Wonder what health issues, anyway Norris is a good replacement.

Nice excuse Osborne. I mean come on, he's low in the standings. He isn't stepping down due to health issues, it's most likely because they're doing poorly and aren't even in the Chase...

I dont think a health issue is an "excuse".PKligBKFan wrote:Nice excuse Osborne. I mean come on, he's low in the standings. He isn't stepping down due to health issues, it's most likely because they're doing poorly and aren't even in the Chase...
From Jayski:
Bob Osborne is transitioning away from his role as crew chief of the #99 Fastenal Sprint Cup team at Roush Fenway Racing, team owner Jack Roush announced today. Roush Fenway veteran Chad Norris will be the crew chief for the #99 effective immediately. Osborne will remain with the organization as a senior member of the organization's management team and steering committee. "I have had the pleasure of working with Carl Edwards for the past nine years and, during that time, my focus has been building a championship-caliber program," Osborne said. "I'm proud of the 18 wins we've had together in Sprint Cup Series competition and our two second-place points finishes. At this time in my life, however, concerns with my health have necessitated that I change my role within the organization. This transition is not an easy one, but I'm thankful to have the full support of Jack, Carl and the entire organization. I also have every confidence in Chad Norris, and I look forward to working with him as we continue to pursue a championship in 2012. I also appreciate the privacy and respect that the community will give me and my family during this difficult time."(RFR), see full post on my #99 Team News and Links page.(7-17-2012)

Shame to see him leave, as he once put Edwards in a battle for the Championship.

So he nearly wins the title, twice, has one poor season, and gives it up because of the poor season alone? On what planet does that make sense?PKligBKFan wrote:Nice excuse Osborne. The planet where the same thing happened with Mike Ford... Remember who the owner is. Jack Roush who is extremely picky.

Mike didn't step down, Mike was replaced. And Jack is picky, but he also knows the team almost won the title last year.PKligBKFan wrote:Blake Camphausen wrote:So he nearly wins the title, twice, has one poor season, and gives it up because of the poor season alone? Well those are just my thoughts. If it comes out that Bob actually does have some sort of illness, I wish him the best but I'm just not buying it.

I think you're just reading way too much into it, to be honest. They've been championship contenders almost every year, and came within a hair's breadth of winning it last year. The man's a professional, so I can't think of any reason on God's green Earth that he would be backing out due to one year of bad luck. And even if he were, why would he still be with the organization? If he were leaving due to performance, don't you think he'd want to go somewhere that would give him a better chance?

Re: Bob Osborne steps down from #99 crew chief
I think what is funny about this is Bob has been replaced before in '06. And Carl sucked that year missing the Chase and not winning a single race and this was after winning 4 races and finishing in a tie for 2nd in '05.
When Bob returned in '07, the team instantly turned around. Carl broke his winless drought at Michigan and everything seem fine.
So, I'm interested to see what happens now.

I honestly did not see this coming. It seems like a weird excuse of why Bob Osbourne's leaving the #99 team. I hope Carl Edwards gets a crew chief that's just as good, if not, better than Osbourne.

So you know who Bob Osborne is in person? Maybe he does have an illness.

If Osborne had had a bunch of mediocre years with Edwards I might buy that, but I don't.

3 wins in the last three and a half years is kinda mediocre.

Finishing in a flat-footed tie for the points crown last season (and losing it on a tie-breaker), on the other hand, is not.
