There are a few people I know through family connections on that grid. My dad use to drive for a team who's full time drivers induced Boris Said, Shane Lewis, and Peter Cunningham in World Challenge Racing, so I always pull for Boris, even if he's in a 'Vette.

A couple of other notables
* Hurley Haywood is the grand marshall this year so his place at the Brumos car (which if you don't know is basically the GT equivalent of the Petty #43) by Bryan Sellers
* Former champ Kelly Collins is making his comeback in the TruSpeed Porsche #80.
* Audi has four R8s.
* No sign of Autohaus Motorsports who used to run Jordan Taylor and Bill Lester. I think Bill Lester was going to one of the Mueller Porsches but I'm not sure.
* No Patrick Dempsey this year.
* Theres a #27 DP team running a car that I believe is a 2004 model (!)
* Krohn Racing is out of Grand Am and Tracy Krohn is now a driver for TRG which is running Porsches for this race instead of their new Aston Martins.

Orbit on pole in GT Shocked
Porsche 1-2-3 Very Happy
The BTE Sport DP car was on the tail end of the GT field
Ganassi 1-2
Brumos and AIM deep in the field.
Quite a few surprises intermixed with some predictable events.

Qualifying Notables:
DP Top Ten
1. #01 - Pruett / Montoya / Rojas / Kimball - Ganassi Racing BMW Riley
2. #02 - Franchitti / Dixon / Hand / McMurry - Ganassi Racing BMW Riley
3. #42 - Nonnamaker / Pagenaud / Cameron - Team Sahlen BMW Riley
4. #6 - Cumming / Valiante / Goncalvez / Yacaman - Shank Ford Riley
5. #90 - Garcia / Gavin / Taylor / Westbrook - Spirit of Daytona Corvette
6. #60 - Allmendinger / Ambrose / Negri / Pew / Wilson - Shank Ford Riley
7. #2 - Bourdais / Daizel / McNish / Popow - Starworks Ford Filey
8. #99 - Fogarty / Glidley / Gurney / Law - Gainsco / Stallings Corvette
9. #3 - Davidson / Lamy / Potolicchio / Minassen / Sarrazin - 8Star Corvette
10. #50 - Beck / deQuesada / DeFoor / James / Pace - Highway to Help BMW Riley
* A guy who works at the place I have a summer job is crewing for the Highway to Help car. Brian Johnson isn't driving but he is running the team more or less and is raising money for his foundation.
* The Velocity / SunTrust car was deep in the field as was the Action Express car.
* The BTE Sport car qualifyed around the tail end of the GT field
* Notable drivers in DPs (not in Top 10) include Christain Fittapaldi, Nelson Piquet Jr, Jordan Taylor, Max Angelelli, Ryan Hunter Reay, Colin Braun and Paul Tracy.

