix gets a 6.0/10.

I'm not upset that Jimmie has #6. He's done a fantastic job all season. Even today. He dropped back around the Top 20's after the Edwards/Harvick contact and came back to finish 4th 3rd. He deserves to win it. Not to say that just because Kenseth's car not handling at all means that Kenseth doesn't deserve it, but Johnson has remained more consistent IMO.

That race really hurt to watch. The finish was great and all, but the 20 team was just really, really painful to watch...
...and that really killed it for me, honestly. Not that Jimmie is going to win the cup (which he deserves after how the 20 team was today), but because the 20 team failed at every turn. To see them seemingly give up that early in the race was depressing.
They had a hell of a year, but they used up all their luck after Martinsville. All they have to hope for is Jimmie has a catastrophic failure VERY early at Homestead.

While I certainly didn't want to see Jimmie in this position, the guy truly deserves it after the fantastic season he's had. The 20 team just dropped the ball today.
Pretty solid racing overall though.

It's another title gone away from JGR. We'll see how Homestead plays out.

I didn't bother watching the race today, and I'm not planning on watching Homestead either. Nothing about the race should be worth watching to me unless Martin or Keselowski wins, which isn't very realistic at this point.
I'm not going to wish for Jimmie to crash/break next week, but I really hope that Kenseth can somehow win it. I personally can't stand to see Johnson and Knaus get another championship.

This was a hell of a race. Never seen so much strategy in one race! Great win by The Closer Kevin Harvick, he was the fastest all day...
As for the title hunt, I'm quite disappointed by how it played out. The 20 team were way off their game today and it basically gave it to Johnson. I was indifferent as to who won it entering today's race, however I would have liked to have seen it be closer.

The thing that sucks the most about this is we finally had a choice where it was realistically the best two in the series. That's what i'm more depressed about.
If i were JGR i'd burn that car after that run. But thinking extremely negative is not what real-life team owners do.

Very interesting race to see play out. JGR continues their streak of dropping the ball when it comes to crunch time, but I don't think they've quite dropped it as hard as they did today. By halfway, it seemed clear that the entire team, including Kenseth, seemed to have given up on trying to fix the car. Johnson appears to be on his way to a well deserved 6th championship, but I'm not going to start counting chickens.

Only way Kenesth wins the title now is if a hit is put out on Jimmie.
