NBC's F1 broadcast team for 2013 is...

Post by crl on Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:19 am

Diffey, Hobbs and Matchett; and as a bonus, Diffey will replace Bob Jenkins on IndyCar.

Buxton's status is TBD.

Defiantly watching more Indycar, grew up with Diffey doing V8 Supercars, love his commentary.

Kind of surprised to see Bob Varsha not sticking with the rest of the F1 TV crew, tbh. I'm okay with Diffey though. He always knows how to make any race exciting.

Great job by NBC for putting that team together, although abit sad the old trio won't be together. Just wasn't a F1 race with Varsha, but I'm glad they at least have Diffey there. Guess that means Bob Varsha will be filling for the sportscar races on Speed.

Varsha himself says he has a "pre-existing contract" with SPEED, and that's why he's not making the move. Plus, Varsha's 61; he probably doesn't want to change networks this late in his career.

But no Paul Page for NBCSN's IndyCar coverage... Well, maybe ABC will put him back in.

Nope, Last I heard, Paul retired after the NHRA finished up this past season.

Is there even gonna be a SPEED next year? I keep reading that its gonna become some other channel but at the same time, things like the ARCA Schedule and even the ALMS Schedule keeps showing Speed for 2012.

There'll be a SPEED, at least for 2013, because Varsha says he'll be doing Grand-Am.

Even so, great news (late or not). I'm glad to see that NBC basically stuck with what worked for F1 commentary and didn't screw it up, something many people worried about with them now broadcasting F1.

And on this day when the team is officially, completely unveiled, all four of their Twitter accounts get verified:

OK, I know this topic is over two months old, but Varsha has been dropping hints on Twitter that he may be called in to sub for Diffey when needed.

Bob Varsha will call the Malaysian, Belgian, and Korean Grands Prix. Leigh Diffey will be off handling IndyCar duties in St. Pete, Sonoma, and Fontana, respectively, on those weekends.

I'm glad that Varsha will get to call the F1 races for old time's sake. I'm really looking forward to both the F1 and IndyCar seasons.
