Spoiler:
A Good Run Goes Sour for Wood @ CotA

Aubrey Wood came into the 12th race of the 2014 NPCC season with a points standings rank just inside the top 10. The #13 Focus Autosports team entered the week hoping to take advantage of the double-points event and gain some ground on the bigger teams ahead of them. Wood started from the 16th position, but despite the race being a lengthy 52 laps, it took a mere three corners for her to run into trouble.

Wood was turned around in an incident sparked by Rush McCloud on lap 1, but, fortunately, barely lost any positions. She would eventually work her way up to the seventh position, but overshoot turn 12 and crash into the #78 car of Alexis Farr... twice.

Farr made her displeasure with Wood's driving very clear after the second incident, and promptly turned Wood hard into the wall in the esses, forcing the #13 Lenard to finally pit for repairs and drop down the running order. Wood was scored in the 27th position by the end of the day. Wood has been rather crash-prone all season long, often causing trouble on her own when not getting caught up in other drivers' incidents.

Said Wood to reporters following the race, "I don't blame the 78 at all for wrecking me. I was hoping that she wouldn't be too upset, but I can't defend myself when I smashed her car up so much. I got a little bit of practice time here back in April in FARC and... wanted to put it to use today. Obviously I didn't do that; I tore up some cars and angered some drivers."

Despite being clearly dejected, Wood tried to finish on a more positive note, as she has many times seemed to quickly become more optimistic upon reflection of her bad races. "The only thing to do now is to try and put this race behind us and hope to do better at New Hampshire! This race may have sucked but we've just got to stay patient, keep working, and hopefully we can win one of these!"

Duke finishes last at Memorial due to stupid braking point being off, while Dusablon surprisingly retires for damage collected through the day. Cox gets double points finishing in 18th after getting caught up in multiple messes early. Angelina Hawk, in her own car gets a solid 12th place finish.

Both Duke and Dusablon didn't give a comment on the memorial.

"Sucks starting in the back and getting caught up in other people's messes, but hey, at least we got top 20 and got some points." - Betty Cox

"Last race I tried, I led 1 lap and crashed on the second. This time we finished all but one and have a solid result to show for it. I'm hoping this silence some of my critics." - Angelina Hawk

Cox suffers another engine failure and finishes last while Duke struggles again

Neither driver commented after New Hampshire.

Cox and Duke both collected in wrecks, results in poor finishes

Cox and Duke didn't comment about the race, but were heard to be screaming at each other, considering morale has been questioned, not having a top ten as a team since Round 5...

Betty Cox gets career and team's best finish after getting first top 10 in Daytona, while Jennifer Duke improves with her struggles but still nothing great.

"A 4th place run today feels like a victory. I haven't had a top 5 yet in my career until today. In fact, my best finish before today was at Daytona which was 6th so talk about being on a skid. I know a lot of people have been questioning this team since Jennifer and I were yelling at each other, but it's been pure frustration. I'm hoping this 4th place finish isn't the end of potential good runs." - Betty Cox

"I am proud of Betty for getting 4th. She really deserves to win after what happened to her. We are a small team and struggled like hell. But I'm hoping we can close this season with good runs." - Jennifer Duke

Spoiler:
Promising Start for Wood Ends with a Poor Finish

The NPCC's first visit of the season to a dirt track would also be driver Aubrey Wood's first visit to a dirt track. Focus Autosports has previous experience in only one race on dirt; June's FARC Elite Series race at Buffalo Downs in Wyoming. The team put what little they learned from that week to good use, as Wood was able to qualify an impressive 5th. She quickly made her way up to third and ran there for the first half of the race, but following a restart on lap 45, she was passed for the position by Andrea-Lynn Caldwell. Unable to find her way back to the inside line, Wood was freight-trained by the other cars, and she slowly dropped through virtually the entire field. By the time the checkered flag flew, Wood was scored in 15th.

