Daniel Miller suffers career-ending injuries after Sussex GP

Daniel Miller's triumphant racing career has come to an abrupt end after a horrific crash on the last lap of Race 2 of the Sussex Grand Prix at the Hammer Motorsports Facility. At 3:12am the day after the race, Miller was moved from a serious to a critical but stable condition, however, the injuries sustained to Miller's legs means that he may not only never race again, but never walk again either.

Miller broke the barrier after contact with Ashley Almendinger, however, Miller's car got stuck on a part of the wall that did not give way, and the barrier penetrated the car on the left side where Miller was sitting. It was believed the barrier hit Miller's legs, causing severe injuries to his leg. Miller currently has an 85% chance of surviving.

Miller was the 2010 Dash Cup champion with Atlantic Motorsports, and drove for Atlantic Motorsports and SuzukaCorp in 2012 and 2013. Miller won 4 races, most recently the 2012 Brands Hatch GP with his ex-teammate Carla Rosinski in 2nd. Miller's replacement in the 9x is currently unknown.

After his accident with 3 laps to go, Phillip Nelson was said to have "minor injuries" after his roof was hit by Jacob Tremblay, however, it's believed that Nelson's injuries are actually expected to be worse then first thought.

Spannerhead Racing update.

Spannerhead Racing and KFC Australia Autosport will complete the takeover sooner than expected now after Phil Nelson announced he's retired from Dash Cup after an horrific crash in turn 1 at Sussex. Magenta Nelson-Andrew will step into the car for Oulton Park, then between Races 8 and 9, K.A.A will takeover the team and run out the season with Ben Clarke.

Arakaki to Replace Miller Indefinitely

Japanese touring car driver Kai Arakaki had been scheduled to attempt his first Dash Cup race at Spa, but after a SuzukaCorp. press release following Daniel Miller's career ending accident, team owner Hideo Suzuka announced that Arakaki would take over the 9x for the foreseeable future. SuzukaCorp. has not enjoyed much success in 2013, with only a couple top tens in seven races. Arakaki was originally scheduled to attempt a third car at Spa, and all indications are that it will still run.

Suzuka also made it clear that the first thing on everyone's minds were Miller and wished the best for their driver.

Dash Cup Statement after Sussex

On the weekend for the Oulton GP, Ryan Truro, the CEO of Dash Cup released a statement on the website after news was revealed Ashley Almendinger intentionally turned the #9X of Daniel Miller exiting turn 5 at the Hammer Motorsports Facility, causing Miller to have a huge crash that left him with career ending injuries. Here is a direct transcript from Truro's statement.

"Thank you all for joining us today. Firstly, we need to again send our apologies out to Daniel Miller and Phillip Nelson, and all of their fans, family and friends as their careers were cut short by events not of their own doing. We hope that the two continue to be a part of the Dash Cup community in some form, whether it be part of a team or part of the officialdom, but as I say, we hope this isn't the last we hear from either person. Now, relating to the incident between Ashley Almendinger and Daniel Miller on the last lap, we received the news that one of the rumors saying Almendinger turned Miller on purpose was true. We do not take intentional wrecking lightly here in Dash Cup, however, the penalties usually consist of a points penalty and a probation, or a suspension depending on the severity or context of the accident. We will not be taking any stricter action against Ashley Almendinger, and she will receive a 30 point penalty and she will be on probation for the rest of the year because of her actions.

However, due to the rise in intentional incidents in Dash Cup this year, and with the severity of this incident, we have decided that the next driver to cause an incident which is deemed intentional will be suspended for at least three races. Of course, this will be able to get appealed, but if it's blatant, the chances are the appeal will fail and you'll just waste our time, and yours. We will also be less lenient on the intentional wrecking of lap down cars by the leaders. This was a problem in Russia then it came back as a problem in Sussex. If lap cars continue to pay little attention to blue flags, which also seems to be a recurring thing, they will also be parked for a race. We are not having this low quality of racing anymore, because it puts the drivers health at risk, and if the driver continue to play games, then we won't have them. It's as easy as that.

About the incident involving Jacob Tremblay and Phil Nelson, Jacob Tremblay has been handed a 3 race probation and a 10 point penalty for his part in the accident, however, as Nelson was impeding on Tremblay for a while, and Tremblay did attempt a clean move on the outside before turn 1, we took this incident with a pinch of salt and decided to not make the penalty as harsh towards Tremblay.

There have also been rumors about new car models being released for 2014, however, questions about the 2014 season will be answer another time. Thank you."

(tl;dr version is the stuff in bold.)
