I really hope Ganassi doesn't turn Larson into another Atwood or Logano.
At least Logano has got it together this year
Good point, I just meant it took him a long time to get his first non-rain win.
True, he's also a chase contender
Larson's a bit more of a Raw prospect the Logano was, but In the end I think he'll do fine. Definitely a better prospect then Reed Sorenson.
True, probably ROTR in 2014.

I've been hearing rumblings around that Newman is going to the #47 car next year with an RCR technical alliance forming.

Nothing on Jayski yet, but keep your eyes peeled.

Speaking of #47.

Labonte was transported to the hospital by ambulance where he was diagnosed and is being treated for three broken ribs. There are no other injuries. He is being held overnight for observation.
An update on Labonte's condition will be sent when determined. Mike Bliss will replace Labonte in the No. 51 Phoenix Racing entry this weekend in Atlanta.

Tbh, I think it's gonna be a career over for Bobby. Not saying it to be mean about him because I like him, but if he comes back even when he's fully recovered from his injuries he'll perform even worse at the Cup Level. I'd retire him for his own good.

Yep, finally official. inb4 Larson becomes the new Joey Logano.
Kyle will be better than Reed Sorenson, EGR has improved this year, and had Hendrick engines, and isn't the 3rd car of a team, He won't win a race, but will get good runs imho

The only way that Montoya can go out of NASCAR in style is to win an Oval race before the 2013 Season ends.

Where's Ryan Newman when you need him? For Burton though, I think it could be a possible career over for him. He has not done much since winning at Charlotte in 2008 and making the Chase in 2010, and with not much other rides left open he may have quite a real struggle trying to stay in the Cup Series.

Anywhom...I did see this coming after recent rumors. It looks like Burton might be calling it quits or at least is scaling back to part time...Hearing he might be going to the TV booth in 2015.

Also Mark Martin seems to be calling it quits as well. He'll be Danica's driving coach and a test driver for SHR next year.

This silly season has been turning out to be rather interesting.

Jeff Burton-Not surprised. He hasn't really done much for the past couple of years. I've last heard that he would get into politics once he retired but hearing him going into the booth is interesting.

Ryan Newman-With Jeff Burton being gone, I can see Ryan Newman taking over that spot. I don't know what the word is with Austin Dillon but I figured he'd be a candidate for that spot as well.

As for who could be in the 78, please don't let it be JPM, if there's anyone that deserves to be in that ride as of now, it's A.J. Allmendinger.

Personally, I feel the best thing that FRR can do with their team is put Burton in the #78, and have a second part time car for some development drivers that they are looking at. That way they can find a more permanent driver for that car.

As for the #31, I have a strong feeling it will be Newman, but I completely disagree with it. In my opinion, Ryan Newman is never going to win a Sprint Cup Series championship. He hasn't had a season with more than one win since 2004, and he has yet a score a top five points finish, yet he has at both Penske and Stewart-Haas been in equipment that is capable of winning a lot of races. He just is not doing that though.

It's going to be Montoya, Dinger's got JTG...Burton going to lower team ville, Martin seems to be finally retiring, Labonte's got a management deal with JTG. Unless they want to risk a random backmarker....It's going to be Montoya.

Montoya's been fast as of late.

Stremme out of ride after Richmond? UPDATE: Sources in the NASCAR Sprint Cup garage have confirmed that Saturdays NSCS Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond international Raceway will be the final race for driver David Stremme at Swan Racing. Stremme is also a minority owner in the team. Nationwide Series driver, Cole Whitt, is expected to race the car at Chicagoland Speedway next week.(Popular Speed)(9-6-2013)
UPDATE: Swan Racing announced that Cole Whitt will drive the #30 Toyota beginning at Chicagoland Speedway on September 15, 2013. Whitt replaces veteran driver David Stremme who drove every race for Swan Racing this season except for the Daytona 500. "We welcome Cole Whitt to Swan Racing as the team builds for the future," said team owner Brandon Davis. "Cole is a very talented driver with a bright future and we are eager to see him compete for Swan Racing. I also want to thank David Stremme for his commitment to the team and for helping me learn so much about the sport in my first full season in NASCAR." Whitt is currently scheduled to drive the #30 in 4 other races this season including Kansas, Charlotte, Talladega, and Phoenix. The team will finish off the season using as many as two other drivers. Those drivers will be named at a later date. "We are going to take a look at a number of young drivers this year as we begin to prepare for 2014. It is important that this team take continued steps forward in every aspect," Davis said. "I am thrilled to get back to racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Swan Racing. I told Mr. Davis that I will give him all I have to make this team successful," said Whitt.(Swan Racing/Tuckahoe Strategies)(Swan Racing/Tuckahoe Strategies)(9-6-2013)
AND David Stremme appeared surprised by an internet report that he would be out of the Swan Racing Toyota after Richmond International Raceway. Ill be honest, I dont know what the hell is going on, Stremme said by phone Friday morning. No one has told me anything. I thought was going to Chicago (next week). When FOXSports.com asked Stremme if he had ownership in Swan Racing, he elected not to comment.(FoxSports)(9-6-2013)

