UNOH Battle at the Beach
For the first time, THe Nascar Whelen All Am,American Series, Whelen Modifieds and K&N Pro Series will race on a .4 mile Short Track Located on the backstretch of Daytona!
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The inaugural UNOH Battle At The Beach will feature unprecedented live flag-to-flag coverage as the showcase event for the NASCAR touring and weekly series Feb. 18-19 at Daytona International Speedway.
SPEED and the Motor Racing Network (MRN) will broadcast the feature races on Monday, Feb. 18 and Tuesday, Feb. 19 from “The World Center of Racing,” beginning at 7 p.m. ET each night. The MRN broadcast will also be streamed live at www.motorracingnetwork.com and carried by SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
The two days of competition during Speedweeks will include three non-points special events – featuring the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, the NASCAR Whelen Modified tours and the Late Model division of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. The racing will be contested on a .4-mile oval located on the backstretch at DIS.
For the first time, NASCARHomeTracks.com – the official NASCAR.com site for the touring and weekly series – will host live streaming video of the practice rounds and heat races throughout each day leading up to the main events. Coverage will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday and 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
“From the drop of the green flag Monday morning for the first practice through the checkered flag Tuesday night on the final race, fans across the country and abroad will have an opportunity to follow all of the great short-track action in the first-ever UNOH Battle at the Beach at Daytona International Speedway,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president, regional and touring series. “This one of a kind event features our series’ top drivers, including stars of tomorrow and a host of talented veterans. It’s fitting that as we break new ground with this event, we team with our great partners across television, radio and the internet to provide an unparalleled level of coverage.”
Race winners and series champions from the 2012 season earned locked-in spots into the respective series events. The remaining spots in each of the 34-car fields will be decided through heat races, and a last-chance race if necessary.
A top lineup of motorsports broadcasters will be on hand to call the action from the short-track at Daytona. For SPEED, that lineup includes:
• Monday: Bob Dillner (play-by-play) and Hermie Sadler (analyst) will be in the booth, with Ray Dunlap as the pit reporter.
• Tuesday: Mike Joy (play-by-play) and Larry McReynolds (analyst) in the booth for the Whelen Modified race, and Rick Allen (play-by-play) and Phil Parsons (analyst) in the booth for the K&N Pro Series race. Bob Dillner will be the pit reporter for both races.
For MRN, Kyle Rickey and Alex Hayden will be in the booth, with Steve Post covering the action in the turns. Pit reporters will be Woody Cain and Buddy Long.
The heat races, which will set the starting lineups for the evening’s racing, will be voiced by the team from Speed51.com: Bob Dillner, Matt Kentfield, Adam Mackey, and Elgin Traylor. The video stream of the practices will be voiced by public address announcer Ken Squier, the legendary NASCAR broadcaster, and Joe Coss, an announcer at Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway that has been voted the winner of DIS’s UNOH Battle At The Beach announcer search.
In addition, NASCARHomeTracks.com will debut “Race Central Live powered by Speed51.com,” which will provide real-time updates and photos from the Speed51 staff of reporters and photographers for the entire event.

A. she is the first black female driver to obtain a Nascar LicenseAntmanB wrote:Uh , who?
B. She is the daughter of Bobby Norfleet, who (and this is from Wikipedia)
Norfleet qualified 11 miles per hour slower than the pole speed (at Portland), but made the race after 33 cars qualified for 34 spots. He finishing 32nd after he suffered handling problems. He was also black-flagged three times by NASCAR for not maintaining the required minimum speed.
In the next race at Pikes Peak International Raceway, Norfleet's entry was denied by NASCAR officials, as he was not licensed to run tracks larger than a mile. NASCAR requires drivers to either show proficiency on shorter tracks, or have some experience on one mile and larger tracks in a lower series before they are allowed to race on larger tracks. Norfleet claimed the decision was racially motivated, and people protested outside NASCAR's headquarters. After failing to qualify for his next race at Evergreen Speedway, he stopped running NASCAR.

Norfleet's lone NASCAR start was a Truck Series race at Portland in June 2000. He was also a member of Alan Kulwicki's championship-winning team in 1992 (helped Kulwicki build the cars). Kulwicki was planning to have Norfleet race in the Busch Series before Kulwicki's fatal plane crash.

29 cars on a .4-mile track that barely has two grooves. Of course there's going to be a lot of crashes, NASCAR, you morons.

Didn't watch the race (was uploading pictures from my Canada trip, getting stuff put back away, and didn't realize the race was on). How classless a finish are we talking about?!?

Kyle Larson bumped CE Falk once coming off of 4; Falk bobbled, Larson hit him again, and Falk spun into the infield, as Larson took the checkers.

I dont get NASCAR fans. Earnhardt drives like that for 20+ years and is adored by millions. Kyle Larson does it in a non-points race and gets booed for it.

Uh, I was at Bristol in 1999 when Earnhardt wrecked Labonte. The only sound you could hear once all the cars pulled off the track was BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Sounds like it was just do what he could to get the win.
Not unless there is video evidence that makes it look much worse than it sounds

New generation of NASCAR fans; new expectations. Because fans liked Earnhardt doing that back then doesn't mean people would like if someone did it now.

Yeah... don't see your logic there.
Honestly, this race was ten times better than the crapfests we saw Saturday. And yes, Larson pulled a pretty cheap move, but honestly, what else do you expect from short track racing?

As much as I don't like the move, he did exactly what you said. He was giving all he had to win.

Re: UNOH Battle at the Beach
Kyle Larson had the popularity and respect that even Sprint Cup drivers wish they had. Key word in that sentence: had.

First one was a normal bump. Second one he hooked Falk in the left rear.
Larson was gaining my respect with the racing he was doing with that damaged car. He lost it with that move.
The final wreck summed up that whole race, initially hilarious but when you look back on it absolute fail.
Larson's got 2 more races on that track. Don't be surprised if the favor is returned.

Re: UNOH Battle at the Beach
Ok, saw a video came up on YouTube.
Dirty move? Yeah, but it was the last lap off the turn. This happens early in the race, I say park his ass, but it's late in the race, going to the checkers.
Besides, I thought NASCAR fans wanted excitement and finishes where it was hair raising and something to talk about... oh wait, I forgot, NASCAR fans complain about that too.

Re: UNOH Battle at the Beach
It was dirty, but not quite as bad as people are making it sound. I only saw the finish on youtube, and I was expecting something like him just not braking in turn three and killing him based on what I was hearing.

You obviously have a different definition to hair raising than me. That wasn't exciting. Exciting would have been if Larson got side by side with Falk, not wrecking him. So no, NASCAR fans don't complain about an exciting finish. They just have opinions. People just try to find excuses to go after others when they don't agree with them, I guess...

The battle at the finish was fun as hell and Larson could've just accepted since he's got two more shots at it but decided to straight up dump someone to win the first race.

I'm fine with Short Track racing, but the track they set up was absolutly garbage. They didn't even bother to put up an infield wall... Speed hyped the race up to be the Superbowl of Short track racing, when the race shouldn't have even covered live...

Whether or not we liked the move tonight (I particularly wasn't fond of it), he's certainly garnered himself some attention, which for any young driver like him is very important no doubt.
