Look like Almirola just lost it getting it down to the apron. Simple mistake.

The 13 car of Casey Mears leads a lap. That's a bit unlucky for the other drivers.

This would be a great time to restart in the back of the pack with this caution coming up.

Cannot defend Allmendinger for that one, I like him but that wasn't even close.

Waltrip needs to retire and brilliant ARCA brakes by Richardson.

At least the Kenseth-Biffle tandem didn't win again.

It's nice seeing a class act like Keselowski being able to do in the Blue Deuce what Rusty could seem to NEVER do (if you want to throw aside the 1998 Bud Shootout victory) on the restrictor plate tracks

Kahne's second top five in a row, third top ten. He moves into 19th in points (+4), while his teammate, Jeff Gordon, falls to 23rd (-6). Kahne was the biggest gainer of the week, while Gordon dropped the most (I THINK). Also, Truex has lost five spots in points in the last two weeks; not good.

Also, would you rather run a half-decent car in the teens in Nationwide or run an S&P in Cup, where you would make 2x, 3x, 4x the money, and keeping your name in there, like Cassil did (someone else mentioned it). You gotta think. Wise had little to no options. He could only race in Nationwide, running a TMG Parkmobile half the races and a mid-pack TMG car the other half, or he could do that PLUS run a FRM Parkmobile in the Cup, all the while making that much more money.

The money may be nice, but I'd rather be able to run the entire distance. It's not so much about the money as it is the integrity of being an actual racer instead of a parker. Being content to ride around for 5 laps then pull it into the garage and take last place money doesn't make you a racer. It makes you a joke.

What he said. Plus, if you can get good results from running that half decent car, you could earn yourself a better ride.

Re: 2012 Aaron's 499 - NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

Post by day500champ1 on Mon May 07, 2012 2:29 am

I actually have a few things to say about today's race.

First, congrats to Brad. I thought Kyle was going to pull the slingshot on him, but Brad found a way to break the tango up right at the end.

Second, the Roush teams (love 'em or hate 'em) have got the plate package figured out right now. And it's no different than when DEI was a constant threat at these tracks. Once a team perfects the package; they are going to be good if not win a couple before the package is changed.

Third and finally, NO one was going to catch Brad and Kyle with the lead they had. That being said, those Jr. fans need to get over the fact that Ragan didn't do what THEY wanted him too. Jr. has shown that he has speed this year and most importantly that he can finish races. Unfortunately, I think he's in a position a lot like Gordon was in 2010. Fast and close to the front, but circumstances don't work out. It will be just a matter of time (won't be surprised if he wins one before Daytona in July).

Post by BWardboy88 on Mon May 07, 2012 4:02 am

tbh, yesterday's Aaron's 499 at Talladega actually was one of the best races of the season so far. I think some fans were a bit unlucky that they would predict that Dale Eanhardt Jr. could finally break his winless streak, but at least he got another top 10. And the fact that 2 big ones within the last 46 laps I think, as by lap 142, when the first big one struck, there had only been one caution so far in the race.

It was actually a good race, close pack racing with no cautions. F***ing sucks that Ambrose lost 8 spots in the last 2 laps (Fuggin McMurray). Oh well. off to Darlington, one of the few tracks left that requite more talent than anything else. It's also going to be crazy because it's the last race before the All-Star race.

I know because I seem to be very obsessed over Talladega and Dale Jr., considering I went to year's Aaron's 499 although it weren't completely exciting. Mostly because of the old 2-car tango drafting system that is thankfully gone from NASCAR, but the finish changed the race's fate.

As long as the cars are built they way they are and it continues to be the faster than a pack, this is will disappear. It will always show up at the end like yesterday. But, because Brad showed that the guy leading can avoid getting slingshot, it's going to make the finish more interesting.
