Car Selections

Post by antknee on Thu Oct 25, 2012 12:16 am

I am leaning toward a draft style where the order is randomly assigned. This will allow people to participate that aren't always glued to the forum. Seems like the most fair way to go about it.

First-come first-served, from my experience, is never a good idea. It's better to pick entries that you like instead of automatically letting in crap entries by people who you feel may not deserve to get in. This may not make as much of a difference with the entire field being pre-painted, though.

yes, that's the idea but I need a way of deciding who gets to pick ahead of others. I thought I'd take registrations like normal, toss out the rubbish and then randomly assign a "draft" order.

You could have people list their top 5 or so picks, then assign drivers based on those picks so it isn't as random.

I quite like this idea, just my opinion however. You should do whatever you think is bet.

I now want to change my vote to draft as I shouldn't have voted in the poll

You could assign draft positions based on when someone registered for the site. That way, there would be some sort of "seniority" (for lack of a better word) weighted for the people who have been here longer.

Would this idea use the old forum.

number the cars randomly from 1 to 82 and for those who sign up, add their day and month of joining this forum together and the number you get is their car. If the car is already taken by someone add the last two digits of the year they joined to your total. Someone improve on this if you can as it isn't a particularly good idea.

I voted for first-come first served, but now I've changed my mind. I mean giving people just random cars would be much better.

Lotto style works
Snake's idea works

But I'm particularly attracted to Ceej's idea. Everyone who signs up picks 4 or 5 in their order of preference, and then use whatever method you want to determine who picks before whom. That way as many people as possible can get a car they actually picked

ok, i think i've decided to make it a hybrid of all three major suggestions. one that will allow for seniority and a bit of randomness.