A bit disappointed to see Stremme go, as he's had a few decent runs this year and I do't know if he'll find another opportunity, but really excited about Cole Whitt. Great to see him getting some more runs after JRM let him go, I think he still has potential.

The interesting thing about this is the fact that I believe he is a minority owner in this team, but just got completely ousted.

Cole Whitt was good last year, had several top 5's & top 10's. Finished 7th? in points, but sadly sponsorship wasn't there...

Johnson wants changes to NASCAR officiating: #48-Jimmie Johnson called for major changes to the way NASCAR officiates races on Wednesday, four days after two high-profile incidents at Richmond International Raceway continued to be the talk of NASCAR. Johnson proposed halting a race with a red-flag to review any questionable circumstances, similar to an NFL-style replay timeout. "In my opinion, if there is a question they don't know, they need to stop the race immediately," Johnson said during a promotional event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. "Red flag, pits are closed, figure it out and make the best judgment they can."

Keep the best straight face you can.

So, races can take more time than they already do? Shut up, Jimmie. God, I hope your cold streak lasts the next ten weeks.

Swindell will drive for Swan Racing: Swan Racing will have its third different driver in as many weeks as Kevin Swindell takes over the #30 Toyota next weekend in New Hampshire. Swindell is also scheduled to drive the following weekend at Dover. Swindell is a four-time consecutive winner of the Chili Bowl who currently competes in the Nationwide Series. He's run 10 races with Biagi-DenBeste Racing with a season best finish of eighth at Indianapolis. It's also Swindell's best career finish. "They're trying to find somebody full-time for next year and move some different guys in the car and decided to use me," Swindell said on Sunday night when reached by phone. He confirmed he will drive the car the next two weeks. Swindell has never made a Sprint Cup Series start and has just 16 career NNS starts over the past four years.(Popular Speed)(9-16-2013)

I like Kevin Swindell but if Swan Racing ends up putting him in the #30 car full time next year there will not be a Swan Racing in 2015. If they want to put him in a few races next year, he should do fine, but a lack of experience will prove to not end well in a full time season.

Ohhhhhhh Shit.

UPDATE:The 2014 Sprint Cup schedule is being debated behind closed doors, and some quite interesting twists appear on the table at the moment. Just a few weeks ago it looked like NASCAR didn't plan any major, or even minor, changes for 2014. Now, however, word is things have, for some reason, changed. What NASCAR eventually does with next year's Cup calendar seems up for review, with few sacred cows. Don't make any hotel reservations, but here are some possible moves:
-- Homestead might lose its spot as the season finale;
-- Phoenix might gain the final spot on the 2014 tour;
-- Sonoma could earn a spot in the playoffs, adding a California stop to the chase;
-- Road America, that picturesque road course at Elkhart Lake, Wis., an hour north of Milwaukee, could get a slot in the 2014 Cup schedule (even though NASCAR's Brian France earlier this year said he planned no new tracks on the tour next season);
-- how to fit a new track in the schedule? Dover could lose its late spring Cup weekend (keeping its early fall Cup date, in the chase), track boss Denis McGlynn, not unaccustomed to such speculation, would surely fight hard to keep both;
-- and -- hold your horses -- Darlington might even get its traditional Labor Day weekend Southern 500 back;
-- to fill that Mother's Day Saturday night slot, maybe a swap with Atlanta;
Of course after all this debate NASCAR might simply decide not to make any changes for 2014

Inb4 NASCAR doesn't make any changes, and we're left with the same old schedule, with the same boring tracks.

This schedule might actually have some legs on it as the schedule announcement is really late this year. I don't know why they would wait till September/October to announce that nothing's changed.
