I guess someone had to be the fall guy for their lack of progress.

Re: Norbert Haug leaves Mercedes
It was about time! He was actually underachieving with Mercedes. Most of the success came either from massive overspending (DTM, the old one at least, and FIA GT), or profiting from the work of others (McLaren, especially at the end of the 90's, BrawnGP, Penske at Indy '94). But Mercedes' list of failures is almost equally long:
- Not really caring about CART after 1994.
- Their infamous "flying" Silverarrows at the '99 Le Mans race.
- Having only won one (!) DTM championship in the last six years...
- ...and completely screwing up the second half of this year's DTM season, eventually losing the title to BMW. Oh, and drivers' champion Bruno Spengler has just made the switch from Mercedes to BMW.
- They managed to drive away most of their top drivers from their DTM squad: Paul di Resta (Went to F1), Bruno Spengler (Went to BMW), Jamie Green (Will race for Audi next year). They're now left with Gary "McLaren won't even let me into tooned" Paffett, and a bunch of more (Robert Wickens) or less (The rest) talented scrubs.
But it will be interesting to watch Mercedes pick up the pieces of their motorsports programmes...if they'll actually bother to pick up the pieces.
