It's just a suggestion, you don't have to respond.

Ringer for Glen. I'm going to say Max Papis
For the rest of the year. Either Smith, Dinger, or Labonte.

I had a feeling he would take over for the race, he's the right choice.

So it's Papis, huh? Who will he be smacking in the face on Sunday? Or will he be smacking Victory Lane on the rear in joy?

Not a bad choice. I'm curious to see how well Papis will do in a decent Sprint Cup ride on a road course.

Owen Kelly, just because I can. Plus, it turns out that the guy's actually a really good wheelman in the Nationwide series. Certainly been more notable than he ever was in the V8s at any rate...

Don't know if any of you guys have already heard that Max Papis will be in the 14 for Watkins Glen.

Re: Tony Stewart's replacement
I knew it would be Papis, JV, Patrick Long, or another ringer for the glen. Papis is probably the best ringer without a cup deal.

Do you really wanna hire a guy who drives like Buckshot Jones?

Re: Tony Stewart's replacement
For the non-road course races I would give someone who isn't destined for the cup series a shot in a cup car. Justin Allgaier and Cole Whitt would be good choices. Or maybe give someone like Mike Bliss or Johnny Sauter another shot.
Re: Tony Stewart's replacement
Just a random thought, what if Harvick got out of his ride early? And got the 14... Then they would throw Austin Dillon in the 29 for the rest of the year. It is a longshot, but it could happen.

Re: Tony Stewart's replacement
Even though I said earlier during the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky that I thought that Bobby Labonte's career was close to being done, I think it would be an awesome blast from the past to see him fill in for Stewart after Watkins Glen.

I do actually think Austin is a decent driver, I just think he drives over his head way to often and tends to make other stupid mistakes. The Bristol Night race was proof of that. Plus he's really disappointed in cup so far I'd like to think he'd be getting top-15s and top 20s, but he's not been getting them and has been out paced by Danica this year, though I know it may be an equipment thing.

Re: Tony Stewart's replacement
He's in a car in cup that's part time/shared with another team. If you're expecting greatness from a part-time driver you're insane.Mother of Invention wrote:Alta wrote:This is what 13 year old kids believe.Mother of Invention wrote:Spannerhead29 (Nelson) wrote:It's going to be Austin Dillon.

I'd like to think he's faster then Danica, I know I said on facebook I'm holding a grudge from the Bristol race last yaer, but still I'd like to think he'd at least be consistently faster then Danica.
I'm really disappointed at him more then anything.

Danica is in a SHR car is what people forget. Dillon's in a shared effort car between RCR/Falk/Circlesport/whateverMother of Invention wrote:I'd like to think he's faster then Danica, I know I said on facebook I'm holding a grudge from the Bristol race last yaer, but still I'd like to think he'd at least be consistently faster then Danica.

Re: Tony Stewart's replacement
I was under the impression any time Austin's in the car it's a 4th RCR car with nothing to do with Circle Sport/Phoenix except the number which Richard I'm sure pays them to use the owner points for. If there is involvement from Falk or Finch then yeah I'd be inclined to be more lenient towards Austin.
I guess what I'm trying to get at is. I had to high hopes for Austin and I have been to hard on him.

I'm not a Dillon fan but he is a driver of exceptional skill. He may be a rich kid who got his ride because of his connections, but he's a talented rich kid who got his ride because of his connections.

Good. I think Dillon is a good driver, but he needs to focus on Nationwide. I wish it was someone without a ride, but Martin is good.crl wrote:If this is true, it's not a surprise:

As a substitute driver, who knows how well Martin would do. I believe he got a fairly decent finish subbing for Hamlin at Martinsville. Regardless, I'd get to see more Martin!