While not available for an interview until after leaving the speedway grounds, Aubrey Wood would have this to say later that day; "I slipped up once and the whole field went by. There's no one else to blame for that but me".

Focus Autosports' #13 team, despite several strong showings throughout the season, still has yet to score their second top 5 of the season. The team's first top 5 was a 5th-place finish in the season-opener at Daytona 6 months ago.

"Even when the car is fast enough to win the race, I bring it home in the back. It's something different every week, but we can't get another top 5 no matter what we try. It's hard to stay patient, but there's really nothing else we can do. We'll get another good finish sooner or later if we keep it up".

Spoiler:
Expectations Go Unmet for Curtis Sawyers Racing @ Fonda

Curtis Sawyers Racing and driver Nick Van Gilder both have several years of experience racing on dirt ovals, more so than most of the other teams in the National Pro Cup Championship. When the series rolled into New York state for a race at the Fonda Speedway, many found the team's lack of performance quite surprising. Qualifying 19th in a field of only 21 cars, Van Gilder made up a mere 3 positions over 75 laps, finishing in 16th-place out of 19 finishers.

A collected but rather upset Van Gilder would say after the race. "This season hasn't been anything that we've been hoping for, and we've all been looking forward to coming here and having a better shot at doing well than anywhere. So it feels really [disappointing] when you never even break the top 15 all weekend."

CSR's #60 Saar and Van Gilder won a single race in last year's Ohio Valley Late Model Series season, and despite two 3rd-place finishes this year, the team's NPCC campaign has been largely lackluster, failing to finish well in races throughout much of the season.

"Everyone on this team could use some more top 5 runs from me, and I've been trying everything that I know. But maybe it's time to try something different; it hasn't been working all too well."

Farr calls out officials

Good Lord! They're are massive hippocrates, Van Gilder ran all over the #24 basically wrecking her, and when I give Van Gilder a taste of his own medicine, the officials get pissy. I refuse to fund any of those hippocrates pockets or start in the back!

Spoiler:
Wood Scores Second Top 5 of the Season @ Manhattan

"Where'd we place?! Where'd we place?!" The first words from Aubrey Wood over her radio after taking the checkered flag in the NPCC's 100-laper at the Manhattan Raceway Stadium made clear her anticipation of her results. Upon Wood hearing her team's official finishing rank, her crew chief was reported to have frantically removed his headset, proceeding to rub his ears in pain.

While Wood's reaction was exceedingly exuberant, she was not rejoicing over a victory, but rather a mere 5th-place finish. Focus Autosports and Wood had not seen the #13 Lenard finish in the top 5 since the team's first NPCC race, the season-opener at Daytona, barely a week into February. Several top 10s have followed, as well as several poor showings and wrecked race cars, but Wood was not able to replicate the results of her debut until last night.

"You have NO idea how much a 5th-place means to me! I don't care if it's 5th or 10th or what, but you can't say 'I haven't done this well since Daytona' anymore! I'm so happy!"

The team's 5th-place finish tonight was a vast improvement from their 15th-place finish at Fonda, where Wood also had a very fast race car.

"I felt like I just got a win, but maybe I'll know what that really does feel like soon! Juuust maybe!"

Spoiler:
Van Gilder Irate After Gatorade 100

Nick Van Gilder, Curtis Sawyers Racing's NPCC driver, has had a rather difficult 2014 season, to say the least. Following moderately successful late model bids in the last couple of years, the team has struggled to run up front in the NPCC on a regular basis.

At the Manhattan Raceway Stadium, a strong run by Van Gilder, including qualifying on the pole position, would end with a top 10 finish, but despite this, the events that transpired during the race had clearly upset the Rochester Hills, Michigan driver.

Van Gilder had choice words, in particular, for fellow competitor Alexis Farr regarding the lap 53 accident in which Farr wrecked the #60 car while she was running one lap down; "That was some, freaking bull crap from the 78. We finally get another good run and a lapped car wrecks us on a restart, and she said that I was out of line? I don't care about how slow she drives, but I care a lot that she completely robbed us of a top 3 run. She'd better get a big penalty for that [nonsense]."

