Dale Jr. to miss two races.

BREAKING NEWS: Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will miss the next two Sprint Cup races at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway after being diagnosed with a concussion following Sunday's race at Talladega Superspeedway. Regan Smith will fill in for Earnhardt in the #88 at both races. SPEED will have more on the story as it becomes available.

And now rumours are AJ Allmendinger will return with Phoenix Racing in the #51.

Why him? I hardly ever noticed he had a concussion, I mean he drove Jimmie Johnson back to the pits after the race.

He's had concussions in the past, it's not surprising that might cause another. I saw him take a couple of hard hits so that could have done it.

wait, Regan Smith will have a Hendrick ride?

All I know now is that he'll finish last in Chase standings.

The crashes he had in 2002 and 2003 looked more severe than this one though, so I can't work out how this will force them to miss races.

Back then the only thing we knew about treating concussions was to let them rest up a bit and send them back out. Obviously, that hasn't worked out so well in the NFL. With the current understanding of concussions, we know he's going to need to sit out a few races in order to guarantee that it heals properly

On the twilight zone side of things, back in June, I compared Jr's good points standing with Sterling Marlin when he was doing well in the points. Then Marlin was injured in a crash and couldn't make a run at the championship

Wow. Not what I was expecting. While I hope Dale Jr. has a speedy recovery, I'm really excited about seeing Regan Smith get a legitimate ride for the next 2 races and A.J. Allmendinger making his return to NASCAR. This, for sure, has already been an interesting weekend. Man, I hope Regan Smith proves to everyone that he can be very competitive.

I have to admit this is about the last thing I expected to hear. I wish Dale Jr. a speedy recovery. However, I can just hear the ratings and track attendance taking a huge plummet.

Now, what happens if Smith wins both races?

If Smith runs well, someone will want him

Also, i read on Nascar.com that Rick Hendrick would like to put Regan in a full time NNS Car. Which is a good option for him

Man, this was surprising. Sucks to hear my favorite driver won't have a shot at the chase, but this is for the best and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Hope Jr. has a good healthy recover. Probably done when he got rocked by Labonte.

I now think so to, I feel sorry for him. But it's just part of life and Racing, drivers miss races with injuries or illnesses but tbh I never saw this coming.

It was because of his testing crash at Kansas about a month ago hurt him a bit and after his wreck last week he said that it made him very disoriented and after talking to a neurosurgen, he wasn't cleared to race. Full transcript is on Jayski.

Well this certainly came out of left field, I remember Junior and a few others taking quite a pounding in that wreck. Wish him a speedy recovery.

I'm excited to hear Regan Smith is going to be in the car and may be in consideration for a Hendrick ride in Nationwide. He's the most underrated driver in the series and this will be his true test.

Allmendinger getting the 51 is nice to hear, Can't do worse then Kurt did with that car.

Ratings are going to tank though. Same with track attendence.

Sad and surprising to hear, but Junior wasn't going to win the title, anyway.

He started a race at New Hampshire but was releived by Martin Truex Jr. after 40 laps or so into the race.
