Is this a good idea or not? To me, F1 is as safe as it needs to be right now.

I'm all for it. You can't protect the drivers enough.

I'm sure Felipe Massa would disagree with you.

IMO, any step towards additional safety is a good thing. Even if they don't implement anything they've tested, they might hit on something else that can be done. I'd much prefer this approach to the "sitting and waiting for someone to die" approach that motorsport has always had

Though it would be weird seeing cars with a big roll hoop in front of the driver

As long as it doesn't detract from the racing, I say go for it.

The cars can't get any uglier, better for safety than beauty, although I miss the reckless early 90s F1 cars, beautiful and took true skill..

Fixed. Smile

I'm interested to see how the new front roll hoops look on the cars.

But no, you only saw that in the rise of Schumacher and Benetton.

Nigel Mansell. 1992. And that was just the end result. Active suspension was around for a decade by then.

Back on topic, I'm glad to see that steps are being taken to further improve driver safety - nobody wants a repeat of what happened to Henry Surtees. I'm not sure if the front roll hoop will be the answer the FIA is looking for, but it's encouraging to see that they're at least trying something.
