Camping World RV Sales 500 -Sprint Cup Series

Post by navycook75 on Mon Oct 14, 2013 6:22 pm

After a very surprising finish in the spring race that resulted in a Front Row Racing 1-2, we return to the Talladega Superspeedway for the 6th race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, and knowing the typical Big One, this could change the championship.

Entry list here Only one car will go home as Elliott Sadler withdrew because sponsorship was taken off the market. Austin Dillon will be back in the Stewart-Haas #14, and Cole Whitt is in the Swan Racing #30. Surprisingly, Paulie Harraka isn't on the entry list despite the fact he was supposed to run this race (and honestly, I think it's a good thing he isn't on there.)

Paulie Harraka's presence would result in The Ultimate One, in which all 43 cars are wiped out.

I'm away the entire weekend, I've already had to miss one restrictor plate weekend, I don't want to miss another.

Great race, but that was a weird ass ending. You'd think that with 10 to go, everyone would start going three wide jockeying for position, but it went... single file. Okay... Neutral

Bit of an anti-climactic finish, although the Dillon wreck was just unreal. Another thing, he drove away. Holy hell basket, dude.

GG McMurray, being out front at the right time. Junior's fourth runner-up finish this season.

Overall, this was a damn good race, just a bit of an anti-climactic finish at the end.

The Camping World RV Sales 500 @ Talladega gets a 7.5/10.

There's a lesson in why you don't wait for the final lap to make your move. That was a great race all around excluding the final laps. McMurray has proven himself as one of the best restrictor plate drivers today.

Would be nice if the first 90% of the race meant something. I took a nap midway through the race and didn't miss anything. Still one big pack, nobody able to stay in the front due to their merits or drop off the pack due to their... well, terribleness.

As is the nature of superspeedway racing... wait for the last 10 laps, and then where you are is where you'll end up unless someone else in front of you crashes.

That's kind of debatable this time around, but whatever. To each his own.

Honestly, I thought the last 10 laps would just get down right crazy with some of the racing we were seeing, but then, everyone just got in single file, and I think a lot of people went "WTF just happened?" Honestly, the last 10 laps were the biggest disappointment to an otherwise good race.

I know what you're getting at...but if anything this time around it's like the last 10% didn't matter, as everyone waited till the last minute and still didn't pull it off.

Nice Dega race. Lot more dicey this time around up until everyone gave up with 15 to go. Scary wreck at the end with Dillon and Mears...Glad both got out okay. We don't need TM Canon death storylines (Windshield deep hits) becoming real life.

McMurray wins. I'm okay with this...Pretty much everyone's reaction other then Ben going nuts. Razz

Good win by Jamie! Junior could've won, but hey that's racing.
The only problem i have is the BUTTHURT fans...

*OMFG, LET THEM RACE TO THE FLAG*
*Nascar stop changing the rules, let them race...*
Even though Junior didn't win, legit caution... but it makes me want to smack the sense into the fans...

The caution being thrown was understandable. Austin Dillon just about ate catch fence while i wasn't sure if Casey Mears was still alive.

I know it's a shocker, but there was an actual good reason for that yellow. I know, I know, it's hard to believe that NASCAR throws a caution for a good reason, but there was a crash on the racing line and Casey Mears's car was destroyed.

Plate racing has always been that way. It confused me when so many complained about the two car tandem drafting. For some reason they'd rather watch drivers pick a lane and see where they end up than have the ability to set up passes and actually race each other

Racing back to the line would have just caused the Dillon and Mears crash to be bigger, or there would have been a huge crash again in the tri oval. Good call by NASCAR to throw the yellow, imo.

Decent race. Meh finish. Really weird how loose the cars on super speedways are now. Dillon spun after getting areo-loose off of Stenhouse Jr. Kenseth's car seemed to be wrecking loose all of the 2nd half of the race. Ambrose spun just by changing lanes. So pretty good effort that only 4 cars crashed. I'm generally surprised that Dillon didn't even complain about a sore back in his interview. Also disappointed in ESPN that they didn't give an interview to Stenhouse or Menard. Guess the only way for a non-chaser to get TV time is to win.

Racing back to the line would have just caused the Dillon and Mears crash to be bigger, or there would have been a huge crash again in the tri oval. Good call by NASCAR to throw the yellow, imo.
Yeah, let's not forget the reason why they got rid of racing back to the line.

Don't tell that to some of these fans. They'll accuse you of that not happening, and NASCAR pussifying things... oh yeah, also to include from that video, guys getting their laps back racing back to the caution... the reason they made the lucky dog rule... oh wait, the lucky dog rule is a rule that NASCAR instituted to help Danica No

Fixed, since lucky dog came around in 09. (right?)

I can't tell if you're kidding but it's at least from 2004 because when Wally would get the lucky dog on the Busch series they would have him sing a little song over the radio.

The Lucky Dog was implemented in 2003. I remember it from when I was watching my very first races.

That's what I thought but I wasn't entirely sure. That's when I started watching as well, Bristol in August 2003 was the first race I watched all the way through.

It was implemented when they got rid of racing back to the line, so lapped cars weren't totally screwed when a caution came out.

Sounds right, as that was in 2003. Somehow I've never known that's why the free pass was actually created.

Mine was that year's Daytona 500 (that is, if you count that one as a full race)! As I was 5, I watched Rockingham the next week expecting to see another Ryan Newman flip, and I've watched most every race since!

I know the Lucky Dog has been around much longer than Danica is in NASCAR, I just said her name because that's just how some of these "fans" operate