Van Gilder would bring his damaged Saar Tyrant home in 9th place at the end of the night. There have been reports that CSR has been struggling to meet the series' demands and handle its own car repair and replacement expenses with a budget similar to that of the one that they used last season in the Ohio Valley Late Model Series.

"This NPCC experience hasn't been like any other series we've raced in, and it's not the bad finishes that are hard to deal with as much as the circumstances that have caused a lot of them. This is the stupidest thing that's happened to us yet."

It should be noted that the interview with Van Gilder took place after he was informed of Farr's post race comments towards the incident. According to radio communications immediately following the lap 53 crash, Van Gilder was more confused than upset, and not directing any negative statements towards the #78 car. It is possible that his attitude towards the incident was different before hearing Faar's comments.

Nick Van Gilder: She thinks that I wrecked the 24? Is she blind? How on Earth was it my fault when the 24 hooked me?! How am I supposed to not come down the track when my quarter panel is hooked without spinning out? I guess she thinks that it was my fault for having a solid car. Someone like Farr should know better than to blame me for that.

Spoiler:
Aubrey Wood: Oh my gosh! We got another top five, again! I'm so happy that we've been so much faster on the short tracks and we've got some more coming up! To everyone who's had to put up with my bad finishes all year; thank you so much, I love you for it! I promise some more great runs!

Spoiler:
Heavy Crash Takes Van Gilder Out @ Kil-Kare

Last weekend's NPCC race at the Kil-Kare Raceway saw 8 cautions over the course of the 100-lap event, the final one being brought out when Star Banner crashed into an opening in the backstretch wall. A subsequent accident was sparked by contact in turn 4 between Andrea Lynn-Caldwell and Nick Van Gilder. Van Gilder's car crashed into the end of the pit wall head-on, and Arthur Gordon was also terminally damaged after hitting Van Gilder's #60 car.

Outside the racetrack after the accident, Van Gilder had this to say to reporters; "We haven't had much speed here all week, and I felt I was getting better until I hit the #1 car, and then we wrecked again. I bet you that Farr is gonna blame that one on me, too, but there's no use trying to teach basic logic to her; she's too thick-headed to understand it. But for the #49 team that got caught up in that, I'm sorry; I was running on the inside line when the #90 swerved down the track and knocked me into the pit wall. I know she didn't mean to do it, but I didn't have time to do anything to avoid crashing."

Van Gilder was scored in 15th of the 21 cars that started the race.

"I have to apologize to the #34 team, too, for that spin earlier. I pushed up into the #04 and caused that one on my own, but anyone who thinks that the lap 80 crash was my fault is a blatant moron."

Re: 2017 BAAR Super Pro Series season (Race 2 @ South Boston is up!)

Post by Memoriesallbutdone on Sat Sep 27, 2014 9:09 pm

Breaking News! Betty Cox calls it quits after this season. Will not return to racing in 2015. Cites poor runs and mechanics for her reason leaving primarily.

(OOC: Silly Season news. Why? Cause why not? Razz )

Betty Cox has had enough. After finishing 18th in a 19 car field, Cox got out of her car and simply said "**** this ****! We continue to run like complete ****! I'm ****ing done! No way in hell am I coming back after this season because we suck so freaking bad!" She went storming off before she came back out for an explanation for her behavior. "When you suck as bad as we have this season, moral goes to an all time low. I've gotten I think maybe 2 top 10s then season and top 5, and road courses are supposed to be one of my best courses, but **** it, no reason we couldn't have done a lot better today. I have lost all desire to continue on after this season. I have a family at home who also deserve better then this. I have invested so much time to make a career here, but to continue to have poor runs, mechanical failures, and overall ****, then **** it I'll do something else with my life and not be back."