GT
1. 32 - Christenson / Englehart / Tandy / Willsey - Orbit GMG Porsche 911
2. 44 - Armindo / Lally / Lietz / Potter - Magnus Racing Porsche 911
3. 30 - Cisneros / Edwards / Giermaziak / Pilet - MOMO NGT Porsche 911
4. 73 - Graeff / Hart / Lindsey / Long / Pumpelly - Park Place Porsche 911
5. 63 - Balazan / Frezza / Pierguidi / Beretta - Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458
6. 24 - Albaquerque / JArvis / Mortara / von Moltke - Alex Job Racing Audi R8
7. 62 - Bachler / Maassen / Seefired / Snow / Snow - Snow Racing Porsche 911
8. 57 - Edwards / Liddell / Magnussen / Milner - Stevenson Chevrolet Camaro
9. 64 - Longo / Matos / Negrao / Serra - Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458
10. 69 - Assentato / Cosmo / Lazzaro / Longhi / Wilkins - AIM Ferrari 458
* Audi has four "customer team" R8s, but their lineups are stacked with factory drivers such as Frank Biela, Markus Whinklehock, Felipe Albequerque, and Edoaurdo Mortara among others.
* Boris Said (one of my favorite drivers) is listed as the driver of both the Marsh Racing Corvette (#31) and the Turner Motorsports BMW M3 (#94). Not sure how that happened, but he must have a pretty good agent. As I mentioned before I'm a big fan of Boris because he ran on a team that my dad was on in the late 1980s and early 1990s in SCCA pro racing. Long Live Team GRR!
* TRG (despite allegedly being in a partnership with Aston Martin) brought three Porsche 911s to the Rolex and have a strong lineup in both.
* The pole is a shocker. Last year I met a crew chief for the Orbit GMG team and they had five pay drivers one of whom required a Ukrainain women to sit on the pitbox because the driver (Miro Konopka) didn't speek English. Now they are on the pole in the 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup that they ran last year.
* Clint Bowyer and Michael Waltrip are in a Ferrari 458. There was supposed to be a second MWR Ferrari that was supposedly going to be driven by Ferrari factory drivers Luca Badoer and Mario Ciccoci but the deal fell through.
* Kelly Collins, the 2007 Rolex Series champ who hasn't had a ride in years is back, driving a TrueSpeed Porsche 911.

GX:
1. 16 - Canache / Donahue / Lewis / Norman - Napleton Porsche Cayman
2. 38 - Davis / Eversley / Foss / Mosing / Tecce - BGB Porsche Cayman
3. 25 - Carbonell / Long / O'Doski / Whitis - SpeedSource Mazda 6
4. 00 - Miller / Nunez / Pigot / Terada / Vaultier - SpeedSource Mazda 6
5. 70 - Bomarito / Franchitti / Tremblay / Hinchcliffe - SpeedSource Mazda 6
6. 22 - Clay / O'Young / Rogers / Thomas / Thompson - Bullet Racing Porsche Cayman (NO TIME)

All Ricky Taylor needs is for Mr. Telmex himself Memo Rojas to crack under pressure and he'll have the lead.
What was that about being in the Corvette class only, Wayne Taylor?

I've always liked the Rum Bum car. Same with the Spirit of Daytona DP.

Anyone else see Wayne Taylor go into full Nutjob mode? I already find the whole "Ganassi are bad guys" attitude hilarious enough, but to suggest that Chip would stoop so low as to retire one car which at times was just as competitive and even faster then their lead car, just to change brakes is hilariously moronic. I think I finally found something that tops the whole BS from Indy last year Laughing

The Napleton is the best. My dad painted a Porsche 944 in that same livery.

It seems like the DP contenders are Ganassi (#01), Shank (#60), Starworks (#2), the Wayne Taylor car, and maybe the Action Express car with Joáõ Barbosa.

And a shot at the Rolex 24 win slips away from McNish once again.

Montoya could do something stupid and throw it away. Also if someone try to pass him JPM won't hesitate to wreck them.

Except he's driving the 01, a car that actually is in the points all season long so under a more stringent watch from Chip, he won't. Seeing as he hasn't wrecked anyone for position all race long even with all the opportunities he had, I think the message has gotten through to him.

We should do an EFR endurance race that isn't in a series but has a few teams each from the Master Cup, ARLA, Lights, RROL, and Dash Cup. Like Dwyer but not an ARLA race.

Like a race with drivers from all different series in this canon running prototypes for 24 hours? 24 Hours of (insert track here)?

And I hope Barbosa gets a penalty for that. Jumps the start and runs A.J. off the track.

Not 24 hours. Maybe 6. And likely in stock cars because there are already canon makes and paint schemes.

17 minutes to go and they're all talking fuel mileage. Interesting for an enduro

If I was Wayne Taylor I wouldn't bring the car in. If it runs out and DNFs you'll still get at least a top six in DP.

Sad to here that Brumos Racing is shutting down later this year Sad

Good win for Ganassi. They'll be the season champ without doubt. Nobody can come close.

Unfortunately, because all of the other engines are crippled.
