FIA announces "Formula E", to debut in 2014

Ten cities, with the first race in Los Angeles. Could this be why Ecclestone wanted to buy the Long Beach GP?
Anyway, I give this a year at best. What say you?

“Los Angeles is the car capital of the world."
That line made me laugh...
I doubt it will even see the first race!

I kind of like the idea of an all-electric series. But it's probably going to be poorly done, so who cares?

The chassis and engines seem cheap and efficient, so I'd imagin there would be a fair few teams and drivers...

Here's a car in Moscow. Listen to the engine; sounds like something in a kid's toy:

This reminds me of Formula Lightning that ran from 1994-2004.
Fun Fact: Ohio State won most of the championships.
Also, I don't know why everybody is saying it's going to suck, I actually look foward to it.

That sound isn't the engine but rather the transmission, it's a very normal sound.

Never heard of Formula One or NASCAR driving through city streets. Not sure why everyone mocks it, this seems like a good idea and also a good step forward for motorsport with a more environmental outlook to engines. Better for the development of road cars as well.

Who lives in Monaco or the UAE who is not a tax evading sportsmen or a rich sheikh? Singapore has a minute population and the likelyhood of the GP Port Imperial actually happening is virtually 0.

Singapore has a population of 5.3 million. On what scale is that minute? And I'm pretty sure Bernie won't give up so easily on the Port Imperial GP.

Then again, they are not your typical street circuit that is confined in a city like Monaco, Singapore, or Valencia. They are more roads that go about parkland

Abu Dhabi = not a street circuit.
Anyway, not to mention, the buttload of IndyCar street races (Long Beach, Detroit, Toronto, etc.).

Formula E (planned):
London-8million, plus another 8million in south eastern borough's.
Roma-2million, plus another 10million in the region.
Los Angeles-4million
Miami-500,000, with a large amount surrounding in nearby cities
Beijing-21million
etc.
Not to mention, tickets are likely to be a lot cheaper than the £100+ you pay in Formula One, not to mention no need for parking which usually costs around £40 as well...

Take every race car that has gearwhine, remove their engine sound and that's basically what you get. That's basically the transmission as pointed out.
Re: FIA announces "Formula E", to debut in 2014
The problem with bringing Motorsport to the people is that you then end up with a bunch of idiots who don't know a damn thing about the sport and just generally annoy those who are devoted fans, this is the reason I don't tend to film bigger events, because of the large amounts of people who have decided to bring their spoilt, fat little 6 year old along who will bitch all day because there isn't a TV in front of his face. Or those who just stand in your view because they have the IQ of a golf club, unfortunately bringing Motorsport to the people has the downside of pushing real fans away and I know a huge amount of people who would back this up. Besides, a decent amount of the places that will host Formula E already have circuit's that are perfectly fine within relative distance. London has Brands for example, and the reason the other countries don't have many race circuits is probably because they're not interested, just look at the Turkish GP. The new tracks will be soulless, bland Tilkedromes anyway, and we don't need more of them.

Re: FIA announces "Formula E", to debut in 2014
Brands Hatch is around 1h30/2h away from Central London where I live, so it's a fairly large commute. Surely bringing those who don't know much about motorsport into this world could help the future of racing? Not saying I particularly like half of the inbred you mentioned, but if you bring the interest toward them perhaps it increases interest in motorsport and this makes it more attractive to sponsors and youngsters to become part of it. If you look at the size of Formula Ford and even then the British junior Karting Championship (Super1 Comer Cadet) the entries are low(er than they have been previously). Perhaps with more interest leads to more entries and therefore it's better further up the ladder as well. Maybe with the potentiality to see a larger grid in Formula One or Indy like they used too.

I hate to do this, but...
Central base of many British celebrities.
One word: HOLLYWOOD.
And, lastly, numerous rich drug cartels (ever seen Scarface?).

Majority of London are citizens however. Doubt all 8million of those living in London are celebrities. Only celebrity that lives anywhere near me is Hugh Grant, and I've never seen him anywhere near his apartment.
EDIT: Actually, I believe he moved out.
