2013 United States Grand Prix - Formula One

The penultimate round of the 2013 season is at the young and exciting Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Lewis Hamilton won last year in a thriller with now 4-time world champ Sebastien Vettel, who is riding a 7-race winning streak. What will happen Sunday. It should be a good show (if someone stops Vettel).

Some people have asked me what's the difference between Jimmie Johnson and Sebastien Vettel.

My answer?

Sebastien Vettel is more likable and is a much more entertaining and dynamic personality than Jimmie Johnson. I'd go so far as to say he's Michael Schumacher reborn. I mean let's be honest here, he does burnouts after he wins, which is very rare to see in Formula 1. That's pretty cool, in my opinion.

I'll agree that he's boring, but for someone to be almost a championship away from tying Petty and Earnhardt is amazing, and if there's anybody to break the record of championships, it's Jimmie, and I honestly think it's going to happen, I also think he's probably going to break the triple digits in wins (and I want to watch the anti-Jimmie fanbase shit enough bricks to build a life size replica of Indianapolis when it happens.)

Vettel on the other hand, he is close to breaking Alberto Ascari's consecutive win record, and is only 4 wins away from tying Ayrton Senna for third all time in wins, and to think that Vettel has done all of this in only 6 full time seasons in competition, which means at this rate, Vettel is going to more than likely break Schumacher's win and championship records.

So pretty much we're seeing history in the making in two major racing series, and that excites me.

While Jimmie is somewhat boring, I doesn't really bother me all that much. What bothers me is a few other things. One is how whenever he makes a mistake, he has a tendency to blame it on anything other than himself (although recently he's been doing this less often), and he often gets upset at others if they race him the way he races them. Personally, I just don't have a whole lot of respect for him.
Also, whenever he wins, it's disappointing for me to watch because it also means a victory for Chad Knaus, who I simply have no respect for.

Without a doubt, Johnson is one of current NASCAR's most talented drivers, but I'm not convinced that he should be regarded as up there with Petty and Earnhardt yet, not with half of his 6 championships (assuming the 6th one) being won as a result of a mid-season points reset.

Pretty much this. I think that some of the guys, including myself, that have been getting bored of hating J.J. are probably getting tired of NASCAR's antics with the officiating and how boring the races have been these days.

Although Vettel can be a bit of a spoiled brat at times, he's a respectable driver and does have a personality (a funny one, at that). He's actually earned the championship titles unlike J.J., though, as much as I hate to admit it, J.J. does deserve the title this year given that he's been consistent throughout the season.

Good debut for Kvyat FP1, only 0.2 from Ricciardo and Kovalainen also impressed on his return also only 0.2 from team mate Grosjean..however, easily the most impressive driver was Rodolfo Gonzalez who came very close to out pacing Chilton, only 2 seconds away from him

I honestly did not expect Vettel to get the Pole.

Well that didn't take long for a safety car to come out.

While I find it to be true and hilarious, it should be noted that this is coming from someone who couldn't keep an F1 car still while driving in a straight line.

Vettel gets 8 in a row, that's a new record for most wins in a Season.

I'll give Vettel this he's trying to make the sport fun when the stereotype about F1 is it's a bunch of rich snobs.

After hearing what my dad has told me about Mario Andretti, he would probably do the same thing. My dad has nothing but horrible things to say about his attitude and the way he conducts himself.

It's one thing to dislike your teammate and walk out on him (Looks bad on team but it happens when people are frustrated)...It's another thing to walk out on a press moment with one of America's legendary drivers just because you don't like your teammate. Webber's making himself look like a spoiled brat when walking out of the sport, while Sebastien is looking like the respectful veteran of the sport and having a nice moment with a living legend that he might be along side in legacy terms a few years from now.

Here's a thought, what if Mark couldn't hear Mario over the crowd? Mark already had his head turned away from Mario when he motioned to Mark. I think people are making a bigger deal out of this then they should.

Mario, shmario. Maybe he see's Mario the same way I do, overrated. I really don't know why people make such a big deal about him. He won an Indy 500, so did Gil De Ferran. Ok I'll give him the Daytona 500, as well. Any competent racing driver could win the F1 Championship in that Lotus which could run circles around everyone else. So I personally don't see what the big deal is about Mario. I think there were better racers in Indycar, and Formula 1 the same time that he was racing.

Look, I don't know all about this vendetta you seem to have against Mario Andretti, but Mark Webber is a driver in the most popular racing series in the world. He got to the podium in one of the biggest markets for racing, which F1 are currently attempting to reclaim, and he is approached by one of the greatest legends in American racing to take one picture. Literally all he has to do is stand there for, like, five seconds, wave, and leave. But no, he has to burn his little bridges and say "Screw my commitments as a figure in the public eye! See you in sports cars, biotches!"

It isn't a vendetta, I just don't see him as god of Motorsports. I think drivers like AJ Foyt, Rick Mears, Emerson Fittipaldi, and Al Unser Sr, are better than Andretti. Andretti only won one CART Championship... Plus he acts like a know-it-all. (See his comments about the 2014 Schedule) I just don't make him out to be this huge legend everyone thinks he is.

While they did have equal equipment, Peterson died with 3 races to go! His Daytona 500 finishes were nothing spectacular outside of his win... And he won the CART championship ONE TIME!!!

He won the championship in a car that was so revolutionary a monkey could win in it... With something like 4 races to go, only the two Lotus cars could win the title. And Mario locked it up once Peterson died! Granted, he was beating Peterson in points at the time, however Peterson had two of his best tracks left, Monza and Watkins Glen. Hell, the Lotus was so good, that Peterson still finished 2nd in points despite dying with 3 races to go! Excluding 1977 and 1978, which Lotus had a huge advantage due to Ground Effects... Mario only has won 2 RACES, 1971 South Africa, and 1976 Japan.   Mario Andretti had 19 wins in Indycar... to compare that, Dario Franchitti has had 21 in the Izod Indycar Series, and 10 in CART/Champ Car. His best finish in the Daytona 500 outside of his win was 29th! If anything, Mario was A VERY hit-and-miss driver!


I think Mark Donohue and Peter Revson could have won F1 Championship had they not have died. Plus I have to give credit to Dan Gurney, who won an F1 Race in a car he PERSONALLY BUILT!

Still doesn't change the fact he's a legend in this part of the world.

"Equal machinery"!? Please. It's well-known that Chapman favoured Andretti over Peterson, even going as far as to make Peterson use the older and less competitive 78 at Monza when Andretti's spare 79 was sitting around unused.

If an American did it to an Australian legend it would be equally as disrespectful. I don't know what's so hard to understand about this...It's about having manners rather than be a twat cause you don't like your teammate, Mark could go out of the team respectful and then complain about how they screwed him over, But because he can't deal with his teammate's sucess, he'd rather snub someone who is viewed (No matter WHAT YOU THINK PERSONALLY) in the public's eye as one of its greats, which makes him look like a total asshole.

It's fine to walk away from your teammate because you don't like him, but for you to do that when you have probably the greatest driver of any discipline of all-time and not take a photo with him for walking out in that state is just borderline disrespectful and classless.