Jennifer Duke, who 14th after running close to and in top 10 in early stage also commented. "We are a new team so yeah we are going to struggle, but her losing her mind like that wasn't called for. She never got over the fact she shot herself in the foot and threw away a possible victory. Ever since then, she expects to be amazing everywhere and yes sometimes while the car isn't perfect and can give up, part of it is the driver. Of course, I'm disappointed with this decision but hey, I'm not going to try to change her mind, she clearly has her mind made up."

I need to be more active:
Rei Takita: 9th. It's...pretty good, I guess.
Joshua: 13th..could've been better..we might race again next season. 65% possibility if we can get the funding.

Betty Cox gets another top 10 and continues to struggle as Jennifer Duke just struggles

Betty Cox has just been avoiding the media ever since her post race meltdown so she didn't comment on her 10th place finish.

Jennifer Duke has spoken with the media though. "Betty and I are still great friends off the track but she has seriously lost her fire to be at the race track. It's a bit of a shame, but I understand why she feels the way she does. I've been talking with the engine makers of our team so I'm hoping that means good news in the way of things to come because they are saying they learned a lot from where we are competitive and struggle. As to what will happen with the 04 car, not sure yet."

Angelina Hawk gets 3rd in qualifying, as Bridgette Dusablon gets 25th, Jennifer Duke gets 28th and Cox rounds out the field in well...last.

"I'm hoping I can do a lot with this great starting position. My last race we got wrecked by a couple of idiots, so I want to do better then my 12th place awhile back." - Angelina Hawk

"I'm happy to be here. Hoping I will do decent since the first few races for me haven't gone well." - Bridgette Dusablon

"Let's finish off this season and try to do better then our 27th place starting spot." - Jennifer Duke

Cox went right to her trailer after qualifying.

Certainly. Wink

I was going to wait until after I've posted the California 300, but why not, I'll go ahead and open up registrations for all three NPCC series for 2015.

You may have up to three cars for each series, but only two can be full-time.

RACE 24 (THE FINALE): CALIFORNIA 300

(OOC: No commentary this time, due to the fact that I've been under the weather for the past week or so and I currently can't talk all that well due to a very sore throat, so here you go. I might reupload it with commentary at a later date, unless someone is interested in doing commentary for me, but for now, this is it. I'm sure you guys would rather listen to the awesome Mega Man music than my commentary, though. Laughing)

Will you consider APRS D-List?

If you do, this means that Kelly Ashcroft (2014 APRS Champion) is a Level 8 driver and Bianca Dawson (8 full-time years in APRS) is a Level 7 driver?.

Technically, APRS is still a Minor Leagues series, which is in the E-Class, so no... unless Cooper says otherwise.

A reminder: if you are sending me ratings, remember that the Super Pro Series will use ALL EIGHT DRIVER STATS, but the Late Models, Sportsman, and Compacts will use just FIVE OF THE DRIVER STATS. ROAD COURSE, SPEEDWAY, AND SUPERSPEEDWAY WILL NOT BE USED IN THE LOWER TIER SERIES.

That is all.

Illinois Racing Brothers to NPCC

Illinois short track racer John Ross is running full-time next season in the National Pro Cup Championship Sportsman Series. Ross, 28, will also be fielding a part-time entry for his 20-year old brother, Dustin. Both cars will be sponsored by the American Melanoma Foundation (I know this goes against canon rules, but I, the poster, really have had Melanoma several times in my short life time, if the Mods approve of such a measure). John will drive the #16 and Dustin the #17.

I assume ratings must be sent in via PM? Also, I have not entered directly into the chart yet because my account, which I applied for a few days ago, is still yet to be approved.

Real sponsors are allowed everywhere but FARC, and in FARC you can get a real sponsor in, depending on the reason (this according to FARC sposnorship rules). So, I think this would be an OK sponsor.

The frowned upon sponsors are listed in here => Sponsors Restriction and Painting Information
